Bought a new batch of brass and am looking for direction on load recipe.
for starters the old
Fed brass weighed 178.3 empty and holds 3.60cc of H2O
the new
Win brass weighed 158 empty and holds 3.65 of H2O

The old data was 44.3g of Varget pushing a 175SMK fired by a CCi lr, no pressure signs chrono was not believable. Data from 100yd zero and a 12 inch drop at 300yds tells me just above 2800fps mv (yes seems pretty fast! don't know if it true) 1000 elevation at about 45F 24 inch barrel.

I know the Law start low and work up... Yes Sir will do.
should I load 44 and see pressure or go down to 43.5?
Thanks
T

I don't do anything different with my loads for new brass, unless I'm fireforming brass for a wildcat. Only your rifle will tell you what is a safe load. I'd look for something similar to what you are using in the link below and as you said start low and work up.

From my personal experience with the two, I can say:

Winny Brass:
44.5 Varget topped with a 175 SMK wa good to go, no pressure signs at all.

Fed Brass:
Started with 44.5 Varget topped with 175 SMK gave me significant pressure signs, now loading it at 42.5 Varget and still getting the same dope as the Winny load out to 800.

Re: new brass load data? 308 Fed brass to Win brass

If you're 44.3 in fed you will probably have to load to 45 in win.

edit: as a side note I would fire-form them with light loads and then load hotter. I ruined a bunch of new win brass by loading it to 44.6 (my max load) all the primer pockets were shot. However my 1X fired brass at a light 42grains is fine at 44.6. YMMV

Re: new brass load data? 308 Fed brass to Win brass

Do not interpolate anything. Rework your load up all over again!
No short cuts! Sorry, anyone that infers there is full of fecal matter! Any prudent reloader does a proper load work up.
And, 44.5 of Varget in Fed Case with 175SMK is pretty poor reloader....go check the Sierra Manaul it uses Federal Brass and check Hodgdon for WW brass data of Varget!
