Well there is one line that is a half truth:

It used to be that the man would walk on the inside because people used to empty the bedpans out the window. Therefore the man would rather be hit with the contents than the woman.

Nowadays, since the invention and acceptance of indoor plumbing it is more common for a man to walk on the outside to protect the woman.

So like I said, it's a half truth.
