My neighbor has a BMW cycle, and he galled the hell out of the exhaust nut threads. Aluminum nut, aluminum head fitting, holds the exhaust pipe into the head--evidently a common problem with BMWs. So I went down and cleaned up the threads with my carbide checkering tool, coated the fitting with Lyman Moly Bore paste, and the sucker went on nicely.

Aluminum exhaust studs/nuts on a Beemer K bike or an R bike's oil/hex head????

Just for general information, they make a "thread file" for metric & US threads. 8 different sizes per "file" Not something you'd use for gunsmithing but they should be standard issue in every mechanics tool box. Inexpensive too.

The aluminum finned fitting/nut is almost the size of a 2" NPT, and the metric thread gauge measured 14, but god knows where to get a metric restorer file around uptown Bearsville NY.

Check with your local fastener supply shop. Even in this dinky town I'm in the local Fastenal has all the thread chasing files you could ever need.

I would also recommend the Thread Files they have saved me a lot of work in the past well worth the money.
