I would NEVER suggest such a thing. I think that there is a fundamental failure of people, in general, to accept responsibility for certain actions. It always seems to be easier to kick a can down the road, and scream loudly about why there is no blame to be had. ("look, they did it, too" is the most common argument)
Prime example: it would be easy to admit that slavery was an epic fuck-up, if for no other reason, than the fallout that we have to deal with today. (and heaven forbid that we admit that enslaving humanity, in general, is messed up)
