What is the proper way to use your sling? The rifle is a r700 300wm in a w3. It weighs 13 pounds. The mission is to carry the rifle from point a to point b. Would you carry it slung over your shoulder or across your chest?

How far apart are A and B

For longer treks A lot of guys use the biathlon sling

A to b, couple of miles. The biathlon sling looks like a pain for quick access. TAB has their PRS for patrol carry. Would you want to carry your super snipery rifle like that?

OP it really depends on a bunch of things like what are you doing in what kind of terrain with what kind of gear? Bialthalon sling (watch the sport) wont hinder a reasonable trasnition to shooting. But if you a re carrying a ruck on your back you need compete for real estate on your back. Rilfles only makes some nice slings, check them out...
