Redding 2400 Case Trimmer (Do you use one)

This is the only trimmer that turns the case as if you were doing work on a lathe. It also offers a micrometer adjustment.

I realize that it is very expensive when compared to others but a few extra dollars for a trimmer like this is not much compared to all the money spent after years of reloading.

If you have used or own one would you please comment?

I have one and, were I doing it over, I wouldn't buy one. The reasons:

1. Mine came absent a screw. Since I never had one before, I wasn't aware of an absent screw. Redding finally came through with the proper screw which helped.

2. The adjustment tends to slip so you have to check periodically so you don't end up trimming bunches of cases with an improper length.

3. The cutter heads are quite expensive; last I checked about $18 each. I ruined one after trimming just a few nickel plated 308 Winchester cases.

Before I got the Redding unit, I had a less expensive one; a Forster I believe. I trimmed hundreds of cases including nickel plated cases with that one with nary a problem and should never have sold it.

The one thing good about the Redding cutter is that if you trim a case and it's say 0.003 too long and you make the appropriate adjustment on the micrometer, the next case you trim will be right on.

Before you tie up a lot of money in a trimmer, you may already have one of the best in tour shop now. I trim a lot and I mean many cases and neeed to speed the grunt work. I use an RCBS three way tool in a shop made adapter chucked up in a benchtop drill press. The cases are held by a Sinclair universal caseholder/power driver, chucked in an extra drillchuck of which is mounted to the drill press table. Already have micrometer adjustment built into the press with speed being unequaled. I have trimmed many thousands with this set up and if you already have a small drill press I think this is the best way to go for trimming. I have owned several styles and have found this to suit me the best by far.
