Gunsmithing Rem 740 woodsmaster 30-06 Questions

I have this old gun, really nice condition for something made in 54. Anyone know if a 742/7400 barrel will work on a 740? Is there major smithing required to swap?

I have seen 270 and 280 barrels pretty cheep, $70 or so

I know the 7400 won't, but the 740 will.

My gun is the 740, so did you mean a 7400 barrel won't work but a 742 would?

I actually had that page bookmarked, read it a few times. SOmething about the text, I have a hard time reading it, makes my eyes hurt. ANd I cannot tell if it says any of those models have barrels in common.

Oops, too much turkey and good time. Yes I meant to say the 7400 won't work but the 742 will. The 7400 is a totally different animal.
