Anybody have a good starting load for the 700P in .308? I have the following components: Lapua Brass, Berger 168gn BTHP, Hornady 168gn Match BTHP, CCI BR Primers, IMR 4350 or Varget powder. COAL is limited to 2.86. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Look in the 308 section in the Reloading Depot. Lots of good info there.

IMR4350 is too slow for 308. Varget is a good choice though I can't help with that powder. I developed my 308 loads when Varget was rarer than unicorn dust. I use IMR4064, RL15, and either of the 4895 powders. I have been playing with AR Comp recently.

Either bullet. The charge does not change when the bullet weight stays the same.

43.5? Berger’s manual says max load is 42.5. Just making sure the 43.5 is still safe shooting the 168gr. Berger hybrids.

Eh most of my loads for the 168 vld were really stout, like 45-46 grains of varget make em go fast...

43 sounds like a good place to start with say 2.83 COAL

For factory 308 rifles I really like sierra 175smk, you can load them at 2.8" and they seem to shoot well out of everything

I was running 178’s in Lapua brass with 210M primers. Extremely accurate load was 43.6-43.8gr depending on the lot, seated at 2.827 iirc
