I thought that I would start a thread on reproduction of covert weapons. First off is the Delisle Carbine. Here's a few videos on the suppressed .45 ACP carbine.

If you opted to buy one you may be surprised that it isn't as quiet as some modern suppressed weapons. It's still a fascinating carbine regardless of that.

More information on the DeLisle carbine:

There's a big price difference between the US Armament reproduction and the Valkyrie version.

It looks like someone wants to recreate the WWII Welrod pistol. I think that's very interesting but they are only taking preorders for the .32 ACP version which doesn't excite me as much as the reproduction of the Delisle Carbine.

For those that haven't heard of the Welrod, here's a few videos.

I don't think anyone has recreated the sleeve gun yet; at least not mass producing it for retail sales through an SOT. Anyway, the video below is provided for everyone's perusal.

@sirhrmechanic didnt you make a delisle?

Still waiting on paperwork. Those are pretty straightforward, but there is some debate as to whether they require 1 or 2 forms (SBR and Suppressor). So down that rabbit hole.

The covert weapons that folks are mostly talking about are things that are disguised. Lighters, Bolts, Padlocks, Pens even canes. If they look like everyday items but shoot, then they are 'covert..' They MAY fall under Any Other Weapons (AOW). But may or may not get approved. I honestly don't know.

We talked about it a bit with BuffaloWinter's Glove gun. But the reality with that is it's not a gun disguised as a glove. It is a pistol attached to a glove and it looks like... a pistol. A goofy pistol. But a pistol nontheless. So it is not a gun disguised as a glove. And falls under the category of you want one... build it! Same would apply to, say, the old "Lemon Squeezer" pistols that are like a hockey puck with a barrel. It's not trying to look like a hockey puck. It's a gun in an odd but historically-proven shape.

And, DeLisle's are now also in production by a company here in the U.S. About $5k and that is good because it is setting a precedent.

But like the Welrod or the Deer Gun or the Liberator... these are guns used by covert or special forces. They are quiet (some of them) and suitable for covert operations.

But are not falling under the definition of 'covert weapons' by the ATF, I don't think. They are traditional special-purpose firearms. But not covert.

BTW, the rules do not, IIRC, apply to muzzle-loading arms. So a cane gun that loads from the muzzle and fires with a percussion cap (including 209 primer) would NOT be considered NFA or some kind of disguised weapon. Local laws will vary. NY State has really screwed-over Muzzle-loaders and antiques recently. Considering them to be modern firearms in contradiction of Federal laws.

Hope this helps. And, yes, DeLisles and Welrods are both really cool to shoot! But they have relatively limited applcations beyond being cool. Which is enough! Building them is the 'challenge' But on hold until we get paperwork to the point that they can be finished.

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

My Cotton Branch Deslile is pretty damn quiet. I am sure I could shave off a few decibels by making a modern bafflestack, but for my casual plinking and LARP-ing, it is fine.

Pretty damn accurate as an added bonus. Hitting a 12 inch plate at 300 yards more than 75% of the time was very doable. 230gn Coated lead with Titegroup. If you look at the rear sight in pic #3, you will see how much elevation it took to connect at 300.

And it gave me something to do with that old Enfield that I don't know how I ended up with.

Someone mentioned cane guns earlier. I couldn't find anyone making anyone making a black powder muzzle loading recreation.

However, this company is making a CO2 powered cane gun. Even though it's an air gun, I still would not want to get shot by it.

It's not a gun but I always wanted a cane like this.

Here's a muzzle loading cane gun.
