Rifle Scopes Savage 10 BAT/S Scope Question

Thanks to impulsive purchasing tendencies, I am a proud owner of a Savage BAT/S .308 sniper rifle. With a 24" fluted heavy barrel, complete free float, canted muzzle brake, and accu-trigger, this fine lady should prove to be quite the shooter.

Today, I checked out a Leupold MK IV scope with a mil-dot reticle from the armory. The reviews that I have read regarding this scope are promising, but I am hoping to get a little more information from those who have experience with this scope, especially if anyone has this scope mounted on the same weapon system. Though I am a firearms instructor for the federal government, I mainly teach pistol, shotgun, rifle (M4), and tactics (room clearing, bounding overwatch, etc). I am not a sniper, yet.

That being said, I would like to know if the scope that I am preparing to install is a good choice, what range would be ideal for sight in, and if utilizing that variable zoom will throw off the zero at all. Any other information or tips that come to mind would also be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Re: Savage 10 BAT/S Scope Question

look at it this way... when people ask "what scope should i get for X$$".... i never hear mk4...

1st thing .. what distances do u plane to shoot?...
2nd what is your price range u need to stay in?

Re: Savage 10 BAT/S Scope Question

I am aware that better optics are out there... but free is pretty hard to beat.

Thanks to Uncle Sam, I am waiting for some reimbursement $$$ to come in right now (quite late...), but I am willing to spend up to $2,500 or so on some good glass, especially to put on this particular weapon. Given it's build, it should be able to reach out and touch something at 1,000 yds, and that is exactly what I would like to see.

Re: Savage 10 BAT/S Scope Question

So, I dialed her in at 100 yds for now with the Leupold sitting atop and was blown away with how accurate this weapon is. In fact, with little effort I manage to fire two consecutive rounds through exactly the same hole... not a double up, EXACTLY the same hole. I was impressed to say the least. This is the first weapon that I have ever owned that can do that more than once. So... here comes the question:

What range should this weapon be sighted in at? 200 yds? 3?
