Since the build thread evidently has gone to the great interwebs in the sky, could somebody please share what the original specs were for the Sniper's Hide "Ghost Dancer" Savage build?
I think I've been able to find that they were Savage 10FP actions, McMillan stocks, SSS triggers, and Lothar Walther barrels but just want to confirm.
Thanks! </div></div>
Hi BoilerUP,
I am the gunsmith that worked those guns over and have since rebarreled my sons in 6BRX. I also still have the original 260 barrel and I can tell you they were built with stock Savage barrels that I hand lapped and not Lothar Walther barrels (I believe Frank changed his later on). The idea behind the project was that Savage was phasing out their 260 and Greg wanted to show them it was a worthy caliber for long range shooting.
I am sure Greg Langelius will jump in sometime but the three guns were one to Frank (Lowlight), one to Danny (my son - RIP), and one was Greg's.
Greg took care of all the contacting and collecting of parts, I trued the actions/lapped the barrels/recrowned/smoothed the bolt lift, changed triggers, etc.. and Danny worked the load and sight-in so we could meet Frank at the Spirit of America Match in Raton NM.
I know I have the original write up that Greg did on the project someplace but I can't put my hands on it to save my life right now.
