So... I need one like I need a hole in the head... But... opinions?

Just got an email from GB saying that my Gold Member package has finally shipped! Can't wait for that fucking $50 green beer coozie!!! And these showed up at my FFL today:

Much better packaging than mine.... Which I still have not picked up. Waiting for my c-prefix 700 to show up so I only have to pay one transfer fee. ;-) Damn I'm a cheap-o

Next week... next week.

Looks like a nice set 0331!!! Yours have a lot less slide wear (cosmetically) than mine. But I think that's proof that I have a schoolhouse gun that got shot a lot. The field guns show wear, but not the wear of a gun fired every day on the training range.

I think that is another indication that the blue mark is a schoolhouse gun.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Sir,

The GB package does not include a sole cozy, it s actually two coozies. One for bottle, one for can.

You also get post it notes, which my daughter enjoyed, shooting glasses, a shooting glass bag, stickers, a patch and a tool shipped all the way from "China" (imagine it said in a Trumpian voice).

I got mine a few days ago. They must take care of the big buyers first......oh never mind.

Gunbrokers going to be hard pressed to ever replicate this little Gold mine the bungled into.

Damn, wish you got some consecutives for the old man to photo up.

I picked it up today, in fact! Along with the C-prefix Remington 700 Long Action with magnum Bolt Face... that will make up a Mk13!

Played with it a bit. The funnies thing is that the first time I dry-fired it, a big puff of dust came shooting out around the hammer. Classic. Before I put any rounds through it, I'm stripping it down and cleaning it.

I think I threw out my whole swag kit except the 'tool' which I put in my truck console. I don't even think I kept the hat because it.... sucked. And who holds a beer long enough to need a coozy? By the time it's warm... it's gone. Just 'sayin.

But this pistol on Gold Deals... paid for the whole Swag kit!! So "WInning!"

Cheers,

Sirhr

I did the same thing, shit canned everything except for the gun tool! With the prices these pistols are going for on GB, I'm more than happy to kick them the extra fiddy bucks for Gold membership! Funny how that $50 was somehow a major factor for some buyers; the 1911 and Colt forums are full of butthurt misers that missed out. Hindsight is definitely 20/20 on the best gun deal of the year (or possibly even decade)!

That's funny as because of this thread I got all excited and took my "worked over" .45 out to the range (been a while) and noted I didn't remember .45's kicking this hard. I was shooting hot 185 loads though....;):D

Other than this in .45 own two Commanders and an M&P so my point of reference is a lighter gun. This gun has two recoil springs, a regular outer with a thinner inner, that I guess might have an effect on recoil but I think the weight of the added stainless steel of the full size slide and pictinny lug just makes the gun feel tamer.

I really like the Commander in this thread....

I may have to look at buying another gun........

Noting it's only half erect and has small balls, this is clearly a jarheads pistol.

I would have gotten my ass smoked for an hour for some shit like that. This made me actually laugh out loud this morning.

Could perhaps have priapism. Looks like the bend makes it shoot right.

I'm pretty sure this was one of "those" pistols sent to the Air Force as they have a plan to start a super-secret unit...and take a bunch more money out of the kitty to get it done. I almost spit coffee on the keyboard this morning when I saw that.:p ...Almost.

But that is some funny shit! I can just picture all the shit hitting the fan when that gets seen by someone who will do something about it. "Lance Corporal! Does it help you aim better by drawing a penis on your weapon??? ...." Or, better yet, this was the shitstain that pissed his platoon off and it was a backatcha. Maybe he got a medal or something for doing nothing? It would be funny to know the story behind this

Speaking of super secret Air Force units......

While working Embassy Duty we had a kid on post in Moscow claiming to other Marines that while at his old duty station he worked with the Air Force at sea on their secret aircraft carrier. He was security on this secret ship. Kid also got caught wearing stars or something minor for ribbons he didn't rate. For the life of me I couldn't figure with that sort of imagination why he was allowed to stay in that duty.

Made for good fun though because we used to draw shit on the back of each other's post name cards giving each other shit. His quickly filled with drawings of aircraft carriers with AF roundels and all sorts of funny insults. His was the only card that got completely whited out on back so that we could start fresh giving him shit.

I know a guy who was in the AF who served on a ship. Doing the SALT II monitoring. He was a computer geek way back when. For what ever reason (politics), it was the AF that got the job of doing the monitoring. So, THEY owned the ship. The ship was manned by Navy personnel, though. Cause no one in the AF can actually sail a ship. But, it weren't no aircraft carrier. It was a transport/supply type something or other that was like the Pueblo. Converted to hold shitloads of electronics. He works for one of the Haliburton companies now. He lives in N. ID and goes to Den for three weeks at a time. Comes home for two.
It always drove me nuts that during my time in, everything we interfaced with the AF got taken over by the AF. We used to call in our own CAS. We shut 'em down though when they said they'd do ALL the CAS. We kept working with the Marines and Navy on CAS. They didn't like that. They also took over GC on the jumps. They had CCT's and they had to be there for any jump. I mean we've only done this since WWII... It surprises me the AF doesn't have their own special M45 made up. Then again, if they've moved on, the rest of us will just have to remain behind without the extra special toys.

The AF is already pretty high speed these days with their Tiger Stripe BDUs.

So's you can't see 'em when they run in front of a plane and get sucked into the engines. Two of the biggests wastes of taxpayer dollars is Navy "blue" cammies ('cause no one going overboard will ever be found) and AF "Tiger Stripes"....Like you need not to be seen on a flightline??

Two buck chuck.... I have a $10 rule. No bottle of wine that costs more than $10. If it sucks, I pour it out and open another.

I've never found one that sucks.

Besides, you read this in the morning. At that hour, I was already working and not drinking red wine. Well, technically, I was drinking bourbon. Er... I mean... Coffee.

But color me snobby. It's not like my profile doesn't say I am a denizen of the House of Snobifery. Hell, I probably have a Bentley..

Cheers,

Sirhr

So now Im in a holster hunt for this gun. Yes I plan on shooting it, already have, and may take it on a class or two. It will likely be my field gun when I am on private property and can open carry. For regular carry Ill still go with my Commanders.

First holster option is Garrett Industry Silent Thunder. Leather lined so i dont harm that fragile cerakote that was the reason for this whole deal being available to us. I use one of these for my Commander and its the most comfortable/serviceable holster I own. Nice and easy on vintage bluing. Ill opt for regular belt loops not a paddle...

Next Im liking the looks of First Spears offering.....

Garrett doesnt make a Silent Thunder for a gun and light so maybe one of each. Silent Thunder when without the light and this First Spear for when lit...

Any other options out there? Anyone had experience with First Spear?

Safariland makes the issue holster. I have similar for work and its all right but a bit big and duty like for my tastes. I dont see myself needing a drop. If a class requires a plate or vest Ill have to consider that. The Garrett has a backing option that will allow enough drop to get below a vest.

Huh, just checked my mail..looks like Surefire is coming out with a holster that doesn't even touch the guns finish. It indexes off the weapon light.

http://www.surefire.com/masterfire-t...m_medium=email

but won't that scratch my light? Hopefully the Marines buy them than we can buy their issue, scratched up X300's.

Perhaps 0331 will get the Fleshlight version to match the Pew, Pew pistol.

I won't stop carrying my GCNM (with checkered elephant ivories just to piss off the fruitbats) in a simple slide holster.

And this gun will fit fine for range play.

Later this weekend, I'll post my 1911 menagerie.

I'll shoot this, but not carry it. I'll keep carrying my GCNM.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Ive seen pics of your GCNM, very nice....

Looking forward to that 1911b photo thread.....always looking for reasons to post gun pictures.

Amazing what a little gun porn entices people to show......

I hope we haven't scared sirhr off by suggesting a "different kind of pouch" for his gun. This thread is now four pages long and it wouldn't be right if you didn't post some pics here of a target. With of course holes created by your new gun.

FWIW, I like red wine as well. I'll go up to $25 a bottle if I'm buying, depending on the occasion. A friend of mine who was a press photographer at the Reno Air Races, and part owner of a Napa vineyard, gave me a bottle from that vineyard. Diamond Creek was the brand. I forget what specific kind it was. But, it was good! I would never pay what the bottle cost in a store though. Back then it was just under $100. That's a li'l too snooty for me. I'm mostly like you. I wouldn't normally spend more than $10.

Scared off.... like hell!

And, yes, I've had some hella 'spensive bottles of wine. And they can be yummy. When I was motorcycling in Burgandy last fall, I was downing bottles that were about 10 Euros there... that would have been $120 in a restaurant here. It was extra yummy!

As for the target... it's been a monsoon here. And I haven't been shooting since I went out Thursday to teach a bunch of 4H'ers (my newest entertainment) how to shoot .22's. No time to shoot .45's at the time.

But give me some time.... I'll get a target. I want to compare to my Gold Cup.

Cheers,

Sirhr

So, you are considering a different kind of pouch for your gun:eek:...;). I've had the giggles for two days over this thread.

What got me into drinking wine was going to Germany in '83. One of the tours we went on was the Rheinfest. With the 3.65-1 Deutschmark to Dollar, we could buy a lot. It worked out about $0.33 for a bottle. From there it just progressed. I pride myself now on finding a good up-and-coming wine before they price themselves out of my market. I just had to razz you about the wine..'Cause you got a cool new pistol and I didn't:confused:. Ha ha:D

Buffalo,
What kind of goats are those? We used to have a guy posting on here that shot something looking like that called an aoudad.

Those are Spanish Barbados Sheep...yes, they are closely related to the Aoudad. The large Ram in the center is our herd sire, Bobby Hill. Animals are fascinating. Bobby will go off with a pregnant ewe and protect her all through the birthing process. We have had him since he was a kid. People pay a ridiculous amount of money to hunt these things on the large Game Ranches here in Texas.

Range report... informal, at least.

Mine is dead-nuts accurate. Hits a bit high. 25 yards. 6 x 6 ceramic tiles which make great targets. First round went right over the top of the first tile. By about 2 inches. Rest went dead nuts on.

Not sure that there was 'reduced' felt recoil. But it was a really smooth-shooting 1911. And every round went right where it was supposed to... Right on.

Very crisp trigger. Great sights. Smooth and no malfunctions at all.

These are great pistols!

Cheers,

Sirhr
