- The shooting: At around 9:30 p.m., a suspect in a boat opened fire on patrons at the American Fish Company, an outdoor bar located at the Southport Yacht Basin.
- Arrest: Following the shooting, the U.S. Coast Guard located and detained a person matching the suspect's description at a public boat ramp on nearby Oak Island. The suspect was then handed over to the Southport Police Department.
- Charges: Edge has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held without bond.
- Military service: Edge, whose original name was Sean DeBevoise, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq in 2006, where he sustained traumatic injuries, including a head wound.

- Name change: DeBevoise legally changed his name to Nigel Max Edge in 2023.
