So we built a rifle for him.
SSG Hood (Diver95B) and I were stationed in Korea at Camp Page together for our first duty stations. I became his Team Leader in 4th Platoon, 55th MPCO. I did my year and was assigned to Fort Stewart’s 3rd ID. Diver95B did a second tour in Korea and was also assigned to the same Fort. At Stewart, he was the on-duty Desk Sergeant and I worked Traffic Accident Investigations over many long 12 hour night shifts. I ended my 5 years and he stayed in. We lost touch like soldiers often do once they rotate back to the real world. About a year ago we got back in contact again through Snipers Hide of all places. We still shared the same interest in long range rifle marksmanship. He had been on his second tour of Iraq when I and a few others started working on a new rifle build for him. He came to Dallas this week and got to break his new rifle in.
Rifle specs as follows:
Surgeon Action chambered in .308 Win
Mike Rock 5R Barrel
AICS 2.0
T2K Brake and Spirit Level
Jewell Trigger set to 14oz
Badger Rings
Night Force 5.5-22X50 MLR
Thursday was spent learning how to reload and produce test rounds for his rifle.
On Friday we conducted the Field Load Development Course and found several loads his rifle liked. We shot several sub-1/4 MOA five round groups. Steve Lamphear did a phenomenal job building this stick. It is unbelievably accurate.
On Saturday he received instruction on wind reading and dialing for dope. Within 3 rounds he was taking head shots at 600 yards on the steel.
Dirk and John showed up to shoot with us.
Slung up in the TAB loop sling engaging steel at 300 yards
Use of the TAB sling
USAammo provided a case of 5.56 for SSG Hood.
I would like to give a HUGE thanks for all the sponsors who contributed to this build:
