Alright guys, well ive had a R700 long range sitting in my safe for awhile collecting dust. I decided to go ahead and make it into a project gun, as i was thinking of setting the barreled action into a new stock anyways. So basically i took the factory B&C stock, cut it up, textured it, and repainted the whole deal. Let me know what you guys think.

Before all hell broke loose:

I pretty much cut the large chunks out of the grip/comb with a hacksaw, and finished it up with a dremel.

Then came time for the epoxy

Nicely done. I have a couple B&C stocks that I do not mind cutting/grinding/practicing on. They are cheap, and continue to work. I'm convinced that a stock does not mean everything when it comes to impacts, so hack away and make it what you like! Thanks for the share

I'd like to repaint mine. What's the best way to remove all the factory epoxy paint?

Holy cow man that's awesome!! What did you use for texture? I'm looking seriously at the m40s stock for my Savage and it sounds like the cheek Weld may be insufficient based on you wanting a riser? Do you like it otherwise?

I used JB Weld for the texture and yes, it needs some sort of riser. I do have a stock pack that i had previously used and just built up the comb with some sleeping pad material and 100mph tape. But a kydex riser would be more permanent/durable which i am adding next. Overall it is a decent stock, especially after bedding it. It came with the gun originally, but it i were looking to buy a stock, i would be looking for something with more options/adjustments without having to modify it.

Love the texture. took some time to do all that I am sure.

may I ask what technique you used to get the texture? sponge or something similar? awesome job sir.

What is the bottom magazine system used for your build? I considered the direct DBL?DBM replacements from Wyatte or PT&G, but did not want 10" of magazine hanging out from under my stock (30-06 10-rounder). Mine is a 700 Long Range as well.

That turned out pretty good. This gives me some ideas for a rimfire stock that I've been wanting to chop up for a long time.

sorry for getting back to you so late, on deployment so havent had much time to read through this post in a while. Its a magpul polymer long action bottom metal. Surprisingly, it was a direct fit (standard BDL), no modifications to the stock.
