I've got a 50% off certificate and trying to decide between the 338 Ultra SR (I sent an email to Adam yesterday requesting a one in stock if they have it), but last night I was doing some homework and am now thinking about the ultra 9.

I currently shoot a 338 lapua with an awesome brake. Its loud as F and usually clears out people on the lanes next to me, but it is pretty tame recoil wise. I primarily shoot/hunt with a 6.5 creed and 28 Nosler. I am also contemplating getting rid of the 338 and going with the 300 norma. If I do the ultra 9 in 30 cal I can shoot most everything (including the 28 Nosler) but no 338, and it will cost me about 700 (1/2 price plus stamp). The 338 SR Ultra says to contact them for 7mm loads above 90 grains of powder (my nosler), is longer and heavier, and will cost me about 1200 (1000 plus stamp), but I could potentially shoot everything through it.

Assuming I can get a 338 SR in this first in stock round should I go with it, or should I change my order to the ultra 9 and just shoot my Lapua with a brake?
Help me pick!

In reading this it sounds like you have answered your own question. If you are getting rid of the 338, why do you need the extra size and weight of a 338 can?

Having said that, your question seems to assume you’ll own just one can. Trust me, cans are addictive.......

Ha I fell that. I've already got an omega .30 and an osprey 45 so it makes since to go with a big bore... but i'm worried ill get and prefer to shoot the lapua with the brake for recoil reduction

If overall size is your issue then go with the Ultra9. If it is performance, go with the 338 Ultra as it suppressors sub-calibers just as well (and maybe better) than the smaller silencers.

I have both the Ultra 9 and Ultra 338. I also shoot both 28 Nosler and 300 Norma. For 28 Nosler/300 Norma class cartridges, I would definitely go with the Ultra 338. It is extremely impressive with those cartridges.

Personally I would get a standard 338 Ultra instead of the SR. While undeniably badass, it is significantly more expensive due to features that I would never need.

Safety_3rd, I was in your exact situation last summer. I had the 50% certificate and ended up opting for the 338 can. The little extra size wasn't a deterrent for me. FWIW I do not own a 338, don't have anything larger than a win mag. My plan is to mostly use it on a TRG chambered in 6.5mm.

I pulled the trigger last week and ordered a 338 can. Thanks for all the input. Also wanted to give a shout out to the folks at thunderbeast; easy to get a hold of (I placed my order 1st day of shot show and still spoke to a person), and once they have you in the system they give you a link to the status of your order. ?

what is the current status of your order? Have you been assigned a serial number.

The Form 3's we are getting back now were filed in the first 10 days of Jan, due to the backlog they accumulated during the shutdown. Normally Form 3's take 1-2 days. So once they catch up and those forms are back, if your order is paid, it will ship. Our system sends automated emails if/when we need payment in full.
