On the news this AM they had a driver stopped on C470 for driving erratically on I-25 from around the Castle Rock area. The Douglas County sheriffs Dept had a couple of cars after him. No details coming out yet as to what he had actually done other than driving erratically.
I first heard it on the radio and didn't catch all the details other than the traffic reporter saying this was something he had never seen before. I thought that interesting so turned on the TV.
There it was live on TV from the news helicopter. They had a Colorado State Patrol car pulled over and were taking the CSP officer in handcuffs and putting hime in the back of a Douglas Co. car.
I'll bet this gets interesting. On TV live for all to see, they can't cover that up. Maybe if they put out some kind of explanation and then keep quiet it will blow over.
As I said, I'll bet this gets interesting.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

Could be but I would think either of those would get you a ride in an ambulance not a cuffing and ride in a patrol car. Maybe road rage? That is the route most would take to get to the CSP Academy if they were in a hurry. If he were drunk or drugged up I doubt he would head for there. Maybe a bad reaction to a prescription drug? That would still be DUID so I would think he would pull over if something like that were happening to him. Not enough facts yet, all speculation. I hope the facts come out.

If it was some kind of medical condition as that link staes that could be a bad one for him. We have all been sick some time or another during our lives and not been up to snuff. I can always tell when I am ill that something is wrong. This would then be driving with ability impaired wouldn't it?

No, not unless he knew about his conditions and lied about it, but that would even be a stretch but if they tried it would be some type of reckless nothing to do with being "impaired". Certain medical conditions could keep him from obtaining a DL but that to is hard to accomplish in most states, it's a very high hurdle to keep someone from obtaining a DL.

I came across several traffic collisions in my career were diabetic seizures or epileptic seizures were involved. Each time it was required that a DL re-evaluation be forwarded to the DMV for that driver. In each case their DL was reinstated after obtaining a doctors OK to drive. Simple as that.

That being said the reports are now that he was booked for DUI, alcohol. We shall see.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

Actually a diabetic attack can present itself exactly like a drunk. All the way down to the odor of intoxicants. We've had that one when I was on base in England. We weren't sure weather we should arrest him or admitt him to the hospital. Medics came and identified it as a diabetic attack.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

Prolly just another drunk cop. Not as uncommon as you might think in these parts.

That said, I sure hope it isn't diabetes or epilepsy or other serious medical condition.

yeah, got a friend's uncle who is a crosseyed, and considered legally blind who has a DL and get this, a handicapped plates and tag.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

It was on the noon news that he was "Tipsy"[not my words, but what was on the radio, KOA850AM, and he was under arrest for DUI and weapons related charges.] They report him to be about 46 yrs. old and did not resist arrest. They gave his name but I won't put it up here.
I think we may see here a troubled soul that may be doing a shout out. As in "Things ain't right here and I don't know what to do."
Obliviously what he did was not right but I wonder what drove him to this,[other than a CSP Patrol car].
The guy needs help and I am hoping it is forthcoming. CSP officers deal with a lot of bad shit and I don't see that the "Rank in File" are as up to it as the "Old Guard" were.
A big difference. Those Old Farts knew how to do it and Git-er-done. They were fair and knew how to handle situations. They knew when to give someone a ride home and when to not do that. They knew when to look the other way, and when a person became belligerent how to "knock a lung loose."
Now is the time of all things being PC and we lose those qualities. It sucks. Regards, FM

A seizure happens spontaneously, or with very little warning. Many conditions do.

Saving this one for later.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

The main thing is that the officer is OK and that no one was harmed.
We really don't need to know anymore than that.

/ducks

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

Hmmm, the local inbred yahoo media sure is quiet about this news story, so much so that I had to find it on the national news listings.

Geeesh, I wonder why? Maybe the family tree is actually a tree trunk?

More proof of corruption in the Denver Metro area. One big incestuous inbred family.

Re: Traffic stop in South Denver

There was a little bit about this on the late news last night. Not as much as I would have thought would be there. The news said he was headed to the Training Academy in Golden.
There are things about this that just don't add up for me.
Something stinks and/or is fishy about this.
I still have this Training Video/ Public Service Announcement [Don't Drive Drunk...We Even Arrest Our Own] thing going on in my mind.
I hope I am wrong, but things just don't add up for me.
If the officer was drunk, why would he head to the Training Academy where all of the High Brass is located? It's not that big and someone would have smelled him out.
Maybe this guy had really gone over the edge and was going up there to do some damage, as happened in Greeley a few years back at CDOT and tragedy was averted by him being stopped by Douglas Co.
I don't know. I hope they are forthcoming with the skinny. Things don't add up for me and I think something in the Mile High City is stinkin to high heaven. Regards. FM
