I was at a local range when someone came up to me and said, "I see you have one of the old Remington 2 screw receivers." I have owned the rifle since 2003 and never thought anything about it having two screws on the side of the receiver. Is this something positive or negative or completely irrelevant?

Re: Two screw Rem 700 receiver?

I'd say irrelevent. The screws where used at one time to attach certain types of open sights and maybe even a scope if memory serves.

An interesting side note. I just did some work to a brand new Remington XCR tactical rifle that had the two screw holes in it. I don't know why they would be added to a new rifle but I guess they thought it should have them.
