a little history.... I wanted to make a flight to Florida in December... however, my passport was not updated and I did not have a Pennsylvania Real ID drivers license... you need one or the other to fly, a regular picture id drivers license will not work... that was the beginning...

I look on the Pennsylvania DOT website and find that to apply for a Real ID drivers license, among other items, I need my Social Security Card.. who in the hell ever asks for that?? I only had one, from my childhood, and couldn't find it..

So, I go to the local SS office to sit in line, like the old days, in order to get a new one... It's closed to the public due to the administration COVID orders.. told that I need to fill the form out in the exterior lobby and include one photo id with my address and birth date as proof, along with the other information on the form... I have two photo ID's, my drivers license and my concealed carry permit... have to drive, so I dropped my permit in the envelope with the form and dropped it in the box for processing... the cop out front said it would be about 10 days...

30 days later, I get mail from them, and in it is my permit, but not the new SS replacement card... was told that it would come separately when I called the general SSN phone number, after waiting 40 minutes on hold... asked if I could expedite it in any way... they gave me the internal number for my local office...

I call them, and a very officious lady was on the phone, ran me through the question routine, name, ssn, address, etc... she scans my request on the computer and; "Well, you submittted a concealed carry permit as your proof of ID... we DO NOT ACCEPT THAT DOCUMENT"... after a few rounds of "tell me why?" I wind up telling her to go kiss Biden's ass and hung up...

so moral of the story... don't expect the Government to think to0 highly of your permit...

You don’t need a real ID to travel yet. That was rule was postponed until later this year.

I went by our county office to pay property taxes. If you write a check, you have to include a photo ID.. I have no clue why, since if the check bounces, they fine the tax amount on the property and will eventually seize your home and sell it.
Anyway... they accepted my concealed carry ID since my driver license was still being updated in the mail.
But this is in Texas :)

DHS runs our driver's license station and I was told by them that my CCW was not a valid ID. WTF you clowns are the ones that did the background check on me for it? They wanted an electric bill and some other stuff that is easily forged. I asked about my veterans ID card and my driver's license. Well my driver's license had expired so it wasn't any good either. Good grief

At work (PA casino) we cannot accept a CC permit for ID as it is not state or fed gov issued. They are county documents.

usual bureaucratic FU. just got a reverse mortgage. over 5 mos ended up with 2 piles of paper bigger than miami phone book. about 10x more hassle than a refi,1st or 2nd mortgage. the extent of government and corporate bureaucracy is astonishing.
