volquartsen summit action potential?

Finally got the PWS variant to 100% operation--- required barrel shims totalling .006-.007" for the Fedderson barrel, replaced the PWS firing pin, spring and extractor with Volquartsen replacement parts (what they recommend to fix PWS problems with light strikes and extraction issues). Shimming of barrel to point where there is just a little bit of feel on the bolt cam when you overcenter it to close, less than a pound of force when measured with a trigger gauge.

Put 257 rounds through it with the 1st 157 being leftover various rounds from many years that had accumulated in the bottom of the range bag. Really it was a real mixture of HV, SV, thunderturds, Federal, Winchester, Eley, Sk, CCI, Aguila and what not. I was just trying to establish functional reliability of the action. The good news is the volquartsen parts and additional barrel shimming took it from about 40% reliability to 100% for feeding, ignition and extraction. I did suffer about 22 "harder than normal to feed/close bolt" with the off brands, noticeably the federal and remington crap.

I then switched over to 100 rounds of SK+ and ALL feeding issues went away and surprise surprise, accuracy was a lot better too. The lube SK uses really made a difference for this action. Rifle is just as quiet as a bolt action with the suppressor, this is what I wanted from the beginning.

Targets 1-5 and above sighters were scope zero and functional testing, did notice that any HV rounds pulled high left of POA. Yardage 25 from the bench with bag, winds variable 0-8 MPH out of 7-8 oclock. Targets 11-15 were all SK+ ammo. Ignore Target 18 as it was standing offhand unsupported, just wanted to see how the rifle balanced in offhand shooting.

However I have decided to stick with my other .22's at this point and pare down some of my stuff so this receiver is going on the "for sale" pile. I'm glad I finally got it sorted out, but the Toggle action isnt for me, I'd rather have a semi-auto or true bolt action. I'll make a fellow SH member a hell of deal for the action with the PWS trigger pack and volquartsen parts.

Hello Tiger,
For the five minutes that I have looked at the Summit rifle, isn't it basically built from 10/22 type parts and made into a side lever / toggle bolt action? Much like a Browning T-bolt.
I have found that SK ammo works well in all of my guns except the Kriss Defiance. I need at least 1085 fps for the action to function as it should.

Personally I'd pay a bit extra and get an Izhmash and put it in a chassis instead of the Summit. A couple buddies have Summits and the Izhmash is much smoother. Accuracy is right up there with most top end boltguns but a lot faster to cycle.

My two have ARS chassis which really turns the gun into a real competition rig. Just make sure the gun has a 10 round magazine, rarer than hens teeth to get.

I have a PWS Summit with a KIDD 16" threaded barrel. It came with the PWS trigger which I really like, just took some time to adjust. It's all tucked into a Victor stock. I truly enjoy shooting it and it has taken its fair share of gophers. I don't remember er the last time I put it on paper but will say this, Aim, pull trigger and it hits, every time. Also, everyone who gets to shoot it asks to buy it. Sorry, not for sale.

Any photos???

How’s anyone liking the Summit? Considering it in the coming KRG bravo but in the total build cost starting to think a good 22 bolt may be better. I want to be able to do the work myself.

Don't have any pics of mine to share till Monday maybe. Mine with the KIDD barrel is very accurate. Not able to say on paper but hits on small critters out to 200 yards tells me this. I hunt and don't shot for groups much past initial site-in/breakin.

Also mine is built on MajorPandemic's action. I purchased it from him. I shimmed the KIDD barrel it by feel and did not measure headspace. It is 100% reliable on all accounts.
