My wifes wallet was stolen at her work today, the perp in a matter of 3 hours ran up over 3K in total charges. They did it at two malls! I got a call from the bank asking me what the F am I doing. We got all the cards cxled.. I got the description of the lady, got all the times and location of the thefts to the police. Now what do I do? The perps description is that of a new employee at her work, but I'm not trying to make any assumptions. What do I do?

If it was me .. contact the credit card companies and let them know ... I believe that they will send you a form that you will have to sign to get the charges forgiven. Unless they have video or if you can get the police to arrest and then have the shop owners identify in a line up ... I think that is all you can do. Not sure ... anyone eles?

Where did you get the description from? Was it from the places in which the card was used? If so then there should be video, especially if it was used in a mall. Try and talk to the employees where the cards were used and see what they say. Something the police should follow up on but doesn't always happen.

Sounds like you've done all you can up to this point. You said all the credit/bank cards were canceled but keep in mind any other documents that she may have had in her wallet (social security card, ID, driver's license etc) and take appropriate action.

I don't think that the bank will hold you to the money. In the case of something like this, most don't.

If it's been caught on film and it most likely was given the stores that you listed then you should have a face shortly and if it's someone that works with your wife, it will be even easier to make the ID and get a collar.

Good luck and I hate to say it because I don't know all the details and more importantly it shouldn't have to be this way, especially in one's place of work but perhaps this will serve as a lesson learned and in the future she will better safeguard her valuables.

When she gets a new wallet, and for yours, pull everything out and make a copy (front and back) then stow the pages in the gun safe. When stolen or lost, you now have all the information you need to cancel cards and get replacement documents. Seems like a pain until you need the info. Then you will be glad you did it.

Three times. Also make sure she gets fired. You sure as hell don't want her around your wife's work anymore.

    Had my card stolen-
The bank that issued the credit card and law enforcement will prosecute the woman. My credit card company doesnt hold you accountable for fraud.

The guy was caught, I didnt have to go to court as he copped a plea. Druggie.

    Good Luck

That's a useful thing to do. I also use a program called E-Wallet to store that information, encrypted, on both my computer and my cell phone. If my wallet is lost or stolen, I can use the information in either place to cancel the cards and get replacements. That's handy if you travel much and are often away from home.

The information is synced between the two platforms, and backed up additionally by a secure backup program to an online server.

I'm sure there are other ways to accomplish that. The point is to have one before you need it.

My mom had this happen to her. She left her wallet in a store and the lady at the store used her gas card and signed the ticket for the gas. The officer told her that using a stolen credit card is a big no no. It a feloy charge with and something about faud cause see signed the ticket or sign the electric machine most stores have now. My mom never got anything back but the money spent was returned by the card company. Still had to go thru all the torble of replacing cards/DL/SS card and what ever else was in the wallet. Best of luck!

My suggestion on the thread started a few days ago is to have canceled or bad cards on the top of you wallet, (not expired but canceled and reissued) that way the top cards are always tried first. When they are declined or shown to be bad cards at the checkout the bad guy or girl will think that the gig is up and toss the evidence.

Dont forget to call all three credit bureaus and have them put fraud alerts on your file - this will help prevent the perp or anyone she may have shared your personal info with from applying for credit in your name at a different address.

Go to your boss and get the information on her, she has to have a listed address you can give the police.

    Re: Wifes wallet stolen today!

The officers made contact with our friend, they asked to interview her, she said she wanted to only talk with a lawyer. So the officers decided to impound her car. They let her go, for now the officer told me. She was wearing a necklace that looked like one that was bought with one of my cards. They officers are now picking up all the videos from the mall. I think this might be over soon.

I hate thieves and I'm glad this seems to be going well for you.

I do have a question though, so bare with me:

The police made contact with the women and asked for an interview. She was not under arrest at the time and said she would comply as long as her lawyer was present (perfectly legal, sounds guilty, but legal). Did they charge her? Or how in the hell can the cops just decide to impound your car?

I would hate to think that if I was ever a person of interest in a crime that the police could simply impound my shit regardless of if I was charge or not. Plus, how do they justify impounding your vehicle in a case of theft?

Again, glad things are looking up for you but I was just curious about this.
