XLR Chassis Stock

What colors did you use on the xlr Chassis and action/barrel. I love it!

That would be fde on the barrel and patriot(maybe federal) on the chassis. I got a little bit of both if those on mine:

Have just ordered xlr carbon with tactical buttstock and wondered if anybody had installed thumbscrews on the cheekpiece if so what size?

I don't see the new folding stock adapter on the XLR website. Is it featured somewhere, and does it have any major advantages over the old adapter?

What's with that lower part of the stock? That is the carbon stock right, with the tactical butt stock? I like that hook on the bottom!

Not sure what I like better, the hook or the "speed holes"... They both look great though.

Kyle, is that a new thing.

It's Kyles new buttstock only just rolled out very recently. My carbon with new style buttstock is just being assembled, cant wait!

You will find the website is not very up to date. Better off ringing or emailing to see whats currently available. The website doesn't have the carbon chassis, new buttstock, XLR folder or XLR action rails on there for a start so who knows what other goodies their hiding up their sleeve.

Just ordered my second XLR for my FN SPR. Anyone else running the XLR on the SPR? I have been through the photos on this thread a few times and don't recall seeing one. Is someone has one please share a few shots so I have some gun porn till mine gets here.

Sully

I'm glad I didn't see that new stock design... I really like the hook on it, but I really like the holes in my old design stock....

I wouldn't have been able to decide which one I liked better, and I'd never order the thing!

I had a hell of a time choosing. I've been wanting the tactical buttstock since I first saw it. Of course I wanted an Evolution til the Carbon came out too.

Give Kyle a call. It is very solid, no movement at all. Easy to open and adjust. The original one was a bit loose and a pain to unlock.

What's the current turn around for the XLR Chasis? I placed an order with the owner along with the $400 deposit back in Feb-March. I waited 4-5 weeks and decided to give him a call because I wanted to complete my build. He simply said I am still behind and it will be another 4-5 weeks before I start on your stock. The stock I ordered was for a Rem 700 SA .308. I asked for a refund because I thought it was a joke waiting that long for a stock. I ended up getting a B&C light tactical and have loved the results.888 yards 3.5 inch tall jar of tannerite. I shot the white lid off and it tumbled down the hill is why it didn't explode.IMG_20130427_174825.jpg

Should have aimed lower.

Figured I'd add mine to the thread.

XLR Evolution Tactical
Savage Model 12 stainless action
Glade bolt knob
Shilen 26" 1:8 twist 22-250 barrel - Fluted by Kampfield
Vortex Viper 6-24 PST FFP EBR-1 MOA
ADM Recon mount/rings
EGW 20moa rail

Thinking Cerakote colors now. Lots of good ideas on this thread. Really like the OD green.

The wait it about the norm for a custom stock. A McMillan stock is probably a 6 month wait. You were half way there, I would have waited instead of buying the BC. That's like getting tried of waiting for a Corvette and buying a Civic instead.

I waited 3 months for mine and then waited 1 month more for the mags. Kyle is awesome and he kept me up to date on everything. He gave me the option of receiving my chassis first and he would send the mags later free shipping. Truthfully, at the time, 3 months was the shortest lead time for the stocks that I was looking for. That time was no loss at all. Again, at the time, KRG had a 6 month wait. J-Allen had a year... These chassis systems are extremely popular and require a lot of patience for both the manufacturer and the customer. I highly suggest you take time into account with any further purchases. When it comes to rifles (like many other things in life), you're going to want to get exactly what you want. Never settle. (Not saying B&C is bad. Just that it seems you already committed to XLR). Of course if your goal is to get everything ;) you can play with your B&C until the XLR chassis comes.

Everybody here has waited anywhere from 5-12 weeks for their stock. Are you saying you canceled your order at 5 weeks after he told you it would be 5 weeks more? Your loss. Good things come to those who wait...
Mine took 8 weeks, which is what he quoted me.

Yeah, thanks Paw for the advice!!! Yes, it was a total of almost two months before he even got started on it. He was a great guy to talk to over the phone didn't have a problem taking my deposit and said he had a couple before mine. I guess I got a little impatient, but don't give a date of completion and then give me a second date of completion with a two month gap. You want to talk about being patient? I am expecting a new can next week after finally getting approved. Only took 9 months.....

Yes, I would love to get my hands on one. The results I'm getting with my current configuration is almost perfect as far as groupings go on paper out to 1000+. If I ever get the itch again I will probably get one.

I am not sure who you this is...When we give a delivery date 99% of the time we are on time or early. We sometimes have delays because of suppliers or other manufacturing issues but that is definitely not the norm. We are good on communication and is you have any issues just let us know. We can usually work an alternative if the part we are missing is not in stock. Things like magazines we have no control over because I can not get good lead times from my own suppliers. I do my best to guess. Your original statement says that you only waited 5 weeks and now you are saying 2 months and then I extended it again? Unless this is for a custom inlet or a product that was not yet released I can say that has never happened. I said there was a couple before yours? We build about 10 chassis per day so generally there will be more than a couple before yours...

At any rate, if at any time through the build process anybody has questions of any kind feel free to contact us. We have an outstanding customer service record because we genuinely do care about our customers and their satisfaction. While it is impossible to please everyone out there I can say we give it our best shot.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

Those kind of lead times on a product are completely reasonable in my experience with the industry, especially given the nature of dealing with subcontractors and parts suppliers. Some people just expect instant gratification and cannot be patient. That is unfortunate.

That being said, I would rather wait longer for a very well made product, than get a mediocre one immediately. Milt Sparks versus Uncle Mikes being a prime example.

I continue to like what I see from XLR. It just so happens that I am in the process of gathering pieces together for a new long range play toy. I picked up an R 700 300 WM(strictly for the action, everything else will get traded or sold off) from Sportsmans warehouse a couple of weeks ago and this week acquired a lightly used nightforce 8-32 NXS.

I believe a carbon fiber chassis would be a fine choice.

Enjoying the pics guy's, keep em coming. :)

Kyle,

It wasn't my intention to degrade your customer service in a public place. I do apologize if it came off that way. I was the guy that called and asked about the etching that I wanted engraved into my stock. I'm not naming any names in a public place, but I had just lost a friend and wanted to build something in memory of him. I do apologize for my lack of patience in such a difficult time.

Best Regards,

CPO J.H.

Has anyone attached an aftermarket QD socket mount to the XLR handguard?

Also, what's the thread pitch/length on the cheek rest screw? I'd like to get a thumbscrew for easy adjustability going from prone to bench.

Our cheek rest screws are 1/4"-28.

We do sell a direct mount QD adapter for both the Evolution and Carbon chassis. Cost is $25 each.

I read a ways back in this thread that you have not released a Carbon XLR for the Savage LA. Any changes in this?

Thanks!

I am about to buy a Savage model 11 Hog Hunter in .223, I am just wanting to make sure that this will drop right into the XLR chassis and will be able to use the detachable 10 round mags? Also if anyone has experience with this setup I am curious to see what the barrel looks like with the iron sights removed.

Hello,

I read quite a lot of the posts in this thread but I still have a few questions; I hope someone can answer.

I see references to two forearm lengths, 14" and 16". Does anyone have pictures of both? Are there any other differences except the length; i.e. rail mounts?

This is the build I'm planning for; I would appreciate any input as of compatibility of parts:

Action: Savage 10 10 FCP-K .308
Chassis: XLR XLR Tactical Evolution (not sure about the tube length)
Scope: Leatherwood Uni-Dial 7x-30x, 30mm tube, 50mm objective
Base: Warne 1-Piece Tactical Picatinny-Style Scope Base Savage 10 (max I hope to be able to shoot it is 600 yd, that's why no 20MOA base)
Rings: Leupold QRW 30mm High
Bipod: Vanguard Equalizer Pro 1

I already have the scope, rings and bipod, being used on another rifle so I'll start with those to make all this more reasonable as far as the budget is concerned.

Thanks!

No difference other than length on forearms. Stick with the forearm that comes with the stock you plan to use, which for a savage 10 is going to be 14"

Bartlein .375 SnipeTac, 1:8", 34" (1.45"-1.25" taper).

Premier 5-25x56 moa/moa

Cmes in at a whopping 12.4kg with just the 300Norma barrel, near 15kg with the SnipeTac. I feel a hernia coming on.

Here is mine.

Savage Model 11 20" threaded barrel

Nothing real special but its mine and I got my chassis in 4 days!!!!

I just received my AICS 10 round mag yesterday and I am have a feeding problem. If I push the rounds all the way into the mag my Savage bolt is actually over the bullet and will not strip it from the mag. Something is not right, any idea's?

Never mind I did some research and found that I need to change or mod my front bolt baffle to allow the bolt to open further.

Are you sure those are AI mags? I didn't know they made plastic mags.
