XLR Chassis Stock

Never mind I did some research and found that I need to change or mod my front bolt baffle to allow the bolt to open further.

I just received my AICS 10 round mag yesterday and I am have a feeding problem. If I push the rounds all the way into the mag my Savage bolt is actually over the bullet and will not strip it from the mag. Something is not right, any idea's?

Are you sure those are AI mags? I didn't know they made plastic mags.

XLR, do you know if a Savage 10FP would work in your stock with your mag inlet and aftermarket magazine?

I am curious of this too. I have a model 10 fcp-sr with the bottom bolt release though....? if this would work wonder what the total weight would be at?

Yeah, you need to grind off about 1/4" from the back of the baffle. After that, easy peasy...

(A bench grinder and some pliers work pretty well for this)

Yes, we do build our chassis for all models of the Savage 10,11,12,15,16,110,111,112,115, etc. We can do right or left hand, side or trigger guard bolt release, and 4.275 or 4.41 bolt spacing.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

It looks like you figured it out but yes, the Savage 223's will need to have the bolt baffle switched out for a 308/300 version or have the existing baffle shortened so the bolt has enough reward travel.

Thanks, Kyle ~ XLR

Do you require the barrel and action shipped to you? to be fitted into the chassis due to the bottom bolt release? and what would the total weight be approx (+ -), would this chassis still be practical for tactical matches? Also I am guessing this type chassis would be as good as a McMillian, Manners etc.... for accuracy sake?

No you don't need to send the barreled action in. He has done numerous bottom bolt release chassis. A standard evolution chassis weighs 4 pounds. Might have to add a little weight from there should you decide to go with the folder and/or tactical butt stock, but it's negligible, less than a pound.
So subtract whatever your current stock weighs from the xlr weight and you'll get an ideaof the weight. It's not Kyle's job to speculate on what a customer's rifle will weigh.
To answer your question on accuracy, yes, a chassis system is every bit as accurate as a bedded fiberglass stock. Some might argue that it has potential to be more accurate due to the little bit of extra weight, pistol grip, and fully modular design.
It's up to you as to whether or not it's an ideal practical tactical stock, as it's personal preference, but my opinion is yes.

thank you very much sir, great answer and thank you for being specific.

I'd say go for some American Rifle Company or ARC rings. 2 screws and they are REALLY easy to use as well as being the most solid mount IMO outside of a Spuhr. They don't leave big mars on the scope either so its nice for resale if you decide to do so.

Just off the phone with Kyle and my FN SPR XLR will be shipping tomorrow. Total time from order to delivery was less then six weeks, and Kyle has the best CS I have ever seen. This is my second XLR and will not be my last, I see a carbon fiber XLR for my 700 in the future. I have used quite a few chassis systems and for the fit, quality and price the XLR is second to none, and it is damn sexy looking too! I was at a sniper school a few weeks back and brought my Howa/XLR to shoot a bit along with my duty rig. When I broke it out there was a line of shooters asking to take it for a ride. The two instructors jumped on too and were blown away to say the least. My lead instructor, who is not a chassis guy, commented that this was the only chassis he would ever use for tactical use and was going to look up XLR industries after the course. I will post photos as soon as she gets put together.

My second (and not last) XLR arrived Wednesday so of course I had to get it all together and hit the range today. This is on a FN SPR action, 20" McGowen barrel (6 grove, 1-10") Phoenix bolt handle, Aadland mount and Badger base (trimmed to fit the chassis) and the SS 5-20. I painted the stock with Rustolum OD and then added the GunSkins ATACS-FG to the chassis. They look very nice and I will be testing to see how durable they are. Only had about 30 min and 10 rounds for the range and I only need one round to get it adjusted to the new stock. The other photo is after I adjusted back right a tick and put a seven round group in the next target. Not my best shooting but it is well under MOA and the stock just feels perfect! Thanks Kyle for such a great product.

Long time lurker... Ordered up an Evolution Tactical anodized Green with 14" guard for my Rem 700 Varmint with 26" Barrel. Currently the gun is at the Gunsmith having the barrel threaded for a Precision armament Muzzle Brake. Excited to say the least... 5 week wait for the stock, not bad... But each day feels like an eternity already. Again Kyle was a pleasure to work with and I give him a thumbs up along with everyone else.

Great thread everyone, great insight and thank you for al the information! I will probably followup with questions but trying to research before I make a Noob mistake!

Here's mine:
-Savage Model 10 in .308
-XLR Carbon
-M10 rings
-SWFA SS 10x42
-Shilen Match Select barrel
-Monopod
-Harris bipod

At first I wanted to upgrade the scope, but I can't find any reason not to like it. Except for the fixed power, she's done everything I've asked her to do +1000yds. Need some 10rd mags though...

I just ordered the SS 3-15x42 for my Savage, I am really looking forward to trying it out.

Can the hand guard be notched to allow for a lower scope mount like my 20 moa with a Vortex
Medium rings ?
I would like to pick one up and it does not look like it will fit with what I am running.

XLR Chassis Stock

Yes , BUT you may have to notch the upper clamp on the handguard. You will probably be better off to buy new rings.

It all depends on the ring height and the obj. Size.

All you need is high rings and you'll be good to go. Notching has been done before, but only for a scope that is just a hair too low. If you're only going to be like 1/32-1/16" too low, you can get away with notching.

A quick pic of mine: Tactical Evolution Chassis on my GAP Surgeon .308. 20" Bartlein #7 threaded and capped (form 4 is in for the Templar Archangel group buy can). It's currently wearing the Leupold Mk8 (Horus), while I await the BEAST (along with everyone else).

Ordered my XLR chassis from Kyle 2 1/2 weeks ago. He said it would take about 5 weeks. I thought with the holidays it would take a bit longer and I wouldn't get it for Christmas. No worries, it will be worth the wait. Kyle called yesterday and said its ready to ship! 2 1/2 weeks earlier than quoted. That's serious customer service. Kyle is very easy to work with.
In contrast I ordered a 6.5 Grendel from Alexander Arms 6 months and 12 days ago. Sent an email a week ago inquiring about an approximate completion date. I received an auto reply email telling me not to contact them about my order. I wish Kyle worked there. Cheers

I also got my Car on Chassis a few weeks earlier than expected. I was happy with the long wait, but was even happier when it showed up early. I love it when people do that! Thanks again Kyle!

XLR Carbon Chassis - Savage 10FCP-K (308 WIN)

I fairly recently received my XLR Carbon Series Chassis and I'm in final production of my YouTube video showing my initial range results out to 1000 yards. My initial comments are that the chassis is manufactured from outstanding quality and workmanship (followed-up with unsurpassed customer service!) It is exceedingly quick/easy to install, and performance/accuracy have been exceptional. From a pure cosmetic perspective, the Carbon Series carries a definite “Wow Factor” from fellow shooters, which is repeated every time I bring it out of my Galati drag bag. That wow factor continues, as the repeatable long-range weapon system performance is registered by curious observers. It would be very easy to spend double/triple the price of this weapon system for similar half MOA (or less) performance “which this system accomplishes using Factory OTM ammo” @ $18 a box. And while I would never begrudge anyone (with the resources) to do so, it is nice to know that one does not have to sacrifice performance/aesthetics based on dollars.

I should be getting a call any day now... I mailed my Scope base off to Kyle last week and he said it should only be a week or two more for the chassis to be done. I feel like a kid before Christmas!

Waiting is the toughest part of the ordering process, I thought it was going to be the payment... Nahhh... Kyle could probably make a few extra bucks for charging a "stand by" base fee, or charging more for expedited service... Extra $200.00 and I'm sure he would have tons of business...

Would this stock be good for a hunting build? Is it light enough for that? What's the total weight of a typical rifle with this chassis?

cheers

Maybe the carbon version. This one of mine is the aluminum version. All up its 22lbs...
uby6uzu9.jpg

Of course, a short action stop with a lighter bipod, scope, light varmint, shorter barrel, no brake would be a good bit lighter.

I not a fan of the painted stock, not sure if that is the case here, but DAMN! this is one sexy-assed XLR set-up...

Ok thanks, I'll have to spec out a build and estimate a weight. Going to have to check it out at the gun shop. Really want a hunting build with this, this stock is growing on me the more I look at it.

Just can't say enough how pleased I am with Mark and the guys at Accurate Ordnance.....great workmanship, and the gun is shooting well with 90 rounds fired....load workup almost complete, barrel is seasoned, tried some Copper Creek ammo as a crosscheck to my own load buildup, and it is awesome.

Thanks, Mark!
