Please help me get my account deleted. I got all the firearms info I need for now. The bear pit is addictive and logging out and trying to stay away isn’t helping. The political stuff gets to me to the point where I’m so grumpy/depressed and it affects the people I love.

Many of the guys here are talented, knowledgeable, experienced, smart, and I don’t think I belong here until I get kicked around by life a little more. Maybe I’ll try again with a humble approach and more humility in a few years.

Somebody mentioned in an old thread that cussing a staff member can get your account deleted. So, here I go… fuck you @Lowlight. If this doesn’t work… idk, I put my faith in the pit.

Thank you.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye .257 Roberts accuracy expectations?

I was gifted a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .257 Roberts. I understand that the rifle is quite desirable, so I haven't changed anything on it. It's completely stock. No bedding job, no aftermarket trigger, etc. I worked up a load with 42 gr. H4350 and a 117 grain Hornady SST. I'm getting 1-1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yards. I can't seem to get anything better. Is this reasonable with this rifle and handloads? Am I being too picky? I plan on deer hunting with it, that's about it.

Another church massacre twarted this moring by armed parishiners in Burnet, TX.

This is just blocks from where I eat breakfast sometimes.

Two 'dark skinned males, one wearing a Muslim turbine' tried to block a church exit with a rock. Armed church goers weren't having it. Shots were fired and one 'dark skinned male' exited a white van brandishing an AR15 before fleeing north.

Austin's news channel also covered it but of course left out the description of the two terrorists.

Is this a good setup for a new guy?

My plans are to start reloading for a .270, 6.5 creedmoor and 30-06 to start with. I want to make good precision ammo for the 30-06 to reach out to 1000 yards. This is what I had in mind.

-RCBS rock chucker supreme reloading kit.

-Frankford arsenal platinum case prep and trim station.

-RCBS powder trickler.

-308 shell holder and powder thrower bracket.

-Redding Premium full length sizing die and bullet seater.

-Digital calipers and a Hornady lock and load bullet comparator.

-Vibratory case tumbler and media for cleaning cases.

-Chronograph of some sort to measure bullet speed.

-Brass, powder, bullets and primers.

The RCBS kit comes with a reloading manual and a manual beam scale which I’ve heard is more accurate than the digital powder throwers just takes more time which is fine with me as I’ll just be making small batches of ammo to start with. Is there anything you would add or change, open to all suggestions as I don’t know anyone that reloads so I’ll be learning as I go.

Prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers

Here's something that's never been discussed on the forums, and I thought that it's a topic that warrants it's own thread (as opposed to being posted in the big Mk13 thread). Recently, a small group of 8 or 9 original prototype/sample Stiller Mk13 receivers popped up in the collector market and were sold. I have 2 of them in my possession, but only one of them is mine (serial number 3), the other receiver belongs to my brother (serial number 12). Collectors were limited to purchasing just 1 receiver, not multiples, in order to keep things fair.

When Crane put out a solicitation for the Mk13 receivers, Stiller made 25 of them according to Crane's specifications. The 8 or 9 receivers that recently hit the collectors market were from this original batch of 25 receivers. These Stiller Mk13 receivers are considered to be prototypes and/or sample pieces for Crane, and were never issued.

Stiller based these prototype Mk13 receivers off their Tac 300 receivers, but the 2 types of receivers have some differences. The biggest difference between a Mk13 receiver and Tac 300 receiver is the lack of the flat left side on the Mk13 receiver. This is because Crane specifically requested round receivers for their Mk13 program. Stiller assumed that the entire receiver should be round, even though Crane was only referring to the bottom of the receiver (such as a round bottom Remington 700 receiver compared to a flat bottom Winchester Model 70 receiver), so Stiller didn't cut the flat into the left side of the receiver like the Tac 300 has.

The armorers from Crane inspected these 25 prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers and liked what they saw, but they did request a few changes to the receivers. Here's a list of changes that Crane requested Stiller to make:

● Remove the "C" serial number suffix (the "C" suffix stood for "Crane")
● Remove the space between the "MKA" serial number prefix and the rest of the serial number
● Add one more digit to the number portion of the serial number (4 digits to 5 digits)
● Move the engraved serial number from the left side of the receiver to the right side of the receiver
● Remove the gas vent hole from the receiver
● Add an RFID tag to the left side of the receiver that has a 2D barcode, Stiller manufacturer cage code, Mk13 receiver part number, and Mk13 receiver serial number

There's also another for differences between the 25 Mk13 prototype receivers and the issued Mk13 receivers, but I highly doubt that these were changes that were requested by Crane. I think that these are just things that Stiller did on their own, for whatever reason. These are just some things I've noticed when comparing the prototype Stiler Mk13 receivers to the issued Stiller Mk13 receivers:

● The prototype receivers don't have commas in the FFL markings, the issued receivers do have the commas in the FFL markings
● The prototype receivers have a slightly thicker outline to the "MK13 300WM" markings than the issued receivers (bold text vs regular text)
● The prototype receivers have a slightly different letter font and size to the "MK13 300WM" markings than the issued receivers (this can really be seen when comparing the "W" and "M" letters on the receivers)
● The prototype receivers have a slightly different letter font and size to the "SPF LLC WYLIE TX" markings than the issued receivers (this can really be seen when comparing the "W" letters on the receivers)
● The prototype receivers have a shiny finish bolt shroud and bolt knob, the issued receivers have a matte finish bolt shroud and bolt knob

The 25 prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers were never built by Crane or issued to any military unit. The owner of Stiller might have kept some of these 25 prototype Mk13 receivers for his personal collection or for the company's records, and he might have sold and/or given away some of these prototype Mk13 receivers to employees and friends. I have no idea who had these 8 or 9 prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers that were just sold to collectors, or if there's any other prototype Mk13 receivers out there. I assume that none of the 25 original prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers were destroyed, so they have to be somewhere. However, myself and other big Mk13 collectors had absolutely no idea that these prototype receivers even existed before these receivers popped up for sale. I assume that these receivers are also unknown to just about everyone on this forum, so this thread should have some interesting information for the collector community.

Well, that's enough typing, here's a bunch of photos of the prototype Stiller Mk13 receivers for you all to enjoy. I also took a few photos of my other 2 Stiller Wylie Mk13 receivers (build into Mk13 Mod 5 and Mod 7 rifles) so that the differences between the prototype receivers and the issued receivers can easily be seen:

Rifle Scopes Are ADM QD, verical split ring mounts that bad?

This seems like a contentious question but it hasn't come up in a while so Inwas hoping to get current opinions.

My local shop that has everything I am getting for a new build has a selection of ADM mounts. I am looking for a 20 MOA base and had my eye on the Recon S type. They also have a lot of the Recon cantilever models.

I see a lot of hate for both QD mounts and vertically split rings but these rings are independent of the base so are they an exception? The only other 20 MOA bases they have are one model Vortex and a few Sphurs. I have had a Spuhr before but it's double the price and I just don't know how much better it is.

Sorry to reopen an old debate.

Didnt vote in 2020? Check if you really did! FRAUD story

Was at the DMV friday, Elkhorn WI. took my number and went and sat down. I sat next to a table in back (6ft away) where an elderly lady was asking people if they are registered to vote and then with a computer there helping them register. A guy walks up, maybe in his 60s, says he moved to a different town, and now moved back to Whitewater so he needs to register to vote. He started telling the lady that he did not vote in the 2020 election and when he went online and looked himself up, it said the last time he voted was 2020 and voted absentee (by mail) , man was confused and irritated. Said he had to look up what "absentee" meant. The lady set him up on the computer to register.... when he logged in.. he said "look... right there it says last time I voted was 2020 by absentee". He also said his wife did not vote in 2020 and it also said the last time she voted was 2020 absentee. He was asking the elderly woman what can be done about it and who he voted for as the website will not tell you who you voted for. He explained to her he told a colleague at work and the person laughed and said he was full of it. The colleague also did not vote in 2020 and the man told him to look it up.... The website said the last time the colleague voted was 2020 also by absentee, this guy lives near Milwaukee. The man was kinda mad and the elderly woman had no answers, she told him to tell people running it... neither knew who to contact... and i'm guessing the game of tag that would be trying to find someone to tell would be a joke.

Mine seems legit.

Self-proclaimed Pit Masters of SH- I've got some questions

For those here that are well versed with the smoking of meat- I've got a Weber SMC coming this week and it'll be my first experience into giving this type of cooking a try myself (although I am a longtime fan of the end result). So as mentioned- I've got a SMC coming, approximately 70lbs of Kingsford Blue Briquettes, as well as Hickory/Cherry/Mesquite/Pecan/Apple Wood chunks.

I've been reading through various online articles and watching YouTube videos over the past week and it sounds like either pork butt or chicken thighs is the most forgiving for starting out and I'm leaning towards starting with the thighs myself. I think I'm good with the importance of maintaining temperature and how to do it (I also have a Termopro temperature gauge in the order with two probes, one of which I believe is best served to use one to monitor the ambient temperature at the rack with the 2nd being used to monitor meat temperature), understand the trimming of various cuts of meats, dry rubs, and marinating/basting timing. If I start with the thighs, I'm thinking of using either the Pecan, Cherry or Applewood for the first time (I prefer the heavy smoke flavor that hickory or Mesquite will impart but I'll likely have a crowd to evaluate how things turn out so understand the alternatives to be a bit milder/safer for a group.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole wet/dry brining element though as well as to understand the variations in smoking temperature. I've also seen some recipes where they put the chicken thighs in a pan rather than directly on the grill/arguments on whether or not to use the water pan (seems to focus more towards it being more favorable for the lower temperatures as far as I can tell but chicken seems to want to be smoked hotter than say the pork butt ... So many variables and I'm still trying to figure it all out.

All that said- for the Pit Masters here, any tips/tricks for someone starting out on their smoking journey that you'd be willing to share?
