Curio and Relic license

Surely someone here has one, has had one, or knows someone who does/did.

What are the in's and out's of having one?

Are you required to keep meticulous records like a regular FFL? (A good idea anyway, but still)

Are you subject to bullshit random inspections any time someone at ATF gets bored?

Any caveats that aren't generally known/discussed?

It's a $30 application and I have a bit of a fetish for old military rifles... So I was curious.

USMC Unertl locking in the parallax on the objective

Ok... call me a homo! Yes I'm picking on myself! I should be able to figure this out but for whatever reason it's kicking my butt!

So, I shot the M40A1 today and wanted to fine tune the zero a little more as well as set the focus etc... after shooting it at my 117-yard target I then went to the steel plate at 430 yards. If I get the chance, I might be able to shoot the rifle in a vintage sniper rifle match in early Dec. out in MT. That match is shot at 300, 385 and 500 yards. So, I want to lock in the parallax/focus on the objective. Here is where it is at... but how do I lock it in without it moving on me? You can see the gap at the very front of the ring and behind the larger diameter ring.

This was my last group for getting a final zero on it at 117 yards. Yes... I was a homo on that high round. Probably too much time playing with all the adjustments and just blew it. More I think about it I didn’t blow it. I did bring the zero down on the scope with the allen wrench and locked it in. I needed about 1.5” down and tried to move it about 1 minute… I think I got it right! Only needed one windage adjustment after my bore sight job and first sighter…never touched the windage dial after that. So the scope is tracking and holding zero!

So happy with the 117 yard zero... I moved the elevation dial to 4 and initially moved the fine tune adjustment up 1 click also but knowing the 169smk have a higher bc than the old 173gr bullets and even more than 175smk... I decided to take the 1 click off the fine adjustment. On top of all that for the most part I've been having a tail wind mostly speed wise from 6-11mph. Glad I took that fine adjustment click off.

So, for 37 rounds down the barrel... I'm digging it! Average velocity is coming in at 2687fps. No need to run it any faster.

So, thoughts on locking in the objective ring without moving the whole set up please.

did i made an error while mounting this scope?

Hi, i am probably massively overthinking this but, since this is a pretty expensive rig, i want to set it up in the best way. I mounted the scope following a strict procedure (the crosshair is level to gravity and to the top ring bubble, everything is torqued down to specs). It was a long process and i wish i won't have to do it again.

Using the typical criss cross pattern method i torqued every top ring screw to 25 in/lbs with these hawkins light tactical 30 mm rings.

At the end of the process i was very satisfied because the system crosshair-bubble is perfectly leveled to gravity. I noticed that the gap between the front and rear rings is not perfectly even. I read somewhere that someone is even using feeler gauges to check fo uniformity in the gaps. Since of course having the exact identical gap is impossible, i want to understand if in my case the gap differences are acceptable or not.

I measured with a feeler gauge: rear left 0.9 mm (0.035 inches) gap, rear right 0.9 mm gap, front left 0.80 mm (0.031 inches) gap, front right 0.85 mm gap. So basically there is a max 0.1 mm (1/256 inches) difference between the rear and the front rings, while there is a max 0.05 mm (1/512 inches) difference between left and right.

i will post some pics. The gap is not easily visible in these pics i think but when looking in person i notice it.

what do you guys think?

SOLD WTS: Ruger 10/22 Hammer Forged Barrel, Archangel, Kidd Bolt/Ruger BX Trigger, Hawke 3-12X50 Scope, Harris

Hi Folks,

I am selling my nicely customized Ruger 10/22 rifle. The barrel is the Ruger heavy forged that originally came in Ruger wood stock. The bolt is a Kidd stainless matte and trigger is a Ruger BX, while the new stock is a Pro Mag Archangel. The Scope is a Hawke Optics 3X-12X x 50mm and the gun is supported on a Harris Bipod. This setup is an excellent shooting platform off the bench or field. I am including 2, 10 round magazines along with the original Ruger bolt and flip up scope shades. I put 400 rounds through the barrel during my ownership, but do not know the actual round count as I purchased it pre-owned. No box or accessories for the Hawke scope (the way I bought it). I will tell you this is an extremely accurate 10/22.

Sell the whole rig as pictured for $675. or will sell everything minus the scope for $525. FFL to FFL only. Payment is by USPS money orders, bank check, or personal check (must clear first). No Paypal, Zelle or Venmo. PM here for questions. No trades, please.

Lapping Scope rings - I see mostly No but some Yes

Hi.
I am old school (an also old :-( ) I have always lapped rings and dusted with rosin before tightening. Never had anything move on the 50s. I am mounting a NF ACACR 7-35 FFP using NF Extreme Ultralight 6 screw rings on a Styer factory rail. I lapped the last set of Vortex 6 screw rings and it took quite a bit of lapping to get to 90% contact. This is on a suppressed Styer SSG 04 in 300 Win Mag so really not the same force as a fifty. This is the most expensive scope I have bought and do not want to leave ring marks on the scope but at the same time I do not want to wast my time lapping if it isn't going to be needed. I read on one post where it was not necessary with NF rings. The last set I used on a SSG 08 in 308 didn't have much at all to lap. That was for a NF NX8 so about half the price of this scope.
Thanks for any recommendations.
