LA Times, Harris’s Hometown Paper, Refuses to Endorse Her.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s hometown paper, the Los Angeles Times, will not deliver a 2024 presidential endorsement.

The paper’s lack of an endorsement is a slight to Harris. The Times endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020, Hillary Clinton in 2016, and Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008.

The decision not to endorse Harris came from the paper’s owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shion, Semafor’s Max Tani reported Tuesday:

[A]ccording to two people familiar with the situation, executive editor Terry Tang told editorial board staff earlier this month that the paper would not be endorsing a candidate in the presidential election this cycle, a decision that came from the paper’s owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a doctor who made his fortune in the healthcare industry.
The paper did not explain its decision, though it noted at the bottom of its online endorsement page that “the editorial board endorses selectively, choosing the most consequential races in which to make recommendations.”

It wouldn’t be the first time since he bought the paper in 2018 that owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong had overruled the wishes of the paper’s editorial board. In 2020, the paper met with Democratic candidates for president for interviews with the intention of making a pick in the race. But after deciding to endorse Elizabeth Warren in the Democratic, at the last minute Soon-Shiong overruled its leadership and said there would be no endorsement in the primary race (the paper endorsed Joe Biden in the general election).

After Richard Nixon won reelection in 1972 and then resigned from the presidency in the wake of Watergate, the paper stopped endorsing candidates. Throughout Nixon’s career, the Times had backed the California Republican throughout his House, senate, and presidential campaigns. Its next endorsement came about 30 years later in 2008.

Medium Weight 20" match 5.56/.223 barrel's: Where are they?

Long story short:
I'm looking for a medium weight 20" 1/7 twist quality AR barrel and they don't seem to exist.
Normally the answer is turn key WOA, Craddock, or CLE [RIP], but not this time.
What are the options out there?

Details:
I'm building a general purpose 20" AR in 5.56/.223 that needs to be usable [weight wise] in the field. But it also needs to be accurate and able to shoot groups without heating up too quickly.
I'm going for something like an accurized M16A5 concept or lightweight SAM-R... So no flutes.

Criteria:
I need the barrel to be match quality, be under 2.75lbs, have a .750 gas block diameter, and I'd prefer 1/7 twist.
Everything I can find seems to compromise on one or more of my criteria.

This Lilja looks like the closest thing I can find, but I'll have to accept the 1/8 twist, which should be fine for 77gr pills, but I'd prefer 1/7. Also, it's a premium. 💲

What else is there?

Well the first thing you know Ol' Jed's a millionaire…..

Let’s just say if this is true…..oh boy.

It wasn't the first or second shot, but it was the last

My son had an interesting adventure over the weekend mule deer hunting. He broke the trigger guard and trigger while shooting at a mule deer (recoil slammed trigger guard into a rock he was laying over). What was fortunate for him , is that the gun still functioned after the damage shown, and he was able to put the finishing shot on a mule deer at 700 yards with the rifle. (Buddy was not hunting nor did he have a rifle).

It's not huge, but it will eat good, and any more, any deer in this State is a good deer (communist mismanaged state of WA). Department of No Fish and Wildlife, but I digress.

7mm Remington Magnum factory VSSF 162 Amax 71.4 grains Retumbo Fed 215.

It is the most tender liver I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a few in 50 + yrs of hunting.

Surprisingly, there was quite a bit of hydraulic damage, even at distance. I'll have to look at the ballistic program and see what the impact velocity was.

UKRAINE SPENDING AND THE BIG MAC’S RIGHT TO SELF - DETERMINATION

Before we begin, do you condemn Big Macs?

Do you sympathize with all these beheaded burgers, thrown into the oven?

Some kitchenomics derived from obsolete data

$137,000,000,000 planned total to be gifted (perhaps loaned) Ukraine as of August 2023

$6 per Big Mac

22,833,333,333 Big Macs

410 cm3 or 0.014479 ft3 per Big Mac

330,603,833 ft3 of Big Macs

37,000,000 ft3 Volume of Empire State Building

That’s around 8.935 Empire State Buildings full of Big Macs

…if the $137,000,000,000 planned total for Ukraine is accurate, and the price of Big Macs costing $6 a piece, that would be 22,833,333,333 burgers.

With an estimated volume of 410 cubic centimeters or 0.014479 cubic feet per Big Mac, that would be around 330,603,833 cubic feet of buns, lettuce, tomatoes, and mystery meat total.

If the Empire State Building has a volume of 37,000,000 cubic feet, then one can pile all those Big Macs into a structure

8.935 Empire State Buildings high

Perhaps even 16 to 18 Empire State Buildings, but I haven’t seen any BOGO coupons for months, with our present economy.
