Ex-Uvalde school police chief Arredondo didn't stop gunman 'hunting and shooting' students

UVALDE, Texas — A 10-count indictment made public Friday accuses former Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo of 10 missteps that led to the botched law enforcement response to an active shooter who killed 19 children and two teachers in May 2022.

Authorities booked Arredondo on Thursday into the county jail, where he spent about 90 minutes before being released on bond.

A grand jury also indicted former school district police officer Adrian Gonzales, whose role has been less public in the two years and one month since the shooting. He had not been booked into jail as of Friday, and an indictment in his case remains under seal.

The indictments are the culmination of a six-month grand jury investigation that included months of in-person testimony, including from Texas Department of Public Safety director Col. Steve McCraw.

The officers face up to two years behind bars and a $10,000 fine if convicted of the state jail felony charges.

Barrel out of spec? Origin shouldered to savage style.

Hey guys, I am piecing together a beater on a Solus action. I do have an origin shouldered prefit that is perfect. Today I picked up a rainier arms 8.6 blackout savage small shank match barrel. As I screw the barrel into the action I make less than 1/2 rotation before it becomes overly tight, almost like it’s wanting to cross thread. This being said, I am positive I am not cross threading. I can feel the threads properly in the thread channels. Any ideas how else to troubleshoot this specific problem?

Almost new rifle - groups spread horizontal

Hello guys,
got me a new Bergara B14 Wilderness Sierra for hunting in .270 Winchester.

I´ve tried some bullets but the groups weren´t good in the beginning.
I stuck with the Nosler 150gr. BT, which seemed to have the best precision potential.

Made a ladder test and found a plateau close to the maximum powder load (what Quickload said).
Primers and brass still looking good, I began to vary the OAL.

From 6 loads with different OALs (each 5 rounds), I had two loads spreading evenly horizontal and vertical at about 1.2"ish.
4 loads had only a vertical spread of around 0.4", but still a horizontal spread of round about 1.2".

I don´t now where, but in a book or in the internet I´ve read, that a horizontal spread can be caused by a too stout load.

Can somebody confirm this, or is this nonsense?

Barrel threading question?

So, I'm not a machinist, but I understand a few things in regards to how things work and why something is made a certain way, etc.. This pertains to when one would screw on a tuner, this case an ATS and you have to use the spacer and maybe another smaller one so the threads of the tuner will stay on the barrel threads. When a barrel is threaded is there a reason why there's such a large gap between the ends of the threads and the barrel shoulder? My guess is the cutter is a certain width and one is unable to run the threads closer to the shoulder? If that's not it, why is it?

Humor Me. Wouldnt a 10-30x or 8-24x offer benefits?

Wouldn't a higher low end make scopes shorter and lighter?
Have a more useable reticle size throughout its range.
Possibly a better eyebox and or FOV?

Most people aren't using the lower powers on FFP scopes right?

Anyone with more knowledge than me care to share or speculate what a 10-30x, 8-24x, or even 10-20x might offer over the current standards?

Night Vision SOLD 3500 FOM PVS30 (L3 Unfilmed) Price Drop

Looking to sell my PVS30 retubed by Jay at Sure Shot Nightvision with a 3504 FOM L3 unfilmed tube (91 LP / 38.5 SNR) and one-of-a-kind multicam paint job done by Jay himself. The image is absolutely stunning and handles magnification extremely well (I've run it to 25x without IR illumination on half moon night). Has one spot at the 3 o'clock that disappears at about 4x.

Last pic is a yote I shot at 300yds without any adjustment (Jay says collimation is perfect and I believe it)

Happy to send any other pics or answer questions if you have them

$14.5k cash but worst I can say to a trade is no

Willing to look at trades for a Can Am Defender or Commander 4 door. Possibly similar Polaris machine. Cash may go either way.

Located in NE IA if you want to see it yourself

Worrisome news about John Force

Moving this to its own thread, 16 time Funny Car champion and winner of 157 races, John Force is said to be improving.

However, the report from John Force Racing is that he has been moved to Neurological ICU for an unspecified head injury. It has been widely reported that he was responsive when he was taken to the hospital after the accident. However, again, Michael Schumacher, 7 time Formula 1 World Champion was also responsive and talking when he was loaded into the Medivac helicopter following his ski accident. He was basically placed in a medically induced coma and has never recovered, remaining a total physical and mental invalid

Thus saying, having worked with closed head injuries on many patients in my working life, this has the ring of something very serious. Like him, hate him or could care less about him, like everyone else who has ever suffered a head injury, he needs our prayers

Watch guys: When would you actually use a tachmeter?

For all of you watch guys: when would you actually use a tachymeter?

And let's get it out of the way up front: yes, what prompted the question is that I have the option to buy a watch at a good price, which happens to have a tachymeter. No, not looking for "purchase confirmation", but genuinely interested in their use.

I've read up on how tachymeters are used, and I'm not sure that I'd ever be in a position with a known start and finish point for a set distance to measure speed.

I'm also pretty sure that if I was able to travel at a consistent rate of speed in a car, then I'd know how far I've travelled. If I'm in my own car, I figure it's going to have a speedometer and an odometer.

Timing cars racing around a track isn't a functional use for me. The best I've read online is of people checking their speedometers if they think they're broken, or perhaps got new tires.

Is there any functional use for a tachymeter? I've seen military imagery/iconography used in ads to sell watches with them - is there a functional use in military contexts?

Sure, cellphones are used as arguments against all kinds of "old tech" and we don't need to point that out here (I still like slide rules, and can usually turn to a page in a diary faster than colleagues can look up electronic calendars). I'm even interested in what might have been genuine late 1800s/early 1900s use for a tachy that could apply now - or some kind of future grid-down/TEOTWAWKI/Red Dawn/Terminator scenario uses, figuring this would be a timepiece I'd hand down to my son.

So ... what functional use does a tachymeter have? Have you ever used one, and for what? What can you imagine using one for?
