Suppressors Please help educate me on .357 cans

Hey Guys,

So I picked up a lever action .357 mag as a fun steel target gun and now I want to put a can on it. I am pretty confused about what 7.62, 36 cal, 9mm cans working with .357. Form what I gather .45 can is the proper guaranteed to work way to go but of course I don't own any .45 cans. I recently saw with a quick google search that that someone was running an Enticer Ti on a .357 lever gun and by chance I have an Enticer Ti but im to scared to try it as logically .357" is larger than .308" I also have a 9mm can and these seem to be alot more accepted for 357 use but still technically 9mm is a hair smaller than 357. I also have a Hux Flow Range 36 in jail.

So I guess my question is what is the proper size can for a 357? and can you get away with a 36 cal can or 9mm can?

Firearms Staccato XC setup

Staccato XC fired approximately 400 rounds. It has a 507 comp ronin, 4 20 round magazines, 3 17 round magazines, and a Trex arms holster (before the company turned to trash). Wanted to shoot pistol competitions but have no time with the wife and kids. $3800 shipped from my ffl to yours, or face to face in Birmingham AL. Only trades considered would be a Beretta 1301 tactical, or Beretta A300 ultima patrol.

Is the .17HMR really much better than .22LR for varmints?

I am considering investing in my Savage 93R17 BSEV to get some more use out of it. I haven't shot it in years.

I don't shoot it much anymore because it's boringly accurate and as a gopher rifle my .22 is more like my hunting and match rifles and is three times cheaper to shoot while the Savage is quite lacking at the moment in the optics and chassis department. The .22 works for what I use it for but I was thinking the .17 would be better.

My thinking was I would have a flatter shooting rifle for medium varmints like skunks, foxes, beavers, muskrats, and possibly coyotes for when centerfires would be overkill or too loud around the property as suppressors aren't an option.

I am far from a ballistics expert but comparing the .17HMR to the .22 Mini Mags it's better but not a lot better.

Here's .22:

Screenshot_20250809_172855_Strelok Pro.jpg

And here's the .17:

Screenshot_20250809_213636_Strelok Pro.jpg

So it seems that my point blank range only increases from about 110 yards to 140 yards or so which isn't a lot really. Also not sure that bullet energy is the end all, be all of stopping power but it doesn't seem to offer a huge increase for larger animals.

Would I be correct to think the .17HMR is only 25 to 30% better than a .22 with Mini Mags? Stingers pack more of a punch but they weren't as accurate for me. The .17 does shoot flatter but past 150 yards does it have enough energy for the critters I would be going after?

Also side note, if I get a new base rail I don't think there is any reason to go with a 20 MOA one as at 300 yards it only needs a little over 3 mil.

I'm stumped...bolt won't close

Defiance action with Bartlein barrel. 175-ish rounds on it. I bought it used (safe queen bought 10 years ago from customer maker and hardly used) and I have only put 15 rounds on it. Original buyer had 160 rounds on it.

All of a sudden the bolt won't close on factory 140 ELD-M ammo. If I really force it, it will barely go, but it takes an insane amount of force. When I extract the round, there are marks all over the bullet (see pic at end).

My handloads are all 140-ELD-M. I made one just for grins with the same results. It will chamber and extract new or fired brass no issue, so the binding is definitely at the bullet. Remainder of the action is smooth. It runs fine with nothing in it obviously, and it ran factory ammo last week no issue. But this week not so much. Can't see anything obvious with the bore camera.

This is a new box of ammo...maybe these bullets are slightly larger? It will cycle factory federal 6.5CM ammo and leave only a light mark...

Is the solution to have a gunsmith just run the reamer in on a clean-up pass?

Pic of new bullet (right) and chambered/extracted bullet (left).

Excellent condition ATACR 4-16x42 with T3. I’m getting old and can’t deal with cluttered reticles anymore. Would love a straight up trade for a Mil-C, or potentially mil XT. This scope is in a Sphur, torqued to spec. I’m not going to unmount it to take pics, but I promise it is in great shape and working great.

SOLD AI M27 6.5CM Factory barrel

Factory AI M27 tenon 6.5CM from an AT, started life as a 24" barrel, chopped to be flush with my ATX handguard. Finish length now is 18" and some change. Under 300rds on this barrel. 5/8x24 threads.

Save yourself some math and finding a competent gunsmith to have the coolest ATX at the range.

AR15 magazine recommendations

I am interested in trying some 10 round magazines from manufacturers other than Magpul. They'll be running in Compass Lake lowers, if that makes any difference. Have had some trouble with Pmags recently (irregular feed lips) and would like to see what other options experienced shooters consider reliable. Metal, polymer, or mix, I have no biases about who makes them or how.

Appreciate any suggestions.

The "I'm having a great day" thread...

The world needs more positivity & I'm overflowing with it today.

I have my 1st brisket smoked & resting...

Food Ingredient Meat Beef Cooking

I'm hoping for the best but figured I made the 1st step in trying to master one of my favorite dishes. If it turns out well- wonderful. If not- well I'm infinitely smarter than I was just two days ago and that's half the battle right there.

I also bought some firearms that I've long lusted after. The deals being offered presently are just insane and I'm finally in a position that I can take advantage of these sales. So I'll have a "new gun(s) day" next week which always rocks my socks.

How about you- why are you having a great day?

Interesting trick I had luck with and thought I'd share with you scalawags

As a quick backstory: I was doing some amateur gunsmithing on my beautiful kitchen table working on a recent 1911 acquisition. Actually, the fruits of that effort can be found in this thread:

As I was channeling my inner Bill Wilson and making magic happen to my new pistol, my wife made a comment about putting a mat down to protect the table. I classically responded with something along the lines of "I'm not an idiot/I know what I'm doing".

Whelp- as you can foretell, my punch slipped while putting the guts in the mainspring housing (good lord there's a lot of tension stored in that spring) and I put a perfectly round dent in our beautiful maplewood kitchen table. Ok, ok- I put two perfectly round dent(s) in our beautiful maplewood kitchen table (but who's counting).

Naturally I was smart enough to act quickly and throw a new tablecloth on the the table after finishing my gunsmithing business but I was left with 'evidence' of my wife being right & apparently supporting that I am in fact an idiot.

So maybe this is common knowledge but I researched online for suggestions to 'fix' it. I came across a suggestion where I took a thick shop towel and folded it up after drenching it with scalding hot water and placing the towel directly over my... transgressions I'll call it. I then put a dry kitchen towel above it.

Well dang- that actually worked and helped raise the dents surprisingly well. It's not 100% but certainly made a measurable difference.

So wrapping things up here- if you find you accidentally proved your wife right and jacked up your table, maybe try the hot rag trick.

Autotricklet V4 mechanical reliability and customer service?

I was using a RCBS matchmaster and the large tube broke. So far, RCBS has been less than responsive about sending it in for repair, which makes me want to consider an alternative. How is the AutoTrickler V4's mechanical reliability and CS? By this I don't mean accuracy of charge weight, though that certainly matters. I mean how likely is it to break, and if it does how responsive/easy is the company about repair?

So someone finally points out that elected officials taking money from foreign agents is illegal

The people giving the money are spy’s at best

And the elected officials taking money and lavish trips from foreign agents is a crime at best and treason at worst .

As far as I can tell there is only one member of both house and that has never taken a $1 from AIPAC .
Green herself is a little late to the party but hopefully she doesn’t take any foreign money going forward . And I like that she called the practice what it is - illegal .

Don’t care if the issue is Gaza or what the fuck ever , US officials taking money and vacations from foreign agents and then those officials get to decide how much guns money or US troops those nations get has to end

Firearms Critter Killer/competition compact 223

Had this built a few years ago with intent of a compact Coyote/223 class competition rifle. This thingis insanely accurate and shockingly fast for a 17 inch barrel. Loves the 75 eld-m at 2930 fps. No pressure at that speed. Less than 400 rounds down the barrel, and I've kept a good log. Asking $3000 plus shipping for rifle and 100 pieces of Lapua brass. No scope or bipod, and I will not sell the barreled action or stock separately. Located near Ashland KY for a face to face sale, and I will also ship direct to your door if a resident of Ky. (Yes, thats legal for long guns in state)

Will sell with the Minox ZP5 with MR4 mil reticle and arc rings for $5200. Consider trades for collectible HK stuff, thermal scope with some warranty left, or partial for Desert tech SRSA2 barrels.

Long case length after firing

hi. Yes, I'm new here. I have a question that is not necessarily related to reloading but the folks here are probably the best equipped to answer intelligently.

I have two semi-auto 308 rifles. I recently shot a box of factory ammunition 10 rounds through each rifle. The brass length measures around 2.022 from one and 2.005 or less from the other. Both rifles are new, less than 200 rounds through each. I’m starting to believe that my first rifle is not properly chambered but I’m not certain what exactly is incorrect. Yes I understand that these are two separate rifles from different manufacturers and the chambers will be different. There aren’t any signs of excessive pressure on the brass or primers. I am reloading and I am not looking forward to trimming brass after each firing. Has anyone had a similar issue or know what may wrong with my first rifle?

Firearms FS: Custom Geissele 18" Cut SPR / SOLGW Broadsword Build.

Up for sale is a High End SPR Build I put together to review Geissele's new Cut Rifled Barrels.

I spared no expense on this custom build, every part has been carefully selected and tuned to perfection.

Every detail related to this build is listed in the below link.

https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...rt-4-load-development-28may25-update.7250369/

I would like to address post #61( load development.) You'll notice that many of my Sub Half MOA groups had random ass flyers, well I had a DUH!! moment and forgot to reinstall the neck bushing in my die....Oops

After it had dawned on me why I was having flyers I shot a quick 5x5 in post #70 to confirm.

Every detail and shot fired has been recorded in the thread, all the tedious and painstaking work is already done for it next owner.

I personally guarantee this Custom SPR to not only be one of the finest rifles you'll operate but to function 100% reliable, Suppressed and Unsuppressed and maintain Sub Half MOA with Black Hills 77gr OTM, MK262, and my Ramshot Tac Handloads of 23.8, 24.3 or 24.5

The rifle could easily pass as new, still in outstanding condition. Scope, Bipod and Muzzle device NOT included. If you're Suppressor is set up for Xeno I'll include the Muzzle Device.

For those who don't know, my wife has been battling Stage Four Brain Cancer for close to three years now and kicking it's ass!.

She is seriously the strongest woman I've ever known, serving our country for over 20 years and retiring as a Navy Senior Chief.

My wife has had 3 Glioblastoma removed and a fourth has returned that is inoperable, placing her on Hospice care.

Not sure what to expect at this point, so I'll be stepping back from conducting any new reviews or Custom builds. I have one last build to complete for @BurtG , his will be the last until further notice.

The ONLY reason Im explaining this to the Hide Community is because I know many of you would be wondering why in the hell I'm willing to let some of my most coveted high-end builds go.

It's not as money thing at all, just going on a shooting hiatus and hopefully somebody can enjoy these rifles as much as I did, I can always build more down the road.

If this one moves on I'll be listing a few more Custom builds from my stable that are just collecting dust or ones the I have several of.

Savage 110 Action Replacement

I recently put together an outlier custom rifle and I got a savage 110 for it and I really dislike the savage action. I have been learning on a ruger rpr, and compared to the ruger my savage action is really bad. Maybe it's just the one I got, but the eject is horrible and it feels loose, I really have to wrestle with it. Looking for suggestions for a replacement action. I've seen posts say zermatt has savage actions, I thought all the top name clones were all rem 700's. If you can link the exact action or the exact part UPC I should be looking for that would be very much appreciated.
