Gunsmithing Chamber (Throat) Finish, Poor Accuracy - See Pics

- 7 SAW I chamber (140gr VLD short throat), but he hand throated it for me to shoot the Berger 168's.
- 225 rounds fired, all Berger 168gr VLD
- Shoots 1.50"+ "gatherings" since new
- Powders used - H4350 and N555
- Proof TAC II stock
- Cleaned every 75 rounds, no brush, only pushed a jag and wet/dry patch, never pulled back accross the crown.

Based on these pics of the throat and crown, is this a realistic problem that would affect accurracy, or does this level of finish not matter?

Dear Snipers Hide constituents need advice.

So small background 10 years 11Bravo (Infantry), currently using my GIbill/voc rehab to become a pilot. In the meanwhile, I'm working security on a government contract. When we hire new people for the armed side my boss pay's a local shooting center to qualify them for weapons usually just a standard sidearm. I love all things firearm and teaching people. I was curious if it's a good idea or what the process is to become a certified firearms instructor. Everything I've googled points to the NRA for certifying official stuff. Once I finish my private pilot's license. Voc Rehab will pay for me to go to either Utah Valley University, or University of North Dakota (flight programs) Figured that might not be a bad side job once I get out of my current position either, but if I had the ability currently I could possibly get more pay doing what my boss pays another company. What are your opinions?

How to end up in a Qatar Prison or beheaded....

I guess 'poking the bear' is how some folks just need to live their lives.

How'd that end for that lesbian tranny pothead basketball... whatever it is? Enjoying the Gulag Archipelago for 9 years?

This guy is going to end up flying home with his head in a baggie if he'es not careful!

These people are not joking around... they will imprison you. And they will chop your %$#@ing head off. It's their country. They get to do that sort of thing if they want. And they definitely want!!!

Rifle Scopes MPVO for AR15/10

Greetings,

Long time lurker now having a desire to get into shooting an AR platform (both AR15 and AR10) past 100 yards. I joined a range in northeast NJ called Cherry Ridge, which goes out to 300 yards, and also have limited access to a friend's range going out to 600 yards. At some point, would like to get into something like 2/3 gun as well.

  • What is the platform for the scope? - AR15
  • What cartridge are you shooting? .223 / 5.56mm and .308 / 7.62x51mm
  • What is your intended use for the scope? Up to 600 yards range, hoping to get into competition
  • What type of conditions will you typically shoot in? Daylight, Lowlight, Nighttime, etc. or any combination thereof
  • What are the typical distances you intend to shoot? 300-600 yds, 100-300 yds, under 100 yds
  • Are there any specific specifications you would like? FFP, Parallax, MPVO, Light
  • What is the price range you can afford? Preferably below $1k, but up to $1.5k
Currently, the best scope I own is a Delta Stryker 1x6. Zero complaints with the scope, but I'd like something with more magnification, without as much focus on 1x. Something better suited to longer range, FFP, as light as possible but sturdy, low end magnification of 2-4 / high end magnification of 10-16, Xmas tree reticle with the reticle itself being usable on the low and high magnification and preferably illuminated. Seems to be a tall order. I may use an MRDS in conjunction with this scope.

Personally, I'd prefer non China, but if the offering hits what I'm looking for, I have zero problem with getting that optic (another of saying, please keep the politics out of this thread).

I've read a bunch of threads on this site and others and it seems there are a few offerings that come in at my price point. If there are other options, or options that are north of $1k, but less than $1.5k, please suggest them. Below are the options that I've come across that appeal to me. They all are a compromise in some way or another, but they seem to be in the general ballpark of what I'm looking for. Having zero experience with these, any detailed feedback on the pro's/con's of these offerings would be greatly appreciated. I do kinda question how "good" the $500'ish offerings are. Are they worth the money spent, or will I be falling victim to "I should have bought something more expensive but "better"" buy once, cry once? And yes, the keyboard commando in me wants something worthy of being durable enough to survive the zombie apocalypse. I'm envisioning the scope to be able to make quick hits out to 600 yards, but can also do more precision work as well.

US Optics TS 2-12 - $500'ish, 18oz, FFP but the reticle looks questionable for usage at low mag, and not illuminated. I love the form factor of this one

Athlon Helos Gen 2 2-12 - $500'ish, FFP, usable reticle at all mag's, on the heavier side of what i'm looking for at 25.4oz

Swampfox Kentucky Long 2-12 - $500'ish, usable reticle at all mag's, on the heavier side of what I'm looking for at 26oz

Arken ELP 4-16 - $400'ish, non Xmas tree type reticle, but the weight is decent at under 24oz

Primary Arms GLX 2-10 or 4-16 - $750'ish, with what my inexperienced self sees as the most optimal reticle for low/high mag, weight is decent at 22/23oz, however I've read the FOV isn't too great

Vortex PST Gen2 3-15 - I see this one referenced often, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to the current "standard" for this type of scope when found on deal at $600'ish. My only real gripe with this scope is the weight at 28oz

One offering that intrigues me, but is not FFP, nor does it have an Xmas tree reticle, is the Leupold Mk3 3-9. The weight is ridiculously low and it has Aimpoint type illumination.

I see there are decent offerings from Trijicon, such as the Credo 2-10, however, I do want parallax adjustment. Vortex has their 2.5-10 PST Gen2, but at 26oz, it's getting porky. Not sure what else is out there that is not noticeably heavy and has the feature set I'm looking for. I'm hoping the optics companies start producing something for this market, as from the various threads I've seen on this type of offering, there is definitely interest.

So again, for the scopes listed above, please provide some detailed feedback and comparisons if possible, as well as recommendations preferably under $1k, but up to $1.5k.

Greatly appreciated....

Accessories Vision Chassis, SA

Picked this up off "the hide" maybe 6 months ago, slightly used, excellent shape best I can tell. Rem 700 SA and Clones. Comes with a MDT grip (no vision grip) and LOP extension (non-folding, folder attachment is available for this on-line, GCP Rifle Co). I just elected to stay with my Manners PRS platforms for shooting. Comes with Weibad pad and weight kit as shown. 1200$ shipped. (only trade I'm interested in is a 223 receiver, Rem 700 platform/clone). There is also a Facebook page for Vision Products if you're into that thing.

Opening-Up Gas Port

I got an 18" SPR barrel from Craddock earlier this year that I had converted to an LMT quick-change barrel for use in an MLR. It shot really well but after a couple hundred rounds through it I realized that for this rifle application I would prefer it a bit shorter. So I had it cut back to 16" and now it's undergassed because, silly me, it's now a 16" barrel with a rifle length gas system and won't cycle reliably. I tried all of the obvious fixes like switching gas blocks, making sure everything was aligned properly, swapping gas tubes, played with an adjustable buffer, but it's never getting enough gas probably due to reduced dwell time.

Since this barrel shot lights out before getting cut down, I just don't want to give up on it, so now I'm looking at opening up the gas port a bit.

That's something I've never done and part of me thinks "how hard can it be?" Is this something I should be trying to do myself or should I send it out to someone who can do it correctly? Enquiring minds want to know.

Trigger pushing up on bolt

I have a new action (Remington 40x Ti and PTG bolt) that seems to be having an issue once I install a trigger.

Bolt close seems extremely rough when the trigger is installed, and it appears the bolt is being pushed upwards significantly. The rough feel is probably the bottom bolt lug against the receiver abutement.

I tried two different triggers and both exhibit this issue, although one slightly worse than the other. While functional, bolt close is quite rough and my fear is galling between steel bolt and titanium receiver.

Does anyone know of a solution? Would removing material from trigger disconnector help?

DIY Vise Fixture

I had this Magpul bipod mount and earlier today I was trying to figure out what to do with it. I didn't want to just drop it in a bin so I made a thing out of it for my vise.

Some scrap 1/4" aluminum angle, 10-32 tap, and voila....

20221121_192717.jpg

If I want I can secure a flat top upper, barreled action, anything picatinny, it doesn't seem like that will be a problem.

20221121_192832.jpg

Or I can throw an arca rail in there to secure a chassis, my scope mounting "jig", etc...

20221121_192804.jpg

I have some polymer vise blocks that slip into AICS magwells and AR vise blocks too but most my rifles have picatinny and/or arca interfaces on the underside. If I need to secure it to go hands free to mount an acessory or clean it, this seems like a more svelte solution.

Looking for a backyard range shooter

I got a 650 yard range in the backyard and have started reloading. Been shooting a POF ar style in 6.5cm but am looking for a bolt gun to step it up a little.

I’ve looked at the Savage, Ruger Precision models, but after reading threads would like to find a Bergara or Tikka chassis gun in 6.5cm.

I’ve been watching the classifieds here for a month or so, but what would be the best way to go as a starter in 6.5 creedmoor? I’ve almost pulled the trigger on a Ruger RPR, but would waiting on the right Tikka or Bergara be a better choice?
