Queen's Gambit

For those not familiar with the term, the Queen's Gambit is a term for an opening move in Chess.

Its a Netflix original and one of the best series/shows Ive ever watched. The story set in the late 1970's of a young American woman who starts playing chess with the janitor of the orphanage shes in and rises to become the world champion, beating the best Russia had,

The female lead is really great, reminds me of one of the old starlets like Betty Davis or Grable.

Highly recommended especially if you play chess.

Specific ZCO Comparison Question

Okay, so I've read pretty much every single 420 to 527 comparison I can find on multiple forums across the 'web, and none of them really seem to do a great job of explaining one particular thing.

When both scopes are compared side by side at an identical power through their overlapping range of 5x-20x, is there any meaningful difference between any of the typical subjective qualities like IQ, CA, or eye box?

It seems that every comparison I have found focuses on the obvious differences like size, weight, FoV, etc., or they make a comparison at min or max zoom which isn't apple to apples.

For context, I'm currently trying to decide what to put on top of an AI AT I recently purchased. It currently only has the factory 20" 308 barrel, but I plan to add a 24+" 6.5CM barrel in the future.

From our cousins up North, "The newest Liberal scandal just dropped"

"With SNC-Lavalin, the charge was that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office pressured his justice minister to unilaterally drop bribery charges against a Liberal-allied engineering firm. This time around, it’s that Trudeau’s public safety minister pressed RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki to “jeopardize” a mass-shooting investigation so that they could push a gun control package."

Say it ain't so:rolleyes::rolleyes:

NY CCW law held to be unconstitutional

For anyone following the litigation re: the NY CCW application requirements, SCOTUS just issued its opinion in Bruen.

The Court held: "New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense."

Barrett MRAD VS Berrett MK22 Accuracy

While its true, you cant always believe what you hear or read, it makes sense to me to take information from a variety of sources and come to a logical decision or opinion based on this. I've seen a seemingly credible person make the statement that the Berrett MRAD is not held to as high of standard, and therefore is not at accurate as a Berrett MK22 because it has more strict requirements to pass through. There is a particular video on youtube where the person has first hand experience, and claims its different animal.

Would anyone with some first hand knowledge of this be willing to share their thoughts or feelings on this?

M855A1 Accuracy and Velocity

M855A1 ammunition is manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant near Independence, Missouri. The lot of Lake City M855A1 ammunition that was evaluated for this article was manufactured in January of 2021. There were no malfunctions of any kind for this ammunition in any of the four barrels that were used in this evaluation.

M855A1 is packaged in kraft boxes with 30 rounds in each box. The rounds are on stripper clips with 10 rounds per clip.

m855a1_stripper_clip_001_resized-2426382.jpg

The M855A1 cartridge has a nominal over-all length of 2.250”. This over-all length gives the A1 projectile a jump of 0.132” to the lands of a Colt 5.56mm NATO chamber.

M855A1 is loaded in Lake City brass. The brass cases have the annealing iris still visible. The headstamp for this lot reads:”LC 21” along with the NATO cross. The case-head stamp exhibits the octal station identifiers used on Lake City SCAMP machinery. The primer pocket has four “stab” crimps and a minimal amount of sealant. The case mouth has a generous amount of asphalt sealant and is crimped into a cannelure on the bullet.

Lake City M855A1 ammunition is charged with the St. Marks Powder SMP-842, which is a flattened ball powder. Sampled powder charges had an average weight of 26.4 grains.

m855_powder_022-2423083.jpg

The M855A1 bullet is considered a 62 grain round, however, sampled bullets had an average weight of 62.6 grains. The M855A1 projectile is constructed from three different components; a solid copper core, an exposed steel penetrator and a reverse-drawn copper jacket that holds the other two components together. Since this bullet does not have a lead core, the only thing that fragments upon terminal impact is the copper jacket.

It has been reported that with early lots of M855A1, it was possible to “spin” the steel penetrator inside the copper jacket with your fingers. This was not the case with any of the current rounds that I sampled.

m855a1_projectile_components_003-2423082.jpg

The M855A1 projectile has a lower specific gravity than conventional lead-core, copper jacketed bullets and is significantly longer than the legacy M855 projectile. The A1 projectile has a nominal length of 1.00”. According to Ballistic Performance of Rifle Bullets by Bryan Litz the G1 ballistic coefficient of M855A1 is 0.291. The same reference states that M855A1 has a nominal gyroscopic stability factor of 1.41 when fired from a barrel with a 1:8" twist and 1.85 when fired from a barrel with a 1:7" twist.

Velocity

I chronographed the Lake City M855A1 ammunition from a semi-automatic AR-15 with a chrome-lined, NATO chambered, 20” Colt A4 barrel with a 1:7” twist.

colt_a4_barrel_004_resized_b-2426802.jpg

Chronographing was conducted using an Oehler 35-P chronograph with “proof screen” technology. The Oehler 35P chronograph is actually two chronographs in one package that takes two separate chronograph readings for each shot fired and then utilizes its onboard computer to analyze the data to determine if there is any statistically significant abnormality in the readings. If the readings are suspect, the chronograph “flags” the shot to let you know that the data is invalid. There was no invalid data flagged during this testing.

The velocities stated below are the muzzle velocities as calculated from the instrumental velocities using Oehler’s Ballistic Explorer software program. The strings of fire consisted of 10 rounds over the chronograph.

oehler_chronograph_32-1336391.jpg

oehler_computer_02-1336390.jpg

Each round was single-loaded and cycled into the chamber from a magazine fitted with a single-load follower. The bolt locked-back after each shot allowing the chamber to cool in between each shot. This technique was used to mitigate the possible influence of “chamber-soak” on velocity data. Each new shot was fired in a consistent manner after hitting the bolt release. Atmospheric conditions were monitored and recorded using a Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Tracker.

kestrel_4000_21-1336387.jpg

Atmospheric conditions

Temperature: 76 degrees F
Humidity: 47%
Barometric pressure: 30.09 inches of Hg
Elevation: 950 feet above sea level

The muzzle velocity for the 10-shot string of the Lake City M855A1 ammunition fired from the 20” Colt barrel was 3131 FPS with a standard deviation of 18 FPS and a coefficient of variation of 0.59%.

For those of you who might not be familiar with the coefficient of variation (CV), it is the standard deviation, divided by the mean (average) muzzle velocity and then multiplied by 100 and expressed as a percentage. It allows for the comparison of the uniformity of velocity between loads in different velocity spectrums; e.g. 77 grain loads running around 2,650 fps compared to 55 grain loads running around 3,250 fps.

For comparison, the mil-spec for M193 allows for a coefficient of variation of approximately 1.2%, while one of my best 77 grain OTM hand-loads, with a muzzle velocity of 2639 PFS and a standard deviation of 4 FPS, has a coefficient of variation of 0.15%.

stnadard_deviation_of_4_fps_01-1336393.jpg

I also chronographed the Lake City M855A1 ammunition from three different 14.5” barrels in the same manner as described above for the 20” Colt barrel. Chronographing of the 14.5” barrels was conducted immediately after the chronographing for the 20” barrel.

A 10-shot string of the Lake City M855A1 fired from a 14.5” Hodge Defense barrel had a muzzle velocity of 2939 FPS with a standard deviation of 23 FPS.

hodge_barrel_004-2277644.jpg

A 10-shot string of the M855A1 fired from a 14.5” Colt M4A1 SOCOM barrel had a muzzle velocity of 2949 FPS with a standard deviation of 17 FPS.

colt_m4a1_socom_barrel_040-2277643.jpg

A 10-shot string of the M855A1 fired from a 14.5” Bravo Company ELW barrel had a muzzle velocity of 2966 FPS with a standard deviation of 19 FPS.

bcm_elw_barrel_002-2426291.jpg

The muzzle velocities for the Lake City M855A1 are summarized in the table below.

m855a1_muzzle_velocities_002-2426796.jpg

For comparison, the next two tables show the muzzle velocities for legacy military 5.56mm ammunition that also uses 62 grain projectiles: M855 and MK318 Mod 0.

Uvalde Police Chief Placed on Administrative Leave

Uvalde Police Chief Pete Arredondo on Wednesday was placed on administrative leave effective immediately.

“The embattled police chief of the Texas school district where 19 children and two teachers were killed in a school shooting has been placed on administrative leave, the superintendent announced.” – ABC News reported.

Hal Harrell, superintendent of Uvalde CISD said Arredondo was placed on leave due to “lack of clarity that remains” in the probe into the police response to the deadly mass shooting at Robb Elementary School last month.

A few weeks ago it was reported the Uvalde Police Department and Uvalde School District were no longer cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety’s investigation into last month’s deadly mass shooting.

Last month 18-year-old Salvador Ramos fatally shot 19 children and 2 adults at Robb Elementary School.

According to multiple reports, the shooter, Salvador Ramos, spent more than 40 minutes inside as loved ones and onlookers begged the police to charge into the building.

Police arrived 4 minutes after the shooting began, but Ramos continued on with his killing spree virtually uninterrupted.

A report by the Austin American-Statesman shows Uvalde police were in the hallway of Robb Elementary School with rifles and at least one ballistic shield within ten minutes of the start of the mass shooting by Salvador Ramos.

On Tuesday, Texas of Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw admitted that the Uvalde Police and on-scene officers *NEVER* touched the door to see if it was locked UNTIL they breached!!

“We can never see anybody put their hand on the door of course up until the breached.”

Firearms Accuracy International laser rifle

For sale, real life laser blaster, well... might as well be a laser weapon of some sort, it's crazy accurate!

Ok, let's rewind a little. Unfortunately for me I must part with my most favorite rifle of all time. This baby is a litteral sex machine, when I take it out on a range day and pull it out of the caes, like magic, braws pop off of every attractive woman in attendence! There is scientific evidence that suggests that more babies are conceived on those days then any other day of the year. People come by and give the thumbs up, or comment on how they wish they could drive a beast such as this. It's a magical gun, and in the right hands it's a 1/4 MOA unicorn, with wings! In average hands and match ammo it still shoots 1/2 MOA, all day, every day, rain or shine. There are few factory rifles in the world that are as consistent or accurate as an Accuracy International, period!

At 900-1000 on a decent day with this amazingly smooth feeding machine, I can call headshot after headshot on a standard IPSC, that's the gun and not me. Load up some match 168 or 175 freedom pills and this baby will sing all the way to 1200 easily, and accurately! I have never tuned a load for it, I can guess you could easily tune for a consistent 1/4 MOA. I have target after target of clover leaf groups shot by this baby from factory ammo.

At this point, I have just too many precision guns, and sadly the family summer trip is not going to pay for itself, so something has to give. I am going to be bummed to see her go but hopefully it goes to the right home.

Purchased on the Hide years ago with two barrels, it had 250 rounds on the current barrel, and I have put nearly 850-900 on it so we would be looking at under 1200 total, barrel has tons of life left, and it's still shooting super fast. If you wanted to switch it out to another barrel, or caliber, an action wrench is included, easy 10-15 minute job.

Specs:

2013 Accuracy International AIAX short action, will accept 6mm, 260, 6.5, and 308 caliber AX, AT-X and AT barrels.
24" 308 barrel, getting 2855 FPS on 168 grain Australian Outback ammo
Duracoated German Army RAL8000, looks super slick, couple of little paint chips here and there but nothing distracting, she looks amazing!
Aftermarket AX target butt plate, vertical, and rotational adjustment
Awesome cheater adjustable butt spike
1x mags included in RAL8000
AAC suppressor ready .30 cal muzzle break
Harris Bipod with PodLock
Spare Hoptic cheek pad
Action wrench
Original Manual
Ultra Mega sex appeal!
Tons of horney women!

Pelican Case not included.
Please note: low ballers will be ignored, as well please no Nigerian Princes.

Gun bill being fast tracked through the senate....

As of right now they have 14 republicans willing to sign on to this bill that is being fast tracked through the senate. It’s 80 pages long. 6 of them have said they will agree to it unless there is public pushback. I didn’t catch the names but if you live in an area where these gents are, I suggest you contact them and tell them your disdain. Otherwise, this will likely pass.
