Night Vision Iray CML25 - The $2,400 Compact Thermal Clip-On. Will The Poors Rejoice?

In my ultimate poor man’s quest for a compact budget dual-purpose thermal clip-on (used for shorter distance viewing/shooting), I stumbled on the CML25. It’s a 384 Resolution (forgive me Horta, Beloved Saint of Thermal) Clip-on that can double as a handheld and helmet mounted monocular.

Posting this discussion simply because I haven’t heard anything about it here in the US, and would like to know if anyone here has used one. Also posting because I ordered one to mess with and will post results if anyone is interested.

I’ve owned a MH25 & Super Yoter, but am searching for a cheaper multipurpose option for use at shorter distances. The RH25 isn’t an option price-wise at the moment.

I also briefly owned a Flir Breach but was quite disappointed with its ability to detect. I’m hoping this will fill a role somewhere in the middle, but I don’t have any unrealistic expectations. It’s probably best used for shorter distance clip-on and handheld use. If 30mm mounting is an option (pictured below), then it already piques my interest as it could be pretty flexible as far as mounting height. Perhaps even QDed on and off a rifle using the Aimpoint twist off magnifier mount. We’ll see…

Photos and videos linked below (not mine, I won’t have it for a few weeks).

The Venerable 308 vs "New gen" ubiquitous 6.5 Creedmoor LR - ELR Shootout

In our last ELR weekend at The Arena in Blakely GA see thread here the 6.5 CreedMoor "club" was continuously gun shamed by some outsiders @Esoteric Junkie ++ stating even their 3....0.....GR8s (manly voice) will outshoot the 6.5 Creeeeeeedmooooor (made it sound like an old lady howling like a wolf) all day long even LR - ELR. We ( the 6.5CM "fanboy club") would have none of this and challenged the 3.....0.....GR8 crowd to a shoot-off, to once and for all, determine with presentable evidence, witnessed by an independent judge, the outcome of this shoot out.

Shaming has gone the other direction as well, read with 🍿 as there are a lot of keyboard jockeys out there with opinions. This might have been proven before, if so, this will be another data point. We will carefully determine the parameters of the challenge to extract the max from both.

Arken ep5...

Has there been any other ep5 that have had tracking issues. Got mine Saturday got it mounted today zeroed at 25 then moved to 100 for my final zero and it's not even on the paper. Bring it back to 25 and it's dead on my elevation from 25 to 100 is 1.6 and even if I don't adjust it still doesn't hit the paper. Everything on my rifle is torqued down and I know this is good load. When I adjust the turret the reticle moves. This is boggling my mind

SOLD FS/T: XLR Carbon Chassis - Tikka SA

- XLR Carbon Chassis
- Tikka short action inlet
- 15” carbon M-LOK handguard
- XLR Gen 2 folding adapter (w/ short buffer tube)
- Henderson 14” Arca rail
- UTG thumb rest (pretty cheap, will include a QD attachment if preferred)
- Ergo grip

Nice shape overall, some light marks from normal match use. A previous owner apparently decided to drill and tap a small hole on the left side near the rear of the chassis… it would be easy enough to put a screw in it but it never bothered me enough to try.

PRS Talk Practice/training stuffs you found especially useful

I had a great time at my first match recently. Im happy with my score and only 0’d the one I forgot to reset my turret which is a boneheaded mistake but one more easily fixed. My rifle had a failure to extract/eject that caused a debacle I had to clean out on every stage. It has since been fixed, so I’m excited to have an extra 30 seconds on every stage.

Aside from those obvious issues, I know wind got me on a few, so that’s something I need to improve on, which I guess is just picking shittier days to go to the range.

My range has a few barricades I’ve been practicing on, is it recommended to simply slow practice barricades to get used to them or should I be using a timer at this point? I tried to ignore the timer for my match and just slow and steady, so of course I timed out on pretty much every stage but I think it snagged me a few hits from concentrating.

This is a rambling mess so tldr if you could go back and were just starting prs what would you be practicing and how?

First Time AR15 Build - Please Help Me Not Be An Idiot

I don’t know anything about AR15’s but want to be ready to build one as soon as California is forced to get rid of their “assault weapons” regulations by the Bruen Decision. My plan is to start accumulating parts now rather than trying to buy them once the rules are changed and 10 million other California gun owners are all trying to buy the same parts I want.

I want a build that I can use for home defense, civil unrest, and training courses I intend to take. I want this gun to be absolutely reliable, but I am not interested in wasting money either. I am looking for a sanity check on my selections (“those two parts don’t work together you moron”) and any feedback on my choices.

Lower – LMT Mars-L (the only part I currently have)

Lower Parts Kit – LMT

Trigger – Hiperfire Hitouch Reflex or Geissele Hi-Speed National Match (DMR springs); The Hiperfire doesn’t have the reputation for reliability like Geissele but I have no experience with two-stage triggers.

Buffer Kit – no idea; does this even matter?

Grip – Magpul MOE K2

Stock – Magpul STR Carbine Stock Mil-Spec

Upper – BCM Mk2 or Vltor MUR; the BCM seems like it’s the new hotness, but it appears that BCM doesn’t sell these to the general public anymore. Is it worth waiting and hoping or just go for it and buy a Vltor when I can find it?

Handguard – KAC URX4 or Vseven; I think the KAC is probably bulletproof but am looking at Vseven for weight savings. Are either of these compatible with the BCM upper or will I need something else? I am assuming they work with the Vltor.

Barrel (16 inch) – FN HF, Noveske N4, or Criterion Core. Leaning towards Noveske because the profile and it weighs less than the FN and the Criterion is at least a 6 month wait (I believe that all the barrels are made by FN). Really looking for feedback here as I expect this is where accuracy is made or broken. Is 1.5 MOA a reasonable expectation for accuracy with decent factory ammo or progressively reloaded ammo? If necessary, I have the time to wait while Compass Lake cuts me a SS barrel.

Gas Tube – no idea if this even matters

Gas Block – Vseven titanium; If I go with pinned (and not clamped) will I need to have someone modify my barrel?

Bolt Carrier Group – Bootleg Adjustable Bolt Carrier or Rubber City Armory Standard Mass 5.56 x 45(223) M16 BCG Complete w/ Adjustable Gas Key. I have no idea if one is better or worse than the other. I am looking at these because my hope is that eventually I will be able to use a suppressor but wanted a non-adjustable gas block for reliability.

Charging Handle – PRI M-84 Gasbuster with combat latch

Muzzle Device – Hellfire linear flash suppressor

I will be hitting up the optics forum for help with the optic, mounts, and BUIS. At some point I will also start a thread on things I will need for tools (cleaning, maintenance, etc.).

Thanks for reading this.

Texas gun buyback

So today Fort Worth Texas had a police operated gun buyback program. Lol

My son went out there and bought guns before they went inside to turn them in.

Look for the Hawaiian shirt.
