Are we out-of-love with "underslung" bipods?

Are we out-of-love with "underslung" / apex-over-bore bipods?

Seems like on podcasts circa two years ago, all the recommendations were for having the bipod apex over bore.

Then came the Ckye-pod, taken up by the comp guys, and the TBAC bipod, adopted by the cool guys who didn't want to look like the comp guys. ;)

I get that the Elite Iron is a beast and mostly good for prone.

But there's almost no discussion of the Tier One Evolution bipod, for example.

Have we foresaken the benefits of "underslung" bipods for the two new cool bipods on the block?

Or did apex-over-bore not matter as much as people thought it first did?

Or is everyone who wants apex-over-bore just using Atlas CALs? (I admit I find them ugly and their list of options does my bear-of-little-brain head in ...)

Or am I just missing something entirely here?

Firearms M40A1 with lots of cool extras !BIG AND FINAL PRICE DROP . LAST CHANCE AT 6K

Here is what some consider to be the "holy grail" of sniper rifles! The rifle was built at Texas brigade armory by Mike Lau with all the correct parts to include.....
U.S stamped 6 digit 27xxxx clip slotted action
Parts all stamped with last digits as they should be
Real unertl scope base
Schneider 7.62 marked barrel
McMillan htg sniper fill with last 4 digits written in forend and correct bottom metal and bedded of course.
Wichita swivels with 2 slings mrt86 and another new armscor leather sling.
Unertl mst100 10x t0268 glass is really nice and scope functions as it should with all manuals and instructions .
I have all the scope tools and a ton of different as well as a brand new buttplate, scope caps, cleaning kit with marbles rod, a tube data book and lots of other hard to find manuals for the optic and rifle.
I absolutely love this rifle ! It is a friggin hammer and a joy to own and shoot once in while ! The rifle is all correct and has been inspected by a a former 2112 as well as a few school trained guys on this rifle system. There have been many offers of some sort but I just like the rifle and always just said "na man".
Well here she is .....
I would like to get $7500 for everything and I believe the some of what is here is well worth that. Round count is 287 and will include the little impact book as well. Feel free to call or text me with any questions as I will probably be able to respond quickly.

Another 20 million barrels from SPR gone

Fucking Bidet.
He's dumping another 20 million barrels from the strategic oil reserve.

That there is some fucked up shit.

Multi-purpose platform - DTA?

Okay, I want some thoughts on this.

I have a .300NM that I love, I just don't get to shoot it much and really stretch it out where I live. I love the cartridge, would love to have a barrel in that cartridge, but with how limited it gets shot I'm unsure if having a dedicated rifle for it makes much sense.

I'm also getting into hunting. Don't currently have the funds to build a dedicated hunting rifle (not to my spoiled standards), so I've compromised and purchased an 18" 3B contour barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor. For hunting, I will place that Mausingfield barreled action into a KRG Bravo to save weight. Not a perfect scenario, but can't build up a dedicated rifle so it will do for now.

This has me thinking - why not consolidate the two rifles that don't get used as much as my other rifles? The only platform that I'm aware of that could do this and still maintain *somewhat* of a reasonable weight for hunting is the DTA. It's been a while since I've handled a DTA, but I didn't mind it (didn't shoot it though). The ergos are quirky with the bullpup, and I know the mags aren't the best. But this solution allows me to turn two rifles into one, which makes sense given my economic situation.

Would love to hear thoughts from the crowd on this. The DTA system seems to have lots of detractors, and a small and very loyal fan base. There's lots of nuances to it, people love it or hate it.

Is my idea a good one, or is it stupid?

Rimfire scopes and specific questions

I'm looking for a scope to stick on my new CZ 22. Area 419 30 moa rail should be here in a couple hours, so I think any low rings I want should clear just fine with a 50-56mm objective. Is that right?

I was primarily looking at the strike eagle but saw that once the zero stop is installed the travel is limited. Anyone have a strike eagle on a 30 moa rail sword at 50 yards? Does it even need a zero stop or will it be in the first revolution anyway?

Also interested in the midas tac 5-25, but can't find anything about limiting up travel once the zero stop is in. Big Jim seemed to think it was a good compromise on everything.

I've got mostly vortex and athlon glass, so I've mostly been looking at those, but I'm open to pretty much anything. Trying to stay in the $6-800 range with the following features.

34mm tube for elevation adjustment
5-25 ish power: 5-30, 4-24, whatever
Don't give a damn about illumination
2/10 mil tree reticle, 5/10 mil in a pinch
Locking/capped windage would be cool
10 mils per rotation
Short parallax minimum, 15-25 yards

Obviously this is not going to be fantastic glass, but its only gonna go to 300 or so seriously. Longer stuff will be just for fuckery

Where's My Working Dog Guys At?

OK, so I know that what I am after is not likely to be available, but I've never been afraid to ask a silly question... I'm fairly sure we have some folks who are in the know about professional working (protection) dogs here on the site. I know that these dogs are the product of years of love, blood, sweat, and tears from their breeders/trainers. This post is not intended to show any disrespect towards nor devalue those efforts.

I am simply not in a place to spend tens of thousands of dollars for a "varsity' canine. So, the question is - are there JV dogs out there that would suffice for me and my family. I understand that many times these dogs retire and their handler assumes ownership, but are there retired dogs that would, perhaps, work for me? I'm looking for a protective companion for my wife and two girls. Someone to go running with them, and accompany them on solo hikes, etc.

Any wisdom from the 'Hide is appreciated.

And in this week's episode of controlled opposition...

I have wondered what this piece of shit is up to, now we know. Seemingly committing political suicide with her off Broadway performance of DJT Syndrome, Part II - Political Theater for the Criminally Retarded. It seems she has bigger plans. I guess the real money in politics is in campaign funds. Maybe she is the new sacrificial lamb, like McStain, the newest media darling. Maybe Kinzinger can be her running mate. She can peg him from coast to coast.

So I was researching sheriffs stations......

I'm in Socal. L.A. County. I was at gunshop over the weekend and was talking to the owner and he said getting a ccw is not that hard anymore in Cali. We are now shall issue supposedly. So I was reading reviews of sheriffs stations cause i did not want to run into a dick. Saw a review bitching about a deputy and supposedly a video of said deputy and why he should be fired. Hmmm so I google the dudes name and what pops up is his salary  So I did a little more digging and this came up.....

Go ahead and click there are much higher salaries.....is this the norm?

Suppressors Its a bird, its a plane....oh, no...its my F'ing suppressor

May this serve as a cautionary lesson to you folks even though this sad little tale does not reflect at all well on my intelligence. LOL

I had just got my suppressor out of jail after 13 months. It’s an Ultra 7 in 6.5mm. And yes, this is the first suppressor I have owned (or used) in my 70 years of life.

I take the fairly new gun (Altus BA in a JAE) and suppressor to the range today to check zero, eye relief, comb height from prone position as we will be in PA soon for a four day SH clinic with Frank/Marc, blah, blah, blah.

I’m a bit distracted by some other fellas while screwing on my Ultra 7 and didn’t notice that underneath the suppressor the Rifles Only cover’s retention lanyard had gotten between the suppressor and the Area 419 uni adapter shoulder. It didn’t help that it was 104F out (real feel…and yeah, it felt real) and I was shvitzing like a fat man in a Russian bath house. It didn’t seem like the U-7 screwed on enough turns but I took the 419 wrench and gave it a tug, it seemed to be tight. So I dropped down and sent the first shot.

Well, I immediately heard a very loud report, felt a lot of muzzle blast, looked up and there was no suppressor on the end of my gun.

I shot it down range.

I thought surely I would find it laying on the grass maybe 3-4 yards down range, maximum. It wasn’t there.

This is a 10 bench only range with a berm and 10 backers at 100 yds at the same elevation as the shooting positions and a smaller berm with 5 backers at 50 yards which is maybe 10-12 feet lower than the shooting position/100 yard berm elevation. So, not seeing my suppressor I kept walking toward my 100 yard target on the far left of the range. And kept walking and looking…walking and looking…walking all the way along my POA to my 100 yard target and still no suppressor!! I spent 45 minutes looking everywhere and nada. WTF.

By this point I’m really sweating bullets and panicking a bit….I have to find this NFA item. One, because I def don’t want to do the dance with ATF again on a new suppressor (and yeah, the $1K is a factor there also) and two, because someone will be mowing that grass and eventually find the can…with their blades. No bueno, that. So, I called up to the shotgun range house where my good friend @GBMaryland was RO for the day. And another fella showed up to shoot and was nice enough to help us look…well, since we were downrange and not leaving until we found the suppressor, he really didn’t have much of a choice but he really was quite willing to be helpful and I appreciated it very much

The three of us looked for it for at least an hour; utterly baffled as to why we STILL couldn’t find it on fairly recently mowed grass square range. And, as part of this we did indeed look along the side of the higher vegetation around the sides of the range, sides of the berms, etc., figuring perhaps that thing really did roll all the way downhill to the low point at the 50 yard line and was stopped by vegetation.

The result…..no talley, no joy, no suppressor. 🤯🤬

I’m looking at my search party and can tell that their motivation had waned significantly and they were about to bag it. So, I took one more trip down range toward my 100 yard target and as I’m passing some high vegetation on the left end of the 50 yard berm, on a whim I started kicking and stirring a couple of feet back from the edge and voila’….I finally found it….50 yards down range in some high weeds!! 50 yards in the air. It didn’t roll there…it was in the middle of a patch of high weeds. It FLEW there.

Now, the terrain drops maybe 10-12 feet to the 50 yard line where I found it so it was a minimum of 35 yards total of actual flight path (can’t believe I’m writing flight path and suppressors in the same paragraph LOL).

And, an Ultra-7 with a 419 Hellfire mount weighs 9 7/8 oz. And it flew at least 35 yards horizontal.

Examining it at the range, it looked like I was lucky and just grazed one baffle…so I looked down the bore, it looked all lined up still, there were no cracks or bulges in the tube at all, so I shot a few more rounds with no issues. But, when I got home I put a Teslong bore scope in there and yep…struck every baffle and a bit of the end cap. Very small chips taken out…but nonetheless. So, I took pics, reached out to TBAC on a Sunday evening with my figuring that they will see it the next morning when they come in. Well, TBAC has GREAT customer focus and @Zak Smith replied to me that night and in his opinion the suppressor is fine and will function perfectly….just don’t do it again (sigh..haha). In discussion with TBAC, if I did want it repaired, it would essentially be an almost all new suppressor just with the serial numbered tube retained (and maybe some other bits…but mostly a fork lift upgrade).

Below are five pictures of the baffles going from muzzle end to pic 5 being the end cap. And I hope this little story of woe was at least mildly interesting.
