2 out of 10 rounds ~50FPS off

I'm trying to resolve/identify why 1 or 2 rounds out of a 10 round string would absolutely trash an otherwise great SD/ES for my .308. Using a Magnetospeed v3.

Heres my data from two 10-round strings:

String 1
SD: 24
ES: 79
String 2:
SD: 19
ES: 60

2 rounds in both strings were WAY off, one much faster, one much slower.
If I remove those two from the math, I'm damn near single digit SDs and ESs below 20.

Here are my components:
  • Alpha Brass (once fired, and annealed)
  • Federal match primers
  • Sierra matchkings
  • RL15
  • neck tension: .0025-.003.
  • Primer pockets uniformed and flash-holes deburred.
  • .015 jump
I'm using an RCBS chargemaster lite. I have always had a hunch that its the problem. So what I did was weigh all my primed cases, record. Then throw the powder, weigh the case plus the powder, and then see if the scale was at least consistent. Seemed so... However, this does nothing to check the precision of the scale.

What is the likelihood that its simply the margin of error of my scale? its not the most top-of-the-line, and since it says +/- .1gr, I would think that could make a significant impact...

I have been told to try different primers, perhaps CCI BR... Can a primer really make a 50 FPS difference?

What else could it be?

Spotters I have to admit, Swarovski makes damn fine spotting glass!

I’ve been using my Hensoldt Spotter 45 with Tremor4 Reticle, but damned if my 95mm Swaro BTX — with 1.7x TC installed — doesn’t get me substantially closer to the target. Sure, the complete lack of a reticle sucks a bit, and seems to be an area where Swaro could make etched 1.7x TC’s with different reticle options, since they’re not that expensive.

Anywho, even with the TC installed, it is still critically sharp with minimal CA. I suck something awful at TTL photos, and my new iPhone 13 Pro Max Blah Blah Blah makes it even more difficult, but I managed to haphazardly snap a couple of modestly representative TTL pix — zero post processing, Parkinsons Shake and frustrations galore, so there’s some motion blur, but even with that, you get the idea.

In my position, how would you handle giving a two week notice?

I had a thread running here, roughly a month ago concerning my occupational exposure to fiberglass insulation. Most replies consisted of “run now” and “contact OSHA asap”.

I contacted OSHA, and the employer bullshitted their way around the claim stating that they have done in-house testing and no protective equipment was needed, yada yada. Quitting immediately without anything lined up just wasn’t an option, as I couldn’t survive the financial hit.

I never furthered the issue, because I have already checked out of the job mentally. I have discussed the issue with co-workers and I’m left with not much more than a shrug. Hey, the saying goes “You can lead a horse to water….”

Thankfully, I’ve landed another gig that is very promising, but it’s an overnight shift which sucks (7pm-7am). My effective start date is the 31st of this month. I would like to leave my current job with grace (as much as they disregard employee health) as best I can. I just no longer have any interest in going back another day.

Coming home covered in glass fibers, bringing them into your vehicle & home isn’t much of interest to me any longer. I have been with this employer for four years now, and aside from all of this I greatly respect the relationships I have built with the people I work with.

How would all of y’all go about resigning in grace, given my situation?

I appreciate any and all suggestions, just please keep them appropriate to the situation. Thanks.

Investing/Stocks

With all the threads about retiring, the bug to start investing/playing the stock market has its teeth in me.

I’m in my lower 30’s, and want to start something of a nest egg so one day I can retire and not worry about things. This is one area I know nothing.

The wife has us on a Dave Ramsey plan to be debt free in so many years, but I also think investments are a big part of it.

So where do I start, and how the hell do you play stocks? Baby steps for now.

Trumps slow burn on covid nazis

I think he should have handled it different at the start, more freedom and less hysteria, you’re grown you choose, however thank god for the judges he got in place, as I recall he got more in that most POTUS and most of his picks (minus anti 4A and pro statist Brett) have been damn good constitutional picks.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. judge in Texas issued a nationwide injunction on Friday barring the federal government from enforcing President Joe Biden's requirement that federal workers without qualifying medical or religious exemptions be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Judge Jeffrey Brown, who was appointed to the District Court for the Southern District of Texas by then-President Donald Trump, ruled that opponents of Biden's vaccination mandate for federal employees were likely to succeed at trial and blocked the government from enforcing the requirement.

Biden announced in September that more than 3.5 million federal workers were required to undergo vaccination, with no option to get regularly tested instead, unless they secured approved medical or religious exemptions. The requirement kicked in in November, when the White House said more than 95% of federal workers were in compliance with the Biden mandate either by being vaccinated or by having requested an exemption — and 92% were vaccinated.

Those out of compliance with the policy were referred to counseling and could be terminated under an executive order signed by Biden.

Brown wrote that at issue was whether the president "can, with the stroke of a pen and without the input of Congress, require millions of federal employees to undergo a medical procedure as a condition of their employment." He added, “That, under the current state of the law as just recently expressed by the Supreme Court, is a bridge too far."

The Justice Department said it would appeal the ruling.

The suit was brought by the group Feds for Medical Freedom.”

Pressure to resize new brass VS once shot

I reloaded some 6.5 Creedmoor with a a short action expander mandrel. I used new Lapua brass with Imperial sizing lube. The resizing process with the new brass was very smooth.

I annealed my once shot brass after cleaning with corn cob media. The pressure and required lube to resize are much greater than sizing new brass. I noticed the inside of the neck was dark and not shiny like the new brass. So the question is this normal. Thank you for any input.

Dumb 22 questions (sorry/thanks!)

I have been offered a position shooting pest control (squirrels and rabbits) on a golf course next to my house and I'm using it as an excuse to build a new 22lr.

I have a 10-22 in an ATI tac looking stock which I don't think would look too good to be wandering around a golf course with, and I wouldn't mind tightening up the accuracy a notch or two if I'm hunting with it. It would be nice if I use the new gun as a trainer for centrefire shooting too.

Is this just a case of "any bolt action gun in OK condition will do that"? I quite like the look of the sako synthetics, but wondered if I should be looking at CZ or someone similar. Will I notice a heavy barrel in terms of performance?

Has anyone ever seen this in a new AR chrome lined barrel?

I may be over reacting to these bore scope images but has anyone ever seen anything like this in a new AR chrome lined barrel? The streaks can be seen in many places mid-bore. The picture of the “chip” was taken in the chamber.

I‘ve heard bore scopes can give us undue concern about the inside of our barrels but this barrel was fairly expensive and brought brand new through a respectable company. The images were taken the night of delivery. After my initial look-see I pushed an oiled patch down the tube to see if it was some kind of dirt/grime/grease. A little dark carbon like residue came out on the patch but that didn’t seem to remove any of the streaks. I’ll try copper remover after I get some feedback and discuss this with the selle.

Anyone ever seen this? Anyone know what these streaks are?
(Please don’t just respond - No problem, just shoot the shit out of it unless you’ve seen this in a new barrel and can tell me what these marks are)

Retirement looms on the near horizon.......

Retirement, the option to be done with it is a mere 12-18 months away. So the question is, do you call it done or grind it out until 65-67 and leave with more money and less health? I could literally bank another $500,000 if I stayed six more years. The problem is this job is tough on you, it is all weather, all hours and all the time, overtime, it is not six years of sitting in an office 9 to 5.

In 12 short months the National Guard will start paying me a nice healthy check every month along with medical insurance for life. Combined with my retirement from a previous civilian job that I had for twenty years my staying at home income is pretty solid. Everything is paid for, houses, trucks, cars, camper and I carry no debt on credit cards. Six months after the guard checks start rolling in, I can retire from my current job with yet another smallish pension at 62. After 62, there is social security as well. So, even if I called it done in 12 months, my income has two more nice increases coming in the next few years so life would still get better. My take home will actually increase once work is done.

While I am apparently well off and make more money than 97% of America, I apparently make less money than 99% of the fuckers on the internet. I'm the only guy on the internet not riding in my private jet to box seats at every NFL game. I'm expecting Biden and his fucktard administration to screw up the stock market before they leave office and everything will take a 10-20% hit for a few years, I can weather that just fine as well. It's already accounted for in the master plan. I'm at the, "Holy shit, I may have actually done this", stage.

It's getting awful close to time to call it done and go hunting, shooting, camping and driving my sports car full time. I'm nervous, this scheme has been more than forty years in the making. I have plenty to do to entertain myself in retirement and I'm sure between kids, grandkids and interesting things to do boredom will not be a problem.

Would you keep working or be done as soon as possible?

For those of you who are retired. How did it feel to finally pull the trigger and be done, to have every day as your own?

Firearms WTS/WTT Pre Ban HK91 - *Withdrwan*

I am looking to get back into long range so it’s time to move some stuff that’s been sitting in the safe. I have a pre ban HK91 with a HK date code (1979) and a collapsible stock. It will come with six 20rd mags as well. It is in very good condition with just a few handling marks and very little wear internally. This is a great collector piece that is usable as well. I am asking $3800 shipped for it but feel free to make me a reasonable offer. I am open to trades as well.

Possible trades:
Custom/semi custom comp rifles with or with optics. (Prefer 6mm but open to others)
Mid to high end scopes
Rifle components suck as actions, chasis/stocks, barrels.
Various other long range gear
