Long action with 7SAUM/280AI/284 Winchester?

I'm considering a move to long action, as I'd like a little more velocity out of the 7mm I'm building, but I'm not wanting to go to 28 Nosler levels at this point in time. I realize an XM action would be a better fit, but with the lack of magazine options, and spotty stock options (I love my MDT HNT26, but XM is apparently not on the table currently, as is the case with a lot of stocks - SA/LA are easy to come by) I'm considering a LA.

I know there are better fits for LA such as 28 Nosler/300 PRC, but I'm not going for extreme velocity (and associated recoil). This will be in a lightweight rifle, so I'm not looking to destroy my shoulder, especially as I'll be practicing at the range quite frequently with it. XM length seems perfect, but only MDT makes magazines, and finding stocks is such a disaster, I'm not sure I want to risk it.

Are there any major downsides to running things like 7SAUM/280AI/284 Winchester/6.5PRC/etc on a long action, aside from the ounce or two of additional weight and slightly longer bolt stroke? I'm concerned about magazine feeding with the cartridges being in the 3.1-3.3" COAL range.

Typical Commissary discount meat fuckery.

Being a retiree, and living close to a military base I buy a lot of meat from the commissary. But I honestly don't know why.

Ours has 3-4 deep freeze boxes full of frozen discounted meat. Most of the time if you buy something from there and defrost it will be fine. Most of the time. Usually these boxes represent a 30-60% discount. Rib eyes are my favorite cut of steak and I regularly buy two packs for $6-8 in there. A defrost, and a dry brine and they are exceptional.

Every Christmas season lamb is completely overstocked at the commissary. This year they had lamb racks for $60. They looked good, but I didn't buy one. Then I noticed a few days ago the same lamb racks frozen in the deep freeze boxes. $11-13 each. Massive discount.

So I bought 5 of them and defrosted them.

I cut them into individual chops.

Sprinkled "herbs de provence" (rosemary, thyme, and some other shit) on them.

A little dried garlic.

Salt and pepper and put them in the oven on grill racks at 300 F for 30 minutes.

Pulled them and put them on a really hot bbq briquette fire and put a sear on them.

They tasted amazing. As lamb chops cooked this way are among the best things on the planet.

Until last night when I shit my brains out for 3 hours, then did the same thing again this morning.

The next time you are the commissary and you see a box of frozen meat that is highly discounted, do yourself a favor keep walking.

Italian Mafia boss tracked down/arrested via Google Street View after 20 yrs on the run

Had fled Italy 20 years ago and established a total new identity as chef & local fruits/veg store owner. Police finally traced him to living somewhere in Spain… and then was eventually id’d via Google Maps street view.

That’s some pretty damn tenacious investigation.

Of course he coulda just been ratted out, and they’re protecting their informant? Who knows..

All The Best Rick

Maggie’s steak test

I did an experiment earlier this year.

I bought 4 steaks from Walmart all New York Strips. 1 Bison, 1 Walmart Wagyu, 1 Prime and 1 grass-fed.

Cooked all of them the same; reverse sear finish on the BBQ to get the crust. Finished at medium rare.

Seasoned with salt and pepper.

My thoughts:

Flavor
1 Wagyu (had a very different flavor than the prime steak)
2 Grass-fed tie for 2nd
2 Bison tie for 2nd
4 Prime (I realize this is subjective, as a lot of people like the feedlot corn flavored prime).

Tenderness
1 Wagyu
2 Prime
3 Grass-fed
4 Bison

Starting charge weight

image.jpg
Looking for a starting charge weight for a Remington 700 .223

I have 2 pounds N133 to start off with

image.jpg
image.jpg

It looks to be a flat based bullet, 50 grains. The bottom is not flat it is actually a little concave

My Lee manual is stating 24.1 gr starting load max 25.9
My Hornaday manual is stating 19.8 gr starting load and 23.7 max

Can someone with more experience than me double check that info

Beep beep da beep. All the news that isn’t the news

On the international front, our president is ready to send troops to the Ukraine and getting us into another needless war (reference: Iraq) However, this war will involve Russia and that could spell a world war with some rather serious implications. Plus, getting involved in the Western Hemisphere leaves China free to invade Taiwan which would be a real loss to the world. This is what happens when you hire bozo the clown to run the most powerful nation in the world.

We have more than sufficient issues on the home front to be worrying about Europes problems, which in a way mr. president brought on by sanctioning the Gas pipeline into Western Europe from Russian. This made Western Europe dependent on Russia for much of their energy needs and thereby made them something of a client state. Sad state brought on by a very sad, very poorly acting individual sitting in the White House. (When he is not hiding in his basement in Delaware.

Mr. Bozo, please tell us how starting World War III is going to help you resolve your lack of popularity in the polls.
