Leupold Mark 5HD Owners - Question

What are the turrets "supposed to be like" on the Leupold Mark 5HD? Do the tick marks perfectly align? Does each click correspond directly with tick marks on the elevation knob being directly aligned to the reference mark on the scope tube (i.e., you don't have to spin one click past your destination and go back to get alignment)?

I want to make sure my expectations of a $2,200 MSRP scope aren't... out of line.

Story:
I just received my second Leupold Mark 5HD. The first one delivered to me had a bad turret that wouldn't unlock (without a lot of force) and would only turn just shy of one revolution before getting stuck again on the lock. The tick marks on said elevation turret were also very misaligned -- in fact the entire turret structure below the elevation turret was slightly off vs the reference mark on the tube. I contacted Leupold, they said they'll warranty it. Fine... except I have to be without my brand new scope for (according to them) about 6 weeks. I mean shit happens and Leupold's staff was nice and give me an 2-day shipping label there but... the next 6 weeks for me is the most time I'll have all year to go shooting so I asked the reseller... exchange? Thankfully, after a bit of a "debate", the reseller exchanged it.

Welp... received the new one today. The elevation turret on this one is kind of loose feeling. The tick marks are again misaligned vs. the reference mark on the tube. This time less so... that is until you get to about where the 6 MIL tick is and then the alignment is just completely off. On top of that, when I turn the dial, I have to manually place the elevation knob's tick mark in alignment with the reference mark when I reach my destination (it's like... a gummy feeling turret) -- they don't just line up, you kind of have to go one click past your end point and return once in order to get the tick marks lined up properly.

My Nikon FX1000 is better than this and it cost me 1/4 the price. Most of my hunting scopes are Sightrons... the tick marks line up perfectly all the way around the dial.

Is this how Mark 5HDs are? Or am I just riddled with bad luck here?

Ghetto blasting during robbery

Ring camera catches hood rats trying to rob hood rat woman of her ghetto dogs. The lady in question apparently raises some kind of mini-pitbull, perfect for thug ladies to carry in their purse or something. She puts them for sale on hoodrat.com, facebook market place or some other web site designed for selling stolen property.

Thugs see dogs for sale and call, then arrange to stop by to meet the owner and arrive armed and blasting to get their "free" puppy. Seller grabs an AR pistol and steps off blastin like a mofo and popping caps an shit. All on Ring camera.

As you can see training is wayyyyyyyyy over rated, so it aiming.............................man fuck all that aimin and shit just blass off muh fucka and let dem fly. Apparently, after review cops arrested her as well, probably for felon in possession of a firearm.

Snorkeling With The Cool Kids,

So many of ya'll, talk and show off about your balmy tropics, and/or winter travels to places where you and your kids go snorkeling in the Gulf, and whatnot.

Then there are the other Cool Kids who've got the snorkel kit and 'special wires' for their vehicle to go traversing through the rivers and such.

But you know that you've really made it, when you see the prudence in needing not one, but TWO snorkels on your house. Because of 'Winter' and 'winds' and 'drifting snow' and such.

This/these truly DO make the difference between "warm and cozy" and "cold and drafty".

And from the side, for perspective:

Why would the plumber/builder do this...

I'm renovating my kitchen. Ripped out the cabinets and discovered a mild moldy spot on the drywall near the floor. After ripping it all off I found a singe cold water PEX line that feeds water to the master toilet on the 2nd floor. Turns out the kitchen cabinet installers drilled a screw right through the pipe so it has been slowly leaking since the house was built. That's patched now.

I'm confused as to why they ran a single line from the crawl space on the outside wall to the toilet on a 2nd floor? There is also an interior wall right next to it that could have fed the line up under the floor. I'm concerned about gaining access to it in the future should something happen after installing a massive marble backsplash.

I'm leaning towards running a new line from the crawl space through the interior wall, but once I start ripping out the tub it may be easier to borrow from that cold line. Any reason I should do pick one solution over the other? Are toilets supposed to have a dedicated line from the crawl space?

Drones for personal use

Im thinking of getting a drone to film us on ATV rides. Anyone have experience with them? My budget is between 1k-2k. I know some have a function that will follow you around based on facial recognition. But obviously if im in my Side by Side, that option wont work. But what about vehicle recognition?

So will I need to have someone always piloting this thing while im driving? What options do you guys suggest?

Accessories PSA: Watch out! Possible WTB scammer Jacobzx

I have two WTB listing up in the PX and @Jacobzx responded to BOTH within 10 minutes of each other with the exact same message.

Too many red-flags to count that suggest this is a scammer (joined recently, responding to WTB as first action, poor punctuation, copy+paste text, etc.)

I have already "Reported" both to to Hide.

If I am wrong and @Jacobzx is a legitimate user trying to help a brother out, then I sincerely apologize for putting you on blast like this.

But easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.....amiright? 🤷‍♂️

ATF admits to having firearm registration DB with over 920 million records

Looks like all of those 4473s that dealers have to turn in prior to closing shop were put into a massive database. 850 million of the records have been digitized. ATF says they use the database to "help" law enforcement, but then go on to say they have no idea how useful the information they provide is. I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

Dillon progressive purchase advice needed

About to pull the trigger on a Dillon progressive reloader. I am reloading for semi-auto rifles (except for the 9mm which is handgun only). I've read through dozens of threads and found these particularly useful so yes, I've done some reading/research:

I am reloading for the following and already have dies for them:
-9mm
-300 Blackout
-5.56
-.308

Because I want to reload in bulk for 9mm, and I have use for large and small primers with the rifle rounds, I’m considering the XL750 over the 550. I’ve even considered just getting the 550 basic, perhaps even two of them. My goal is to eliminate the massive time suck I’ve created in reloading for the semi-auto rifles. It’s not unusual for me to reload 500 at a time over the course of a few days.

I am aiming for practical precision and hunting, not shooting out to 1,000 yards out of a bolt gun (yet). I’ll keep my single stage if I really need to be precise and work up to that on the Dillon.

Here’s my current process for rifle using an RCBS single stage press.
-Short wet tumble with stainless media
-Dry in dehumidifier
-Decap with universal decapping die
-Swage with a Dillon Super Swage 600 when needed (I use a lot of Lake City brass)
-Ream and unify when I really want to torture myself. Otherwise just a quick ream on an RCBS to make the primers go in easier
-Anneal
-Lube and full length resize using Hornady custom grade dies
-Set neck tension with Century 21 mandrel
-Trim to length if needed on a Giraud
-Longer wet tumble with stainless media
-Dry in dehumidifier
-Prime with Franklin hand-held
-Measure powder with either an RCBS Chargemaster 1500 or use an RCBS thrower or Lee thrower depending on powders used and if load is developed.
-Seat bullet with a Hornady seater and micrometer
-Crimp in separate step with a Redding crimp die

This has worked well for me in terms of the quality I’ve been able to produce. I know I could likely do an initial longer tumble and forget about cleaning primer pockets. I may go that route. I haven’t really looked but are there rifle full length resizing dies with a primer punch but without the neck expander ball? That’d eliminate a separate step right there.

I currently use the following powders with the caliber in parenthesis:
-H335 (5.56)
-Benchmark (5.56)
-IMR 4064 (7.62)
-Varget (7.62)
-CFE Blk (300 Blackout)
-Lil Gun (300 Blackout)
-H110 (300 Blackout)
-VV N120 (300 Blackout)
-VV N340 (9mm)
-Alliant Sport Pistol (9mm)

I get really good results with the Lee thrower and the extruded powders like Varget. Anything that’s ball, non-extruded, goes through the RCBS thrower although I have not tried all the powders above through the RCBS or Lee throwers just yet. I will likely simplify my powders and stick to one for each cartridge if I’m able but like the flexibility depending on availability.

**I am going to separate brass processing and reloading into two different steps on the Dillon.**

**I almost never load more than one caliber in a “session”. I may load up say 300 .308 cartridges with a single stage and will move on to something else at a later time. So setup time isn’t a major factor but it is a factor.

One quick question, when ordering the XL750 from Dillon, you must specify a cartridge. Is there any advantage in ordering one over another? My most pressing needs (I see what you did there) are 300 blackout and 9mm.

I don’t want to go overboard with add ons that I may not make a difference based on my practical accuracy requirement. I don’t have an unlimited budget and want to keep it smart. I may try out the Dillon products first and want to keep my dies preset. If they don’t work for me, I’ll look towards the aftermarket, toolheads not included. With that said, here’s what I’d like to order from Dillon;
-XL750 basic kit
-Extra primer tubes for small/large
-Caliper conversion kits for the other three cartridges
-Powder dies (3) so I can swap over the powder measure between tool heads
-Bullet tray
-Possibly the RT1500 trimmer, short trim toolhead and rapid trim size/trim die

I am willing to make mods/adjustments to the powder drop system (polish everything) and the priming system which I know can also be a hangup. I'm also willing to move the powder measuring step off-press if need be.

Aftermarket in no particular order;
-Inline Fab locator pin tabs
-Inline Fab Ultramount
-Inline Fab ERGO roller lever
-Uniquetek powder tube baffle
-Uniwquetek Powder bar micrometer (assuming I just need one if swapping out the powder measure
-Uniquetek powder measure quick change, QD Tab
-Billet tool heads, possibly floating die variety like Armanov, for each caliber
-Shellplate bearing kit (like Hit Factor) which’ll come in hand with 300BLK supers especially
-Possibly the Area 419 master funnel kit if I’m dropping manually
-KMS LED light kit

What else might I need to swap the powder system from tool head to tool head easily? I’ll eventually add more but would like to save a few $$$ initially by moving it from toolhead to toolhead.

Anything else that might be absolutely necessary? I’m sure I’ve left some stuff out as there’s a lot to consider and you don’t always know what you don’t know until you’re hands on.

ATF asks judge to close the Hunter Biden gun inquiry

Just when you thought the ATF couldn't be more despicable. They no longer even try and hide how corrupt they are. It's more like they're saying "Yeah, we're a criminal organization working for a crime family in the White House. You want to get on our short list and have us come pay you a pre-dawn visit?"
