Remington M700 6.5 Creedmore opinions.

I’ve had a weatherby vanguard 6.5 Creedmoor for a while and while it is serviceable as a hunting rifle, it just doesn’t hold tight groups as I would prefer. I’m not able to drop the big bucks on high end precision rifles so I kept my eyes open for a possible replacement. Not too concerned about looking pristine as long as the bore is fine and it hopefully shoots as desired.
So, I bid on and won this REM Model 700 that hopefully will fit the bill. The exterior has expected usage marks but they say it has an 24” threaded heavy target barrel with excellent bright bore. I’m hoping this will lend to better accuracy than the thinner vanguard barrel. I expect with the heavy barrel and laminated stock the entire package will be a good bit heavier than the vanguard with its tapered barrel and synthetic stock.
Though the matte grey phosphate finish isn’t perfect on this rifle, I would think it’s finished would be ideal for taking a future Cerakote or Duracoat spray finish of choice, if I ever decide it is necessary.

As Remington 700’s go, are there any opinions on this particular make and model, good or bad? Please share!! Did I do good?
Rifle should arrive Tuesday for better pictures.

SOLD Swarovski SLC 15x56 Binos

selling only, sorry no trades.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

for sale:
USED pair of Swarovski SLC 15x56 binoculars.

these have had plenty of match use for the last few years and show the regular signs of use.

the issue that needs to be taken into account is the right side objective bell.
at a match the arca clamp came loose and when moving the tripod the binos fell off and impacted the concrete.
there was damage to the rubberized housing and a slight dent on the end of the aluminum barrel.( see detailed pics)
there was zero harm done to the glass or any other functionality.
my choice was to send them swaro to get fixed at my cost or just run them as is....i chose the latter and installed hard flip up caps for added protection.(the aftermarket caps are not included, just the factory rubber covers)
other than the obvious flaw and general use, all the glass is perfect, no scratches or blemishes and they function as they should.

binos come with original box, paperwork, case, straps, etc...........

$1250 shipped conus.
pp, pmo, venmo accepted(if using pp please pay FF or add any additional fees

if additional shipping insurance is desired that will be the responsibility of the buyer.
package will ship via UPS with signature confirmation. if you wants to use another carrier let me know....but i take zero responsibility if you choose USPS

send me a pm if you wish to purchase, then post in this ad that you will take them

thanks and if you need additional information or pictures feel free to ask.

Question about carbine length vs mid length

Assume all else the same - you have 2 uppers, one is carbine length gas system, one is mid length, 16 inch barrels in 5.56.

If you wanted to use one on a close quarters AR build with a red dot, and one on more of a medium distance range toy with an LPVO, would you have any preference as to which rifle got which upper? Either one perform any better for longer distances vs close quarters?

The AI Arctic Warfare Picture Thread

This thread is for AW's (AWSM, AWM, AW50, etc.) ONLY.

Lets keep chatter to a minimum here. Take it to the general AI thread to converse.

(Note: SH either lost or deleted the previous thread after yesterday's site maintenance *sigh*. So this is going to be take #2. I reached out to SH support to see if we can get that one back but they have not said anything.)

Hard Bolt Close for Shorter OAL

Hi all,

I'm putting together some reloads for 6.5 CM with FL-sized Hornady brass, shoulder bumped .001, using 144 Berger LRHTs, and I'm experiencing an odd situation where my reloads have a very tight bolt close, the Box version of 144 LRHTs closes easily, and most of my measurements for my reload are *shorter* than the box ammo. Note: I'm seating .050 off the lands according to the Hornady OAL tool.

Reload:

OAL = 2.781
BTO = 2.097
Base to Shoulder = 2.570

LRHT box ammo:

OAL = 2.812
BTO = 2.145
Base to Shoulder = 2.560

So my reload is shorter OAL-wise, shorter BTO, but .010 longer base to shoulder - why is the reload tight on bolt close but the factory round isn't? Is it purely that I didn't bump my shoulder back far enough? Is .001 not enough?

Tripod Suggestions

I’d like to ask for tripod suggestions. My son and I are into rimfire, I’m a little longer in the tooth so I won’t be jumping around from stage to stage. My current need would be for scope mounting, cleaning and mostly working on our HEAVY set up’s. I would like to use it at the range from time to time, weight isn’t a huge issue.

I get buy once cry once but I really don’t see spending 1500 or more for my current needs. I’m currently looking at Leofoto and Fatboy ( fat boy is really more than I’d like to spend) . Leofoto is currently running a pretty good Shot Show sale. I understand they are China company knocking off RRS products.

I’d rather have an overkill set up. I’d really appreciate some recommendations.

I’m looking for a set of higher powered binos for PRS spotting. I’m trying to stay around 2k on budget. I know the 14’s pures are the best but it’s not in the budget. Between these binos what would you choose?

Wet Mounting Scope Mounts - Where It All Started

I figure since Hakan did a video interview about it, maybe it’s time to bring all the testing to the light.

In a nutshell, I experienced a scope zero shift in 2015 from the rifle falling over in the hotel room at the Hide Cup. When i returned home and started testing to find the origin of the shift issue we had the first round of NF Atacr 5-25’s at the time and just had switched from our Schmidt PMII’s. What started as a test with a couple mounts on the range turned into an international effort across over a dozen companies. Some companies provided mounts for testing, others got involved in the testing, many different brands and types of optics were tested, various platforms, literally barrels were burnt out just doing the testing over the next 2 years. In the end all parties found no design fix to the inherent shift in the pic rail design. Spoiler: It can be reduced or almost totally mitigated by greasing the rail. Early on when I thought the scopes may be the issue, I spent a whole day at the S&B US Service center with Jerry Ricker absolutely beating up scopes, guns and mounts testing on the collimator and determined the optics weren’t the problem (that and Ryan Brandt from Big Dog Steel decided to JB Weld his scope into his rings and still had shift). Interesting note; a drop of a rifle from hip height on the scope yields consistent .2-.4 mil shift while a ‘dead blow’ on the objective yields up to 2.3 mils with some mounts. Once the shift occurs, you can retorque the mount cross bolts or hit the chassis of the rifle with a hammer and the shock will center the mount back to its zero position.

I found out greasing the rail fixes the issue by grabbing a set of brand new Badger rings out of the package covered in grease and was tired of prepping mounts so I slapped em on greasy and figured if they held zero I would remount them after a full cleaning. Well, sure enough they didn’t shift. So I said that’s it, I’m running Marty’s rings going forward. Pulled them, cleaned and remounted them. I decided to confirm the install and retested since I couldn’t believe everything shifts .9-2.3mils and these guys didn’t shift at all. Whelp, they shifted when retested and the only thing I did was degrease them. Further testing of all previous mounts greased yielded varying amounts of shift to no shift at all confirming the observation. During these tests, it became apparent overtouquing mounts made the issue worse. So make sure to torque only to mfg specs.

Also tested were oversized Pic Rails, polished pic rails, varying coatings on pic rails, from steel to aluminum. Even other types of rail designs were looked at, such as euro dovetail on AI and Sako rifles, those shifted as well.

Another interesting note is that we never saw scopes shift in any ring set we tried when mounted properly. That’s saying something since we literally were beating up 4x4 blocks with scopes and rolling rifles off the backs of truck for drop testing.

ETA: this is all about an observed windage shift. The number of recoil lugs or cross bolts made no difference. The grease prevents the mount from ‘sticking’ off center and allows it to find its center. The idea is, the mount will shift side to side when impacted, with a deadened blow there is a lack of residual vibration to keep the mount moving until it recenters and that’s why a by violent drop has 1/3 or less the shift of a deadened blow of the hand or a dead blow hammer tapped against the left or right side of the objective.

Scammers

Usually I wouldn’t do this however today I’m feeling generous. Anyway to actually catch this bastard? I commented on a post, and he texted me shortly afterwards. I know it’s probably a waste of time but man I hate these guys. I have a few resources but it’s honestly going to be above my pay grade in the end. Anybody have any suggestions?

Pitting in the chamber, did I do it?

IMG_4050.jpeg

Video of the bore camera footage.
Login to view embedded media
This is my PRS barrel it’s a Bartlein and I’m sure it’s something I did and not the barrel. I’m looking to isolate so I don’t do it again. Barrel has about 1k rounds on it shot a few matches. For the most part I clean after shooting. Recently switched to Thoro clean. Prior to was using Iosso Triple action and bore paste, accompanied with wipe out patch out. I don’t think it’s the Thoro clean, but it is a newer product. Once I’m done cleaning I run a patch of alcohol followed by a few dry patches.

If I only fire a few rounds 30 or less I won’t clean, or if I’m using it for hunting predators on my property I’ll leave it fouled only taken a shot once a week or two weeks.

Im wondering if my last hunt caused it. It was about 20degrees out and I was out with my rifle for about 2hours. I brought the rifle and all my gear back into my 68 degree house. I am thinking condensation in the barrel then sitting for a week and a half may be the culprit.
I discovered after going to load a round and take a shot. I had trouble closing the bolt but then it closed. After firing the round I had a super sticky bolt. I took a video of the bore camera images. Did some before and after a very light cleaning. Pitting looked way worse prior to cleaning. I thought a chunk was missing.
I reached out to gun smith. He asked how the brass looked and it was fine. So I’m going to shoot a few rounds to see how it is.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
