Lot Testing in Georgia

Had a great afternoon getting my Bergara H1-4R lot tested at Whidden Gunworks.

I had an appointment last Friday, 5-17-2024 to lot test my Bergara H-14R. We drove down to their shop from North Augusta and had a 1:30 PM appointment. We arrived a little early. The folks at Whidden GunWorks welcomed us in and led to the testing range. Jeremy and Lamar were running the test and explained the process. There are two very substantial test fixtures and associated target/data systems that allow two tests to be run simultaneously. Another gentleman was there to get his Voodoo run through the Eley test and I was there to get the Lapua/SK/Norma ammunition series. Both test are very through and include 50 and 100 meter data.

Both Jeremy and Lamar are shooters, took exceptional care of our rifles, and throughly explained the testing as well an analyses of the results. I was happy to find a lot of CenterX that shot better than the Midas+ I had managed to buy recently.

I highly recommend getting your rifles lot tested at Whidden Gunworks, they are great folks and do a great job. I have been a customer of their centerfire loading tools and ammunition and it was a pleasure to meet them in person.

The Three Boxes of American Freedom

I got a surprise this morning while doing a search that proves to me how the internet is being manipulated to change history.

I've been around for a long time, will be 70 in a couple of months. Early on I learned about "The Three Boxes of Freedom". To my understanding, those had always been three and in a specific order: 1) The Soap Box (Freedom of Speech), 2) The Ballot Box, (Right to elect our government) and 3) The Ammo Box (The Right to bear arms).

Well now there are a number of different "boxes"out there and some places like Wikipedia  have four.

Now most all insert a Jury Box. They either add it making four boxes or replace the Soap Box. This smells of "Lawfare"...

How did you learn this and when?

22ARC 62GR ELD-VT IS NO ONE RELOADING FOR THIS

Come on guys and gals is no one reloading for this I have a proof 20in 22 arc that shoots the factory 62gr eldvt rounds great but I want to reload for this. I have 300 once fired 22 arc cases now but the load data on hornady book isn’t enough for me. I have tried cfe223 getting the velocity same as the factory round but I’m getting plunger marks primer isn’t flat but I have never loaded for a ar15 so I’m not 100% when to stop any help will b great thanks in advance

A&D Scale Upgrade -Buy or Wait?

Hello. Newbie reloader. I’m currently using an RCBS 304 scale, but thinking about an upgrade to digital. I’m finding to get loads accurate to 1/10th of a grain I need to really finesse the balance beam scale. The eye strain gets to you…

Here’s the rub. I can’t afford a magnetic force restoration scale. I’m loading maybe 200 rounds per year tops, so I’m keeping my equipment simple.

I’m eyeballing the A&D EJ-120, since $200 is more in my price range. What’s your thoughts on a simple strain scale? Is it going to drift enough during a load session to cause either safety issues (off by a grain) or accuracy issues (off by a tenth of a grain).

With my low volume loading I don’t need auto trickling. I’d be fine checking the scale with a weight every 5 or 10 loads to make sure it hasn’t drifted. I do want good accuracy though. If a $200 digital strain scale can’t be trusted, even if you check it every 5-10 loads, I’m probably better off sticking with my balance beam.

Barrel overheating

Running a proof 223 barrel (bolt action). Heading to a shooting class which states a high volume of fire (relatively speaking) for a precision rifle course.

Do I have to be concerned about overheating a 223 match rifle (heavy Palma)? What’s about my limit before I need to be concerned?

I’ve done about 35 rounds before in 25 minutes, and the barrel was getting hot to the touch.
