Why use a chronograph if I’m going to true anyway?

I’m still learning my way through getting my inputs squared away knowing how each factor affects the others.

Aside from load development and getting data on a load’s SD, what ultimate purpose does a chronograph serve if I always true the MV in my kestrel to reality?

For example, I went to the range this weekend. I’m shooting factory loads, 6.5CM shooting a 140 ELD-M. My chrono gives an average of 2710 fps and my kestrel gave the solution of 8.55 MILs at 960 yards. However reality called for needing only ~8.4 MILs so the kestrel MV calculator changed the MV to 2747.

Why bother to use the chrono if my MV calculator is just going to override that number anyway? I’m using a BC of .296. I see a lot of talk of tweaking the BC vs the MV but I’ve never felt smart enough to do that. Using the calculated MV I was consistently getting hits out to 1000 yards so in the end I suppose everything was lined up, but I just don’t like it when numbers don’t match.

Scope Rings Excessively Tall?

Can I get a sanity check? I feel like this scope looks goofy with how high it sits but this is my first chassis rifle.

These are 1.5” NF rings for this 30mm tube 42mm objective scope. My adjustable check piece is only one click up from being bottomed out (has 6-7 more click up) so I doubt I’d be able to get away with much lower rings from an eye alignment perspective but maybe I’m missing something?

Francis Scott Key bridge in Maryland struck by cargo ship - collapses

Pretty dramatic collapse. I honestly don’t suspect anything nefarious…other than laziness and/or ineptitude, but this really sucks from a variety of angles, as mass casualty events are by definition I suppose.

Not the least of which is that Uncle Potato will definitely bail out his voter base and put all American taxpayers on the hook for a replacement. At least it’s $$ not going to Ukraine, or to study the sexual proclivities of central asian frogs or some other such nonsense.

SOLD MPA BA COMP chassis with full weight sets $700 shipped

Rem700 SA and clones. Bought used from another member but going a different direction with my rifle even though this is an incredibly comfortable chassis. Full front weight kit, rear weight kit, NV mount yet one screw insert seems finicky. Gunmetal silver color. Some wear and tear marks but nothing that affects it shooting wise.

Image shows the full rifle but only the items describe above are for sale. Thanks! Can send more images if needed.

$700 TYD with tracking

Rifle Scopes Razor Gen3 6-36x56 on a AR15

I ordered up a Gen3 6-36x56 razor to use on my AR15. Based on the reading I've done, and the experimentation with the scope calculator I'm going to need a cantilever mount thats 1.5" high with 20moa built in. I suppose the easy button would be the vortex Scope Base. But I am also looking at; Arken mount, Seekins (its to short I think), and Warne. I really don't want QD or the big exposed nuts. One of the things I like about the Arken mount is the base clamp runs the full lenght of the mount not just 2 or 3 little clamping claws. But I'm not sure if it makes a difference? Another thing I am concerned about is will they even fit around the turret core of the optic and have room to adjust it?

Ammo Bulk Hornady 6.5CM ELD Match, 260Rem Sierra 142 Match

I'm focusing on my 308s for now and no longer need my 260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor ELD Match Ammo.

I've got 600 Rounds of each match ammunition, most bought in 100-200 round lots. I'll do $1.50/round on the Hornady 140gr ELD Match. I'll do $1.75/round on the Sierra 142SMK Match. I only ship ammo through UPS so I'll get real shipping for you once I know the size of the order, and will ship this week.

600 Rounds of Hornady 6.5CM + misc 5 boxes is $900 + shipping.

600 rounds of Sierra 260Rem is $1050 + actual shipping.

Keep an eye out as I've got a bunch of Varget, H4350, primers, brass, and bullets to unload as well.

Someone set me straight on barrels

I had to rush and buy a AR-10 last year before a law took effect and got myself an Aero M5E1 18" in .308 because I could not find or afford something better.

It came with a BA 18" 4150 CMV heavy profile barrel. I still have not taken the gun out to the range to try it. While fondling the gun and playing with it I decided that I don't like the balance of the rifle and the weight of the barrel. Its 52.5oz. This led me to start researching and looking at different lighter barrels. Then I started looking at other threads on the accuracy of BA barrels and started wondering if I should get something better. I am currently looking at a Criterion 18" Hybrid barrel. The barrel has to be .750 journal size and rifle length gas so that I can reuse the existing gas block and tube.

My primary goals are to reduce the weight, the Criterion is 12oz lighter, and improve accuracy to something like a DMR vs just a battle rifle. So my question is this. Having never shot the rifle am I being dumb in wanting something better? The gun is already at 14lbs+ with scope.

A thread on another site pertaining to poster`s musical preferences got me to wondering as to the age ranges on some of my favorite sites that concentrate on subjects that interest me. I thought perhaps others might be interested in the age distribution of posters on SH.
