Took my rifle out for it's first outing this year - AAC 6.5mm 140gr SMK

A long time ago - it feels that way anyway - lol, I bought some 6.5mm 140gr SMK by AAC off PSA.com. Thing that appealed to me was that it was $20 for 20 rounds. That's a helluva deal when Hornady ELD-M 140gr is approaching $55 for 20. Being in Wyoming, finding a good time to go out and drive the 2.5hrs one-way to the closest range that shoot out to 1000yds or more is difficult, especially when ammo isn't cheap and neither is gas.

Today, I decided to get the rifle out of the closet and go shoot some sighting-in rounds with the new ammo at the local 100yd indoor range. A lot cheaper to go the range when you've already bought the ammo. LOL

Grabbed two targets just to see how things would go. Brought 60rds with me, but ended up just shooting 40. Didn't need to blow through my stash just yet, especially with spring just around the corner here. Maybe I'll get down to Laramie to the range sooner than I expected.

Here's the album - https://flickr.com/photos/cybrslydr/albums/72177720315487376

All were shot with a bipod, no bag. Forgot to bring it and actually, still need to buy me a tater tot...

I'm very happy with how the AAC ammo shot. For it's price, it shoots just as well as the vastly more expensive Hornady or other brands. So much so, I went home and bought 4 more boxes at $21.99 each.

A couple of the 5-shot groups I knew I pulled and had a flier as soon as I shot. I tried to take about 5min between groups to let the barrel cool down a bit, but the last two groups I just shot back-to-back since they were the final ones. First pic with the center target was getting the rifle sighted in. Next was top right, top left, bottom left, and bottom right. The bottom right group is my best of the day, IMHO. So bummed I pulled that one - that's one that I knew I pulled as soon as the gun went bang. So frustrating! lol

SOLD Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 Mil-XT

Hey all! First sale post for me here on the forum, so please feel free to ask for whatever verification or additional photos/info/whatever you need from me to feel comfortable doing business. I have a good amount of feedback on TacSwap as well.

I am looking to sell my very lightly used NX8 2.5-20 with the Mil-XT reticle.

This was bought new from and mounted by Mile High Shooting last year. Since then, I've put maybe 200 rounds on it. No issues, excellent glass, really great optic, I'm just going a different direction with the rifle this was intended for. I am looking for $1675 for the optic. I can include the Geissele 20MOA mount it is pictured with for $1800. It will ship in the original Nightforce box with all accessories it came with, including Nightforce flip-up lens caps.

Price includes insured shipping via either UPS or USPS, buyers preference.

Build me out of the Production Div

I’ve spent the last week researching production division minded rifles and reading through the forums here. The general consensus from all of my fellow degenerates is that most if not all big brand production rifles (DD, Seekins, Aero, etc) are not up to par. The second consensus is that the MPA and GAP are the best within that division. The third is that building a rifle in open class can be done with a very similar or better price point, and better performance.

It’s time to put your money where your mouth is and figure out the build!
So here’s my challenge boys and girls.
Put a build list in your reply for a full build minus glass, bipods, and bag and include prices.
Requirements as follows:

1) Build must be no more than $3000

2) Build must have a sub MOA capability, preferably 1/2 MOA (gunsmithing permitting of course)

3)Chassis/stock must include adjustable ergonomics (the more the better)

4) Accessories required include an ARCA rail, quality muzzle brake, and 20MOA rail

Bonus points for price saved and extra (useful) features.

BUILD ONE YOUD WANT TO SHOOT!

Not a real competition with prizes. Just figured it would be interesting to see what everyone comes up with and a quality waste of time for some of the more experienced members that could prove useful to the newer ones!

Are these threads cut properly?

After a 7 month ordeal, that was supposed to take 10-12 weeks, I received my 6 ARC barrel from Compass Lake Engineering. Haven't put it together yet, as work stuff has kept me busy. Went to mock up my muzzle device to see how much timing it needed. Muzzle device will thread on properly and seat on the shoulder, as it has an inside relief cut before the threads start, but the peel washer that thunderbeast sent me with my muzzle device won't seat on the shoulder,as the OD of the barrel at the end of the threads is too large.

One of the 2nd amendments blood enemies actually gets it, or says she does

Tulsi Gabbard has in the past been one of our true enemies in the 2nd Amendment community, during her stint in congress she was an outright opponent and simply a gun grabber. Now she’s actually one of the few supporters that will actually say out loud what the one of the 2nd amendment’s purpose really is, to defend the people against the government if need be. I’m obviously suspect about such a 180, but she seems to be positioning herself to be Trump’s running mate. Her logic on why she had this revelation is sound, if the last 4 years didn’t show you the threat of government tyranny nothing short of tanks rolling down the street will. I’ve always been on board with allot of her views, now that the most important one to me is checked I think I’m ok with her being Trump’s pick, and considering she’s a natural fighter and very likable it could prove to be a wise choice. I am hoping it is a true conversion and not just positioning, but considering her long history of government distrust I’m hopeful, besides it’s a definite plus Hillary Clinton hates her with the power of a thousand suns.

Dovetail to Picatinny base

I just recently picked up a Rossi Gallery pump .22lr. I can't get it to shoot better that 5 1/2" high with the factory Buckhorn sight. I was only shooting at 25 yards. It has the rimfire dovetail groove on top of the receiver. Rossi makes a plastic picatinny base that will fit it but I would rather get a metal base over the plastic. Does anyone know of a metal dovetail to picatinny base for a rimfire rifle?

Question about 13.9in vs 14.5in

Regarding ARs, when otherwise identical carbines in 13.9in and 14.5in are pinned and welded to meet the 16in minimum, does that mean the difference is only in the length of the muzzle device installed? And if that's the case, what's the benefit, other than the 13.9in model possibly offering .6in shorter overall rifle length with a suppressor attached (when compared to the 14.5in with same suppressor)? thanks

ETA: I realize the 14.5in will offer a bit more velocity.

Why is my lapua 223 brass not chambering and sizing?

Ok, so I just had this 223 wylde built and running into issues with lapua brass. I e always taken virgin case measurements before loading, and then fired measurements. I didn't have a problem with the starline brass, but noticed it closed pretty tight to begin with. With the virgin lapua, it's .002"-.003" longer than starline, and it chambers, but it's very tight and you can feel its just to tight, and too long and it's fucking my case heads up, obviously because I'm trying to cram it into a smaller chamber than what the case is...I've never ran into this issue before.

The guy who built my rifle said he cuts chambers tight, like the bolt just barely closes on a go/no gauge. OK fine, it's whatever but when it's so tight that new lapua brass won't even chamber without messing case heads up, I think that's a problem, no? He told me just to size the virgin lapua cases down a couple few thousands and all would be good. I've never heard a such a thing. But tonight I tried just that and this is where I'm having issues.

I sat here for 2 hours trying to size this new lapua brass down to 3.614" on my comparator. My RCBS dies are only setting them back to 3.616" which is still .001" longer than the chamber. It is sizing the starline down to 3.614" to where it chamber nice and tight, but it won't size then down any further than that. It's like my die is only sizing each fired and new case .001" and thats it, no matter how far I screw it down.

Reason my measurements are also so long is because I'm not using digital calipers a d able to zero out, so the comparator measures 2.160" at zero basically on my dial calipers.

I've screwed my die so far down now to the point where it's so cammed over I can't go anymore and the damn case still comes out at 3.616"...

Does anyone know what the hell my issue is here? I'm already over this for the night. Ready to throw rifle and brass out the window...

Here's all my measurements for the guys who care to know and maybe see what the issue is.

These RCBS FL dies have worked fine and sized other brass in other 223 rifles with zero issues. I literally have no idea what the issue could be.

Do I need the chamber cut few thousands deeper, new dies, or what? Super frustrated at this point and it's to late to call the smith, and he has a match tomorrow, so I won't even be able to get ahold of him until tomorrow evening. There goes my plans of shooting tomorrow also...
