Recommend another Caliber (Target/Handloads)

Hey guys,

I’m wildly itchy to add another rifle to the collection. I exclusively bench rest target shoot, hunting for tight groups. I reload and really enjoy it.

Currently I have the following rifles and was hoping you guys could recommend a caliber that would make sense to the collection (keeping in mind I would like to reload)

Currently Rifles:

Tikka T1X - honestly lol, I love it. I got lucky and mine loves CCI SV. Basically free to run.

Tikka T3X Varmint Stainless in .223 - tack driver with 55g VMax in front of 26.1g of CFE223.

Tikka T3X CTR 24” 6.5 Creedmoor - the most impressive of them all. Consistently group .3 MOA at 100 yards with a handload.

I’m at a loss for a caliber that makes sense to fill in the gap between the 223 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Something that has bullets, cases and powder fairly readily available and doesn’t want to blow my shoulder off. I can only reach out to 300yards at my local range. I’ve even considered some obscure calibers like .22 Hornet…. But think a larger caliber is more the direction I want to go. Maybe? Haha. I don’t know.

Thanks guys, appreciate your help

Classic example of what is wrong with 'news'

Don't get me wrong... I like Breitbart. They tell stories that MSM won't.

But they are no different from the uber leftist socialist journalists, in reality. Trying to sell clicks and get eyeballs and maximize their bottom line.

Here's the 'gem' that caught my eye this morning:

Ok folks... it's Indonesia. They are a nation of 250 million spread over thousands of islands... Their GNP per capita is somthing like $4500. Most of that going to a tiny fraction of the population... median household income is something like $800 a year. 13000 children are born a day and of those... 220 will die as infants. They are losing 9 kids an hour from disease and poor conditions.

Don't even get started on rampant malaria, smallpox, cancer, industrial accidents, chemical exposure, getting eaten by sharks, ringworm, VD and Alec Baldwin (ok, I made that last one up)

But WTF... it's FRONT PAGE news in America that death rate from a stupid volcano... has risen to 13... in the past several days. 13. That's 80 minutes of infant mortality alone.

Infant mortality, however, is not clickbait. If it bleeds it leads? Dirty Laundry? Terror news (because the next volcano might be under Atlanta...) Fear porn? Those scary volcanoes.

When you look at this crap, remember it' to entertain you. Terrify you. Manipulate you. And more importantly... sell your eyeballs to advertisers because you are so obsessed with the shiny volcano story that you forget that it's irrelevant. Unless you live in Cody, Wyoming. They you're already toast.

Just my rant for the morning.

Magnum caliber for 600-1000+

I’m looking at building a new gun primarily for hitting steel from 600 out to roughly 1200yd. I already have a 308 that was my first long range build, and my 243 AI. This go around I’m looking at building something with a little more punch. I’m leaning towards 264 win mag, but am really wanting opinions on what to look into. My only requirement is the ability to be able to buy brass off the shelf for reloading, as I don’t really want to fire form another round. The plan is a 28-30” tube, manners T4a stock or similar, and to remount 4-32 Nightforce nx8 on it.

So ya. Does the King of Copy Paste have a Vagina, or not?

I think pillars of our community should have more open access as to who they really are personally. I already know the answer to the question. Howard ABSOLUTLEY has a Vagina, butt you don't know that, yet. l only know because he tried to hide a brick of 22 LR ammo in his Prison Purse at Cabela's, cheap bastard.

Anyone else know of his nefarious ways?

What kinds of scopes did you use as a kid?

Random thoughts...

I'm 37. When I was a teenager, shooting relatively cheap guns with cheap scopes for deer hunting, I was typically using Tasco, Bushnell, and Simmons, 3-9x40. I remember my dad had an old 6x Redfield widefield that I thought was pretty decent.

Back then, I thought my Simmons was a good scope. But I didn't actually know any better, until one day I looked through a Nikon ProStaff, and was blown away at the optical clarity. Then a few years later my uncle got a mid-range Leupold, and again, I was blown away. I often reminisce about the days when I thought a Nikon ProStaff was the end all be all of rifle scopes.

And many of the most popular scope companies today didn't even exist 20 years ago. Seems like Vortex just popped up out of nowhere and now they're everywhere.

My entry into "precision" was a New England Firearms, break-action 223 with a bull-barrel and a cheap BSA scope with some ridiculous magnification, like 40x or something. Fun gun, I regret selling it.

SOLD WTS Minox ZP5 w/MR4 Excellent condition $2200 TYD

I have a like new condition Minox that I am looking to sell. I have owned plenty of these and they are some of the greatest scopes for the money. Thanx for looking. Feel free to text for more pics. I would like to get this scope moved today.... Not really looking to trade. Just need cash.

ZCO or ??????

I have set the wheels in motion for my second build (picked up a chassis / trigger / magazines etc on the Black Friday sale and have a Terminus Zeus on order).

Trying to decide on glass. I have a real itch for a ZCO scope and have been offered a ZCO 5-27 with MPCT3 reticle for a great price (scope is a few months old but is perfect).

This build will be a trainer / for use in local competitions probably in 223 or 223AI. The local competitions are 500 max. I know ZCO is highly regarded and I dont doubt they are a great scope but as some of the competitions I plan to shoot with this rifle are benchrest style events demanding high accuracy (as opposed to simply making contact anywhere on a plate) I wonder if I would be better with a second focal plane scope with 1/8 adjustments?

A SFP scope reticle is general finer allowing for better accuracy (I prefer a fine dot in the centre for this reason on either SFP or FFP).

I already have a 10-50X Sightron S3 (which is SFP) and a 7-35X Nightforce ATACR. The ATACR has better glass but I feel like I can be more accurate with the higher magnification / finer reticle on the Sightron. To be fair I haven't had as much time behind the ATACR.

Thoughts?

Are there any SFP 1/8 scopes that are in the same league as the ZCO?

Is the reticle on the ZCO fine enough at max magnification for this style of shooting?

Does anyone find that the "Fatal Funnel" on the MPCT3 obstructs their view and hinders them from seeing trace (I suspect thats why the MPCT3X was launched and I think I would prefer it but then I would have to buy a new scope costing significantly more)?

Thanks in advance.

This is a weird reloading situation ...

I've been fire-forming a bunch of new 300-PRC Lapua brass. Took some 1x fired brass out for a test spin yesterday and they wouldn't fit into the chamber ... bolt wouldn't close on any of them at the range. Brought 'em home and because it's an MRAD and super easy ... I pulled the barrel and sure enough, the rounds wouldn't seat into the chamber. Went to my sized 1x fired brass that I used for this, and they fit just fine. Dismantled the ammo and re-sized and that made the cases fit just fine ... dropped in and dropped out easily.

Charged and seated the bullets and checked again ... No-Go. Scratched my head over that one, and figured maybe I'd screwed up the head space and the bullets were hitting the lands. Went through that whole process again and it all checked good. Decided to take one of the finished cartridges that didn't fit, and decrease seating depth steadily until it dropped in the chamber ... No-Go. So the problem is not about the bullet hitting the lands, or the size of the case at the beginning of the seating process.

Pulled the bullet to test the case ... and it didn't fit. I'm stumped. How the heck does seating the bullet take a perfectly good case that fits fine, and turn it into a case that doesn't fit in the chamber. What am I missing here? I'm not even sure about next steps to troubleshoot this ...

Tough titty said the kitty....

Here's another gem that moves Georgia ahead against Florida, although there is not enough information to know if it was just the destination of the flight or where this fine lady hails from, needs more research.....

HELP! LP Fusion won't extract case?

Ok guys don't blast me but this is my first custom build as well as first 700 based. Finally received my barrel so just got done torquing it down.

LP Fuzion action
6mm BRA Prefit shouldered barrel
Brand new Lapua brass

I made two dummy rounds last night while barrel was off getting CBTO measurements and using these once I chamber the round it won't extract the case when running the bolt. What am I missing? I measured the bolt head and it looks to be .480 and when I much a round down on the bolt seems that the extractor just barely catches. Ill attach a pic of bolt head.
