FN SCAR IS DEAD; LONG LIVE THE SCAR! US and Belgium Production is over.

I’ve got a love hate relationship with the Scar. I acquired one in 2008/09 early in the release to the civy market, when FN said “once the military adopts it, we are stopping sales to the public”. Or that was my understanding of it. This one is serial number 592, and it sat in the safe for 4 or 5 years unfired. I got tired of sitting on it and shot about 500 rounds through it, and it has pretty much sat for the rest of time I’ve had it. I still have all the original shipped items and box for this thing. That's the story with my Tavor SAR (super low double digit serial number). I can go rub it in my significant other's face that I'm NOT the only one that did that on a gun that I don't shoot.

Interesting, +0.004" over print dimension is certainly enough to cause an issue with a prefit and I don't blame you for not wanting to do prefits for them anymore... Nobody likes dealing with returns and reworks when it could have been avoided.

I'm sure you've measured a much larger sample size of ARC actions than I have, but between 9 ARC actions of 3 different models that share an identical tenon print that I've measured, they've all measured well within the print tolerance, and all 9 actions measured within a total span of 0.0012" even when swapping bolt heads around between all the actions.

The 9 I've measured were certainly good enough for prefits but like any chamber job regardless of action brand, if you want to hit an exact headspace dimension you either need the action in hand or accurate action face to bolt face measurements.

If I'm ordering a custom prefit, even for an action that supposedly guarantees an action face to bolt face dimension within +/- 0.001" according to the manufacturers print, I always provide the smith with a measurement from the action face to the bolt face taken with a calibrated depth mic measured multiple times in multiple spots on the bolt face on my action that the barrel will be going on. Doing this I've yet to find any out of spec dimensional surprises regardless of brand, but I'm sure you've measured many more actions than I have and can note trends and deviations by manufacturer.

If the smith knows what they're doing and I provide that action to bolt face dimension along with a headspace gauge or a couple of pieces of sized brass and tell them "please headspace to this provided gauge/brass +0.001" using this provided action measurement" they can usually hit the desired headspace dimension within a couple of tenths.

Of course, for the best tenon thread fit the smith needs the action in hand, but that's not always convenient if you're still shooting out the current barrel and don't want any down time.
Yeah, I'm not sure whats going on with ARC.

I thought it may have been a singleton error......it happens. But how their "tech expert" handled it when we called was pretty terrible. Long story short......I cut the barrel to their HS measurement of .822 +/- .001".....barrel measures .8215ish.......action measures .826ish......ARC expert said "Although that's on the extreme end, that's within safe acceptable HS range for 300 Norma" there wasn't any hint of "Wow our action HS is way off the norm".

Then I get another CDG order that is a switch barrel setup 6ARC and 308......both bolt heads measure about +.004 over their prefit spec sheet.

Either update your documentation for your new standard.......or are you throwing darts in the dark?

So forgive me if I'm a little jaded when I hear someone rave about the excellence of said company and their products.

Navy Admiral, Alvin Holsey, said I'm out of here.

Well, by!!
Clean house of the deep state that are more loyal to the mic and $$$$ than to fighting to win as rapidly possible.

"Admiral Holsey's resignation only deepens my concern that this administration is ignoring the hard-earned lessons of previous U.S. military campaigns and the advice of our most experienced warfighters,' Reed said."

From the article ^^^^^
Hard earned lessons? Did he learn that the military is not a nation building asset? Did he learn that the military is not for spreading democracy and our chosen style of government across the globe? Did he learn that the military is not for regime change in other countries? Did he learn that the military is not the world's police?
He's another crat waiting for a multi million dollar "consulting" job. Good riddance!! Don't let the door hit you in the ass!!

Didn’t he learn that the military is not a place to “transition?” Or that the military has no use for DEI because that shit gets Americans killed? That it is not a social justice daycare? Or Petri dish for social engineering?

It’s a meritocracy and what one gets “merit” for is being a lethal soldier, sailor, airman or Marine and whatever your job… making sure it contributes to readiness to dominate an enemy. It is not a place to play dress-up or go to prove that tits or melanin or a penchant for shit-stabbing should be allowed because… feels.

.223 AND 6mm ARC advice

My thoughts exactly as I was reading through. Given that OP already has 16" and 11.5" 5.56s, if I didn't want to mess with building up a whole new upper, I'd be fine with pulling the 20" barrel and switching it to an 18" ARC.
Already have the 6arc in 18" form. In fact I'm gonna run it at the F class match next weekend at Central Alabama Gun Club.

(Pics that show how BADLY I lose will follow)

Ace Frehley, founding Kiss member, Dead at 74.

Never liked them as a youngern. I thought Glitter rock was as stupid as disco.

But later came to appreciate that despite their get-ups, KISS did some excellent music! And some iconic songs that are hard to associate with face paint and cow tongues. They were really talented if goofy to look at.

We are losing a lot of greats these days and it’s only going to get worse. Roger Daltery, I read, is on deaths doorstep. Many of the icons are in their late ‘70’s and ‘80 and not buying green bananas.

Between actors, tv personalities, authors and musicians… there were a lot of “hits” in the mass media era. And are going to be a lot of “funerals” in a short time. Kind of like the late 90’s and early 2000’s when we were losing 1000 WW2 vets a week. Because… statistics hit the top of the bell curve…

It’s happening with the boomer rockers at an increasing speed!

.223 AND 6mm ARC advice

I’d say if you have an 18” 6 ARC (and I do), the longest 5.56 gun you’d need is a 16”. Whether in an SPR or Recce setup, you can shoot to 5-600 pretty easily and do it cheaper. The ARC takes care of everything 600-1000 or so.

Hunting & Fishing Post your SMK/Match bullet kills

Can anybody comment on 308 185 jugs, 175SMK, or 155TMK?

I didn't buy hunting bullets in 308 and that's what I got for this coming deer season.
Whole pile of critters on this thread gave way to the 175 SMK. That said I think the 155 TMK would be a monster especially on deer sized critters. The 77 TMK whacks the hell out of em. Id love to see you use the 155 TMK and report back what the extra speed and bigger cavity yields.

interesting-Sunni. i am hearing that Iran-Shia-doing similar. Iran kicked us and a ruler we put in out. they hate us. Saudi rulers that the Brits (?) put in are nervous about getting kicked out. they hate us too AEB 9/11?
That change was due to all the white liberal feminists protesting in muslim countries. It's about time those goat fuckers listened to the feminists and stop their misogynistic enslavement of women.

Watch how you store it!

An old non working mini fridge. Seals out moisture, can't contain an explosion.
A buddy of mine modded an old fridge with a different thermostat to maintain about 75 degrees, and stores all his reloading components in it.

He had a fire in his garage a while back. When the fire department showed up, they asked him if there was anything in the garage that was hazardous. He pointed at the fridge and said "that fridge is full of gunpowder"

He told me he'd never seen two guys move a fridge so fast, lol.

.308 Winchester

I checked the weight and length of once fired brass, 10x Sako 9x Hornady 20x S&B.
The S&B brass is definitely all over the place when it comes to weight and length compared to the other two brands.
The SD/ES of the brass weights were as follows:
Sako: 0.46/1.4
Horn: 0.7/2.3
S&B: 0.9/3.1

I'm going to get a bushing die also, resizing some brass today the expander ball felt like shit on many of the case.
Much better on the Hornaday and Sako brass, but I really don't think that's helping either.

Do you rate the Hornady bushing dies, or do I just go straight for Redding/Forster?
Don't overlook the rcbs matchmaster dies. I have a few sets and I like them. That said, my hornady dies have never done me wrong. I did have to polish my redding 243AI die to slick it up a little.

In my non bushing dies I polish the expander down a few thou and finish expanding with a mandrel. It just feels better to me.

Question on Impact 737 and Remington 700 barrel machining

The thing to do here is screw the two together tight on both with a go and nogo chambered and measure the gap. Then you'll know the lug thickness range you need. This was also the test to qualify for the Quality Control technician position at old Remington. If you managed to clock the lug correctly, you were supervisor material...

Looks like a .250 recoil lug may put you very close

Texas hogs from field to table

Aren't the larger ones kind of nasty tasting? Friend of mine who lived in ABQ said anything much larger than a piglet was worse than gamey.
Everybody always told me a boar over 80lbs or so wasn't worth eating. That said, I've killed some well over 200lbs that ate quite well.

I have killed some that had a musky pungent odor to them. On those, I just roll them over and harvest the backstraps, and leave the rest for the buzzards and coyotes.
