MRGG-A (6.5 CM) vs 6 ARC?

Put this in the MRGG-S thread by accident...

Badlands Shell Shock is pretty interesting stuff and certainly has application in both 556 and 6.5 CM ammo... 55gr at 3k fps out of 10.3" barrel is crazy (3300fps out of 14.5" barrel). $0.70 or so a round for 55 fmj and $1.25 or so a round for 77 otm is pretty reasonable and should hopefully come down as production ramps up. Their 308 M118LR equivalent is way too expensive but hopefully they can figure that out (they have a blank page for 6.5 CM so excited to see what happens here).

Personally, I'd love a 100gr ELD VT or similar bullet pushed silly fast from a short (~14.5") 6.5 CM and a 130 AR Hybrid that is +200 fps from what we are used to today.

Certainly could help the ARC as well but with that low of pressure not sure how much it would benefit?

I agree a lighter weight bullet in a 14.5 Mrgg-a would be a great performer as long as the guns not an overweight hog.

Finding a wife

Yes, but its the prime reason one needs to be very careful about saying yes. Marrying for arm candy (aka tits or ass) or cash is a sure fire way to lose everything. The true definition of Divorce, is the fucking you get for the fucking you got.

I used to believe that but I've known plenty of guys who married women they've known for years and years and six months after marriage she changes. Until you're married you don't know.

Magpul - 2025 New Maztech X4-FCS & X4-LRF

Being that you thought the aiming chevron was a bit big for use with smaller targets, can you run the FCS+LRF and just turn off the illuminated aiming point? That way you'd still have your elevation hold show up in the HUD but you'd just use your optic's reticle to hold over (like with any other WMLRF).
You know I didn't think about this as a potential solution. The HUD is fairly customizable but I'm not sure if you can actually turn the aiming point off.... I'll have to give it a try. I know Maztech is looking at designing other aiming points so hopefully that's something that can be changed by the user at some point down the road.

Bartlein Barrels Update

I've been in manufacturing now for 40 years. Gun barrels themselves almost 30.

Here is the issue... it's not as easy as you or some others would think.

We've put more machines online over time... but you have a domino effect... we can say... lets build another rifler and we are actually toying with the idea again.... but you have to look at the whole picture... you have to look back at the whole process.... can the bore reamers and prelapping processes keep up... if you say yes... then you go back further... can the guys in contouring/lathe work keep up... if you say no... your then adding another contouring machine... and a guy to run it.... if you are adding a lathe for contour work... then you have to go back to the gun drilling.... can the gun drills keep up to feed the lathes and the whole process etc...

Actually looking at getting another gun drill as well.

You also have to look at the capital investment... is the work load going to be there a few months or a year from now etc... Yes I don't see it going anywhere.

Right now... it's not actual machine time that is the issue... it's the people time is what we are lacking. We cannot for the most part find quality people to work. One is salary... even if we agree on a starting salary.... right now the only open spots are on 2nd shift. Nobody wants to work 2nd shift. For the most part we don't have a 3rd shift so don't even go there.

At the peak of covid... we ran the shop 24 hours a day... and for several months... 7 days a week. Daytime guys started at 4am.. worked till 4pm and the 2nd shift guys came in at around 3:30pm/4pm time frame and worked till 4am. We alternated crews every other weekend so guys had time off for the weekends primarily on Sundays. Maybe 5 to 7 of us worked one Sunday and then a different group of guys worked the next Sunday. For a span of about 9 months there where 3 to 4 guys that were putting in 35 hours a week of overtime!!!!!

We hired two guys back in Nov and Dec. time frame. I interviewed another guy and we agreed on wages etc.... took about 4 weeks of going back and forth. He knew up front.... he had to start on 2nd shift. I told him there will be weeks where you can come in and work 1st shift but cannot guarantee it all the time. He plenty of experience in drilling and turning and doing finished test barrel work. He was a perfect fit... then his wife said no to 2nd shift... that killed it.

Also we are not just going to hire anyone just to throw people at the problem. That doesn't solve anything.

Later, Frank
Frank,
The other problem I see with the domino effect is risk, not only in the political arena but also in quality control. You also have to add people there to ensure the product remains the same consistency since a couple bad reviews can really put a crimp in the legacy you built.

You don't happen to have any 25mm or 40mm rifled barrels laying around do you:D:D
