well, down south hay is abundant because it's been raining.

i don't pay any attention to the long term bullshit. when its supposed to be wet, its a dry winter. when its supposed to be dry its a dry winter.

im going to plant my oats anyway and hope for something

screw worms arent a problem in the US, yet. they last were in the 60s. its impact is that we are being careful with Mexican cattle, which i think has been stopped all together.

the higher prices are going be in the lack of supply because the Texas cattle producers (largest cattle producing state) have had to sell more of their breeding herds because of drought. we are all currently trying to rebuild our herds and its going to take a couple of years, but there are very few who are going to be borrowing money to buy replacement cattle at historically high prices. we are all going to breed for them and not sell.

case in point, i have two heifers out of my calves i am going to trade with a buddy of mine so we can get them away from breeding back to their daddy bull.

the biggest driver of price increases have been reduced herds because of the droughts we have been in. we need more rain and that will help prices stay flat for a while. but i dont think thats going to happen until we fix the low herd numbers.

If you buy beef by the percentage of how much cow it encompasses, I have some questions...

I get 1/2 a steer every year as part of a land lease agreement. The rancher who leases the property raises the steer and eventually takes it to a local meat market. We split the processing and disposal fees. The meat market hangs the beef for 21 days to age it (per my request). They then cut and package my half of the steer as I have requested. They freeze everything and call me to pick up and pay my part.
The weight of the steer will vary, but this year my half was just over 400 lbs. After processing I ended up with just about 300 pounds of meat. My freezer is an upright model that is about 5’x3’x2.5’. Almost every year the 1/2 steer fills the freezer up. Near the time we are expecting another 1/2 steer we start giving the previous year’s meat to family and close friends. We do this because otherwise there will not be enough room in the freezer for the leftover meat and the new stuff.

That is very true.

In terms of the Integrix, the early models are built in Taiwan, but what appears to be a new OEM. They are also building the new Mepro scopes. It is not entirely clear to me if Leapers owns it or has partial interest in it. It sounded like they are more than just a customer, but I could be wrong.

As of a few months ago, they were building a cleanroom at their facility in Michigan and planning to assemble production Integrix scopes in the US.

I can say that the FOV is excellent but we have never tried to use these from 10-400 without readjusting the parallax. In fact the adjustable parallax was one of the original draws for use because it is so important for us at the closer ranges. The eyebox, image brightness and resolution for a given X is one of the best we've seen. Capped wind, locking Elev, Nice Illum with timeout and the small footprint are the schnitz.

I can also say that the glass quality and design allows us to resolve things better at 10x than some of the other scopes can do at 14x or more. I may be wrong but I would guess that a scope with lower magnification would offer more of a "deep field" focus than the higher X scopes with all other things being equal.

Maybe get @koshkin or one of the other optics nerds ( I mean that in a very respectful way) to chime in?

I have not yet tested the 2-10x Mark5HD. I pinged John a couple of weeks ago, but I have not received a reply yet.

Generally, if my math is right, it should have enough depth of field on 2x to use it up close and personal without needing to do anything with parallax.

The basic idea with a scope like this is that you should be able to set the parallax to some moderate distance (around 100 meters or so) and then use the optic without needing to touch the parallax for the bulk of what you do.

However, when getting ready for some sort of a fairly specific scenario like an ultra precise shot at close range where you might choose to use higher magnification or for longer range use on 10x, side focus is very helpful.

With all that, even wonderfully optimized 2x does not replace good quality 1x or non-magnifying optic if you are going to do a lot of CQB. If I were running a 2-10x30 scope, I would likely have an offset or piggybacked red dot set up. To be fair, I also have those set up with LPVOs, but that's more of a redundancy play.
