Which is the best AR-10 without barrel deflection: the Geissele MRGG or the Seekins SP10M?

I read this earlier on phone, but waited until I had keyboard to respond...

The whole POI shift thing seems strange to me. The barrel, chamber, etc. are attached to the upper with a good solid nut. The potential for the barrel to 'move' in its socket when properly locked down by the barrel nut seems to be pretty minimal, defects or improper assembly notwithstanding.

The handguard is also anchored to the upper but is much less robust than the barrel both in anchor and because it is a pretty thin-walled tube and not as tightly anchored to the upper as the barrel. The bipod is anchored to the handguard, not the barrel. So I can see the handguard having the potential to deflect or change POI between tripod, bag and bipod.

But these methods of supporting the handguard should not change the internal ballistics of the barrel. The pressure on handguard or bipod should not 'deflect' the front of the upper casting enough to move the barrel.

That said, I can certainly see that a scope that is anchored to a long rail and has its front mounts on the handguard could 'shift.' But this is not an internal ballistics change (as could be caused by a wood stock, for example, making contact with a barrel and swelling/shrinking, thus physically moving the barrel in relation to its chamber.

However, if the scope is not solely anchored to the upper, or the rail on the handguard extends back over the frame... etc. then I can certainly see a potantial for a POI change caused by the scope moving in relation to the barrel.

Maybe I am missing something. And I only have one AR-10 custom built around an LWRC upper and lower. I used cammed pins to really lock upper and lower together... but it makes takedown a whole different matter vs. just pushing pins out. That said, while it shoots well (about 1MOA at 100) I've not noticed POI shifts with bipod vs rest (not used tripod). But I don't shoot that gun like I shoot my bolt guns. I built it as an exercise and used the best of what was available c. 2010. When it shot 'ok' but nowhere near my TRG and other bolt guns, it got relegated to fun plinker, but not a full-up precision rifle.

I'd be interested in a deeper dive into POI shifts on AR-10's. But I am having a hard time wrapping my head around how the pressure exerted on a handguard can affect the barrel... only, possibly, the relationship between the barrel internal ballistics and the scope reticle. And to me, that's a scope-mounting issue, not a ballistics issue.

Interesting thread... I'll be following. Heck maybe I can learn something to get my AR-10 to shoot incrementally-better!

Cheers,

makes you wonder...how much did they save by murdering countless people with clotshots?
how much did they save murdering old people that only had the flu and were put on vents to kill them?

Anyone with any kind of critical thinking would come to this conclusion., but its what is done with the conclusion that matters. The average lifespan is longer than it was when SS first came out, the SS fund has been raided and fewer children are being born to pay for SS. Either people have to thin out or money has to be printed while the COLA is fudged so payouts are smaller relative to the actual money supply.

The strange thing is, if you bring in a ton of illegals and they get on assistance you have a worse problem, just out of another money bucket (for the most part), and for a much longer timeline.

What they are REALLY saying is that CITIZENS who are too old or frail to be productive in the overall GDP are expensive relative to the promises that were made back in the day. IOW, the authors of this paper are saying those people are a net loss to society and money can be saved if they just died already. Which also includes every person on this site that is retired. This is WEF level type stuff.

We used to respect our elders.

With Anzio essentially defunct, is anyone else making 20mm or larger modern rifles available in the U.S.?

Cases do not come crimped, they get crimped during the loading process. The brass you buy will not have crimps.
I’m not sure you understood me. I was asking if you crimp the bullets into the case mouth after loading to replicate the factory crimp on 20 Vulcan ammo. I have read of at least one person doing so with a pipe cutter using a rounded wheel.

Re the bushed cases from CDVS, can’t say $20/case is thrilling. Will consider bushing the brass I have if it comes to that, I have a decent supply.

What cars you fools have?

Just got the 96 Land Cruiser back from the shop. Had some minor repairs and mods needed to be done.

This one is a Black Special, only offered in 96. They offered black most of the model run, but this one has chrome accents throughout, making it a Black Special. The other thing unique to it that it has no factory roof rack, which is very uncommon for the US Spec Land Cruisers.

This one the previous owner put in a brand new OEM Short Block, and vapor honed all the other parts that were reused.

It has been de-flared, and I put 17" FJ Cruiser Steelies on it.

believe it or not, that's the original paint, although the hood and part of the roof have been repainted.
