^ This is exactly the same look, attitudes and behaviors you will see as they are pilfering your house in the absence of law and consequences during the next (manufactured) civil unrest. All it takes is knowledge that they can overwhelm the system.

I saw this stuff 25 years ago in Valdosta GA, and thought it was isolated (bunch of kids mob-robbed several military recruiting stands). I now know this is the cultural norm, and your only defense will be you... and you WILL be prosecuted for doing so in most places.

Pick your poison, draw your line based on your beliefs, and God bless.

Hunting & Fishing First Western Elk Hunt…Essential Gear/Clothing Advice Needed

I moved to Montana from CA in 1996. I killed my first elk, a cow, in 1997.

If you haven't hunted elk or moose before, the size of the body is about four or five times the size of our whitetail deer. Working on a body of that size, by yourself isn't terribly hard but you need to be ready to do so.

Carry multiple knives or some way to hone your knife in the field. I carry a Wyoming saw too, the bigger one. Carry 50 yards of parachute cord to help anchor the carcass and keep the body from rolling away while you are standing in the chest of the beast. Tie the head of the carcass uphill to help you get the guts out of the carcass using gravity.

Use the same cord to elevate the meat above the reach of any carnivore that may want to sample your kill. I'm not willing to cut a real rope but I have no problem cutting parachute cord to little bits, and then throw it away. Leave a pair of sweaty, stinky underware under the hanging meat. Do not hang the quarters or watever you prefer, in a spot that can't be seen from a safe distance away. Look first before recovering the carcass.

You need to remember that you aren't on top of the food ladder by yourself and do not allow yourself to be in a bad situation like walking up on a bear.

I wish you the best of luck on your hunt, I hope it goes well for your elk camp.

Imagine a bird, stork like, chicken like, maybe hawk like…..on long muscular legs and built like a bison with wings…..maybe 6-8 feet tall and eyes that see EVERYTHING…..

ABSOLUTE nightmare fuel 😮

What happened to US optics?

It's been about 20 years since USO had a great rep. Options were between s&b pm2, premier, hensdoldt or USO in the high end markets. They were the only US made scope. Their quality went down the shitter and people stopped buying them. I remember telling the owner George he needed to move out of CA to keep his prices competitive. Their prices stayed high, quality went down and the competition came along and made them irrelevant. Later on George died/sold the company and they started using the name to import cheap OEM shit that just kept on devaluing the brand. They did come up with the first true 1-8x LPVO / DFP that was usable. But they never improved it and their reticle options for the most part sucked ( and still don't this day).

They were kinda like March is. You can spec anything and they will hand build what you want...which was pretty cool. Ultimately ownership let their tech stagnate and didn't keep up the quality commensurate with their price point.

Like Leupold at the time, they had a competitive product 15-20 years ago but sat on it (post CA) while everyone else was making improvements. (At least Leupold figured it out eventually and brought updated products to market).

When JBW III sold USO, and it went from being owned by an afficionado (my opinion) to being owned by your typical 'venture capital' company. Profits became more important than product, and the image that the Brea, CA company created was no more. Innovation turned into importing cheap products, and slapping their name on it in hopes that brand recognition would create more sales.

I had an ST-10 in about 2007, and I just bought a MST-100 that was made in 2008. Believe it or not, the glass is still good... not competitive with today's Alpha optics, but noticeably better than your legacy Mark 4s and Bushnell DMRs.

Well, did you know that when you trench here in Appalachia you bring to the surface of the earth the most primal, sticky, staining red clay in the solar system?

Well ya do. It stains skin, finger nails, clothing and seemingly steel tools like shovels and picks.

I got out there, in the light rain and 100% humidity and installed the water box in the ground and the electric box on some PVC for the kid’s camper. All seems good to go and It works like it is supposed to. Done with burying service thank you Lord.

It wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t some kind of injury or illness involved with any project. I came to the house, took off my boots and donned my tactical flip flops to carry said boots back out to the shop to clean the primordial clay off of them. Wouldn’t you know it, a red wasp took it upon himself to sting me 3-4 times on the top of my left foot 😫 now my foot is doing that burning/throbbing thing 😑

Why do people load so hot?

You are correct. Want more speed, go to a lighter bullet, and that can be done without loading to max pressure.

However, the typical difference between a moderate load and a max pressure load is roughly 100 to 150 fps. That’s the point. That is why I used the difference of 100 fps.

We are talking pressure, not bullet weight. To many people try to make a cartridge something it isn’t. And that’s the issue. Obviously going to a lighter bullet to get more speed works. But its pressure, not bullet weight is the point of the discussion.
I think "we" were talking about one thing. Just like i explained. And You were talking about something else.
