Slugging barrels......Don't F'in do things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is why God made lead.
There are three guys and are top smiths...... and I'll say these three guys will tell you when they have used a lead slug.... they can get close to what they think the bore size is....and they are honest and will say.... it's subjective at best.

Vintage AI rifle or modern AI rifle?

I bought an AT with the plan being to have it replace my AE. After shooting both of them I don’t think I’ll be selling my AE though, I like the trigger better.

There may be a bit of personal bias/nostalgia playing into the decision since it was my first rifle but it does have some things going for it. The price of the older AI models in comparison to the AT blows my mind a bit though.
I have a ae mk3(bought new in 2013 for 3700, folder fde and tooley 6.5creed), ae mk2 that I bought for 1700, had an ax mk1, had another ae mk3, and had a 2016 at. The ae's all had better triggers and smoother bolt throws and cocking than the ax or at, at was the worst on bolt feel and trigger. The aics mag is most reliable with br based cases, seems like the at/aw mag works great with 308 and creedmoor based cases but need to some fiddling with shorter cases(not always) to run smooth. I still have my 2 he's don't plan on selling them, even if market was 5k on them. Og ai poors porn....

groups from ae mk3 with tooley barrel, shot off bipod and rear bag on gravel. 1st rd in bottom left group was gun settling into gravel, I should have dug in better for first shot. Ai's shoot good regardless of current or past. I can change barrels on my ae's in 15 minutes, but it does take 2 torque wrenches, barrel vise, and action wrench.

Slugging barrels......Don't F'in do things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 60+ years of shooting shotgun, rifle and handgun and reloading for all of them starting at age 14, I've learned a little. And the more I learn the more I understand how much more there is to know.

And one of the things of which I am sure is that Homo sapiens as a species hasn't really evolved much in 5000 years.

Hunting & Fishing Camouflage clothing / over clothing options

This kind of stuff always seems to be shiny and reflective because of the synthetic materials. I have a couple pieces like you describe. One is for bugs and is a double layer thing that skeeters cant bite through. The other is a cheap piece I got when I was young and could only afford one piece of Camo to put over everything. Neither is great for light absorption. Most stuff isn't as good as people think in that realm. The natural fibers like wool seem to be the best for light absorption. If you put most synthetic pieces in the light and then change the angles you can see the "sheen". Critters can pick up on that sheen as its not natural, they dont always, but they can. Im not aware of any mesh "overclothes" made from natural fibers so Im also interested.

The new Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50, initials, and ongoing thoughts.

Not quite the same scope, but I just added a Gen 3 Ares in 4.5-27x from Cameraland and I'm really disappointed in the glass. I put it on my Tikka 22lr thinking it would be a step up from my Helos BTR Gen 2 4-20 but less cost than a used Cronus. It's almost as if the focus on it isn't quite fine enough so at 100 yards, you can't bring the picture into clarity. I'm a big fan of the Cronus and Helos I have so I was hoping this would fall somewhere between, but It just isn't what I was hoping on the glass clarity.

.223 - 5.56

Most people put too much emphasis on running close to the lands. By far the majority of bullets function quite satisfactory with even relatively large jumps.

I would even suggest that for time sensitive competitions and hunting, a large jump might be beneficial. It is quite frustrating when you open the bolt on an unfired round and the bullet stays behind.

That won’t happen with a Wylde chamber. You don’t need a large jump to not have bullets pulled from the case. I have run about .020” on everything and never had that happen in over 20 years of running matches.

ZCO 420 vs NF 420 on a gas gun.

Soon we will need to say what year our scope is... so ridiculous. Makes it easy to hide the ball for the marketeerz though :ROFLMAO:

NF does not hold a candle to ZCO. I don't care what vintage it is. You may be fine with a NF and don't need a ZCO, but they are not close - Ferrari vs Vette. I like the Vette argument for my own shooting, but I'm fair weather hobby only.

Rolling changes during production has happened through products forever, look at the automotive industry or iPhones for example. Just some notable and obvious areas on the ZCO is the finish and 10MIL turrets for example. I’d rather a manufacturer make improvements when they feel the need to instead of sitting on the same exact design for a decade or longer.

The owner of the rifle felt it wasn’t shooting good enough. He thinks the steel isn’t good. So, he decided to make his own bushing and put it on a cleaning rod and push it down the bore to check the barrel. He feels there are tight spots in it. I’ll guarantee you that he scored the tops of the lands. Barrel is guaranteed junk now.
Any lint, dirt, carbon particles etc.... will get forced between the slug and the bore and your going to do damage. Worse yet.... a steel bushing was made and to what spec it was made to and your pushing it down the bore. Nothing but a disaster here.

Nothing in his email about how he’s cleaning it, how many rounds on it… how it’s shooting etc… not to mention what the diameter/spec he made his custom steel bushing to in order to check the bore.

Yes.... No warranty being given.

I'm refraining from using very choice words right now!
