Thread has been stagnant for a bit but figured I would shed some light in here. Was able to bring home my first piece of hardware yesterday at Fossil Pointe out in Decatur. Was a super solid day and honestly I am not sure what clicked yesterday but it honestly just felt effortless. Dope was lined up perfectly all day, had some switchy 10-15mph gust catch me off guard mid stage but was able to correct well on the clock. dropped 9 shots on the day just 4 behind the winner. Also first match with this new JK can ( I am calling it the poor mans Maverik since you can adjust the length by adding/removing baffles ) with the RecoilX brake, bought the can last Saturday and it got approved Wednesday so I only had 2 days at home to shoot it at 50 yards but it worked great at the match. This is a huge confidence boost going into the 2 day Scorcher match here in a couple weeks in Little Rock. Hope to see some of you guys out there!
You're being obtuse. Catastrophic means that the process of the part failing caused other parts to be damaged or fail, or the shooter to become injured. You came here to see an "abject failure."
A rifle with a broken firing pin and a blown-up rifle are equally useful when you are days of hiking into the backcountry and see an animal you have tags for. I titled the thread "abject failure," and that's exactly what a busted-off firing pin is. If you don't consider that failure "catastrophic" given the circumstances this rifle is intended to be used for, we just have different standards for what we'll accept out of our hunting rifles.
What powder and charge weight?I think the .300NM is excellent choice for what you are trying to do. I have a bone stock AXSR 27” barrel shooting 245 Hybrids at 2870fps and have run it out to 2500 with hits on steel in ELR match last weekend. You will also need to factor in a Prism if you wanna keep a 100 zero and shoot past 2500 yards.
Sounds like an awesome build you got going!!
I think you are on to something. It is not accepted, even here, to be honest about how the snipers (and their ROEs) we celebrate actually were/are used in practice. Especially against smelly potentially AK packing, toga wearing randos in dusty dry places. I think often, in practice, considering the inequality in skill and tools, it is effectively a license to kill, like 007. Yup, I’m ok with it, but let’s be honest about our process that results in Achmed getting ventilated. Now, how about drone strikes, and the extremely “flexible” ROE’s we have used them under…I don't know enough about this situation to make an informed opinion, but I DO remember reports from the beginning that terrorists were attacking these sites to either disrupt their effectiveness, or to outright steal the aid for themselves. Is it possible that what we're actually seeing is IDF overwatch operations and that those who were killed were seen preparing an attack? Something like the sniper overwatch in say, Fallujah when the Marines were going house-to-house on the streets and overwatch snipers were killing "innocent-looking civilians" whom they had observed hiding weapons or placing IEDs? My first reaction to that video was, "Automatic gunfire?" That's not a very stealthy method if you're trying to get away with something you shouldn't be doing. It's going to call attention to the operation and you'd think they would be prepared for the scrutiny that comes with it (ie, have a good reason for it).

then again we may have to accept that there is a level of animosity that we may never fully comprehend from our perspective.
