I'm armed security at my church. Sunday, about 2/3 of the way in - a guy who used to come a lot, but disappeared about 9 months ago walked in. He was carrying something in both hands. The foyer light was turned off. I never knew that without that foyer light, that the light coming through the front door glass would only silhouette someone coming through the door. I didn't recognize him, only that he wasn't one of our regular members.

He waved as I moved in my chair to face him and started to get up. That bought just enough time for me to see that he was holding his hat, some papers, and a couple other items together in his hands as he walked in. Not going to lie, I had spent a split-second in that mental territory of "aw crap, I don't want to have to do this today". I felt guilty later for even having that thought cross my mind. Then I felt guilty for not being better prepared.

I fear the church shooting acts will only continue to increase. It is a shame that we even have to worry about it at all.

From now on, I'll check that foyer light every day as I come in too.
Good on you for filling that role. That resignation and commitment you felt when you got up is why real life for the aware is an endurance event.

Not a terrible MPVO feature set...

I hate dragging you back in when you are busy, but -- I am one confused by the category distinctions, MPVO vs Crossover. Do you have a post at your DLO site that talks about this category difference?

With an MPVO, I am looking for something with mag range that is not too dissimilar from modern LPVOs. 2x on the low end is about right. 10x to 12x on the top end is about right. I want a 32mm to 44m objective, fairly low overall length and moderate weight. These are at at their best in the 5x to 10x range, especially in fading light, while still being easy to us on low power with most thermal clip-ons.

Crossover scopes are essentially general purpose/precision scopes that also double as hunting scopes. For example, western hunting scopes often fall into this category.

Let me rephrase: of all the people I know, and know of, who have spoken to its optical qualities, who have used it. Probably only half a dozen or so, so far from literally everyone obviously. I am not including competitors or people trying to sell theirs, in that, either, lol!
You misunderstood. I am aghast that there is something I agree on with C-Does.

I have talked to a few people who were not happy with AMG. That left me very disappointed in humanity.

Transplant from Oregon... You don't say????

Game Wardens with Texas Parks and Wildlife arrested Ethan McNeely, a 39 year old Oregon transplant, yesterday after discovering him crouched in the woods below the dam at Lake Tawakoni attempting to hunt squirrels with nothing but his bare hands and teeth.

McNeely, who insists he’s “a primal predator, not a sportsman,” argued with officers that his “God-given claws and fangs” exempt him from needing a hunting license. “If I catch it with my molars, that’s between me and Mother Nature,” he reportedly told wardens while spitting out a mouthful of bark.

Authorities were not convinced. TPWD officials say that while McNeely’s hunting technique is unique, state law doesn’t make exceptions for “wannabe cavemen.” He was booked on charges of hunting without a license and disorderly conduct after growling at the officers.

McNeely maintains he’s being persecuted. “They can cage me,” he said, “but they’ll never cage my inner wolf!”

I think his 'inner wolf' is actually a Chihuahua with a severe crack problem. But I could be wrong!

PS. Please let this be satire. Because holy hell, my faith in humanity just can't get any lower. If this thing can be considered humanity...

Precision Rifle Gear Chronograph Testing: Gun Mount vs. Static

It could be assumed that a harder kicking rifle would produce even more ES between the rifle mounted unit and a statically mounted one.

Good data, thanks.

Not more ES, but greater difference in velocity, as the rifle's rearward acceleration during dwell time would be greater, and resulting velocity of the rifle, opposing the bullet velocity, greater. I'm planning another dataset with a higher recoil velocity rifle in the next few weeks for that reason.
