Parker Hale M85 replica - Mission Impossible?

The one extremely difficult and often overlooked part of finishing a PH M85 receiver is the angle on the bolt abutments in the action for primary extraction etc. Some unfinished actions had this done, most don't. You'll need to die sink EDM it unless you can think of a way to broach it while turning the action on the C axis.

I know Norman and also another guy who got all of Sabre Defence's parts when they went bust. I will ask the other guy for you.

I’m not visualizing exactly what you are referring to in that sentence. I will need to research that aspect, but again, I’ll have to defer to my machinest buddy re that procedure for the bolt abutments. This is where I wish there was a local M85 to inspect.

Thanks for offering to ask Norman about M85 parts. The bottom metal is my biggest concern. I only have a fabricated sheet of stamped metal for the mag opening, but none of the latching mechanism, springs, pins, and related parts. If I had drawings maybe my machinest buddy could reproduce those parts, maybe?

As for front sights, there were 2 styles it seems, the P&H one on eBay with 2 screws on the bottom (for $200!?), and the later front base which was an FN M240 front sight (aka General Purpose Machine Gun or GPMG). I’m desperate enough that I just bought online 4 de-milled M240 barrel ends(!), hoping that at least 1 of the 4 sight bases is useable after bead-blasting and refinishing (top 2 look rusted, but bottom 2 might be serviceable after refinishing).
IMG_1080.jpeg

…the challenge is finding an affordable FN front sight that fits the M240 base, as I refuse to pay $270 for this part and its little mounting screw. There was a vendor in Europe selling them for € 25 or so, but they are now out of stock.
IMG_1081.jpeg

Here’s what I want mine to look like when it’s built, including the barrel extending out by about an inch beyond the sight base.
IMG_1865.png

I also need both action screws and the Allen head screw that holds the bolt release onto the receiver. Anyhow, any technical and/or parts assistance is much appreciated re this M85 project, esp from former Parker-Hale employees.

Scope clarity question

Technically, by centering the erector you are improving the clarity of the optical system by lining up all the lenses, so there.
no, the lenses, coating, and the erector remains the same. the position of the erector tube just changes. if your looking out the window, you can look out the window from any position or angle, but it's still the same window. if the window is dirty, or has a screen, or blinds, sure that effects performance, if your looking at it while laying on the floor, sure it effects your perception of the window. but it's not going to change the window itself.

maybe it's just perception? comfort behind the optic? those are certainly factors but the glass and clarity remain the same.

Malinowskis widow sues atf

This is the exact same modus operandi the ATF used at Waco. The ATF stated Bryan Malinowski is purchasing too many weapons or “allegedly” selling arms for profit.

Instead of interacting with Malinowski person to person during the day in his executive office, the ATF planned and executed a dynamic entry with 10 car loads of agents using a battering ram thru the front door @ 6:03AM. “About 46 seconds elapsed between the time officers first announced their presence and the moment an agent shot Malinowski in the head.“

Busted thru the door and executed him because they stated he purchased (collected) 150 guns over a three year period. There is no federal or local law in Arkansas that caps the amount of arms a person is allowed to own or purchase that I’m aware of.

No difference here than Waco. This is a heinous criminal organization (ATF) that should be disbanded and defunded immediately. They operate as sicario hit squads hiding behind a badge with intent to kill.

Mind you, Bryan Malinowski had no criminal record and was the chief executive of the Clinton national airport and the highest paid employee for the city of Little Rock. It is not inconceivable that an ATF agent(s) could have met Malinowski at his airport office to discuss this situation professionally. They had already placed trackers on his vehicles and followed him around so they new his whereabouts each day.

Interesting that this was a search warrant NOT an arrest warrant. He was not considered a “high threat target” per ATF so 10 carloads of sicario agents for Bryan Malinowski, his wife, and two pugs at his home?

Who signed off on this raid? Which judge approved the search warrant? Who gave the approval for a dynamic entry at 6:03AM?

ATF is the same group of pussies they have always been from Waco to Malinowski.

I recall G. Gordon Liddy stating on air and in person to me in Austin, Texas at one of his live radio shows back in the 90’s that ATF agents were the worst of the worst government employees because they were rejects with guns. They were passed over by almost every government agency during the hiring process. All the undesirables would ultimately end up at the ATF. The bottom of the barrel rejects all of them. His words not mine.

This was a hit plain and simple. I’m glad his wife is suing them. The ATF has been stonewalling questions from her so now she and her lawyers get discovery and it will be telling I’m sure. I hope she sues them for 1 billion and wins, all of the agents get fired with no pension, and the entire corrupt agency gets defunded.

I would surmise that if the ATF was defunded and those employees fired, majority of them would end up working for the cartels in Mexico and Latin America where they would enjoy the lack of that pesky Bill of Rights they undoubtedly despise. They would justify there new jobs as professional security assets or tactical consultants all to make them feel clean but still retain the ability to kill as needed.

ATF is a disgrace to this country, detrimental to the lives of the American people, and a blight on our history. They do not honor nor respect the Bill of Rights guaranteed to all US citizens by God Almighty.

I hope that justice is afforded to the wife and family of Bryan Malinowski and something like this never happens to another American citizen again. May he RIP.

kinda doubt they would be hired by the cartels. their fighters are expected to get shot back at. the cartels don't care about casualties so these cunts would not have the protection of our corrupt gov to hide behind.

Guess we will know in the morning? *update*

Like that dude who is apparently a lawyer and his channel is most definitely 100% click bait nonsense. Every headline is "BREAKING!! SCOTUS ENDS (GUN CONTROL/NFA/WORLD HUNGER/PERMITS TO CARRY)" and then the truth is nothing even fucking close.

He started off good and turned into a total clown with the mis-leading titles.

ETA: Channel is "thearmedscholar".
Clicks=$$$

Thats all they care about.

Adjustments to the reticle output display. Adopting A1st into ABQ is still up for debate.

Thank you, I'd really appreciate it if the A1st would be incorporated.

I can manually figure out the WindDots and SpeedDrop in ABQ already but having it spit out the info would be a lot handier than manually doing it in ABQ or doing it from the Kestrel, especially having it update when enviromentals rapidly change or I drive 6hrs for a match.

The SpeedDrop is nearly there with the 'Reticle' menu and the 'dialed elevation' feature. If the SD were calculated as 1.9, it would be neat to be able to 'dial down -1.9' in the Reticle menu and have that actually change on the range card not just the Reticle illustration. So, I could verify 2.0=200y, 3.5=350y, 5.1=510y etc. I can do that by going into my profile and changing the zero-offset height to the SD number but that's a few too many steps. This is coming from a gas gunner that appreciates those features for quick shooting solutions.

Scope clarity question

Who cares if it affects the “clarity of the optical system?” It affects what your eye sees and that’s what matters

fair point. but to say the mounting system is improving clarity is incorrect. it's not going to make the glass any better or improve anything, other than removing something that is hindering performance. its just factually incorrect and could be misleading if misconstrued. sometimes people read these threads years after we've forgotten about them and it's important to have all the relevant information. I could use the best mount on a paper towel roll, but it'll still be a paper towel roll.

NOTE: How EVERY SINGLE ONE of the criminal cowards in the class of terroristic mass shooter/stabber gives up and flees immediately, or take their own lives instantly upon encountering resistance from an armed civilian or law enforcement officer.

On May 16, 2025, a disgruntled gym member in Las Vegas NV showed up to the establishment with a rifle and began shooting indiscriminately at patrons and staff inside after a brief verbal confrontation at the customer service desk. The perp fired 24 shots, killing one employee and wounding a couple of other patrons before sirens and flashing lights of LVMPD cruisers arriving on scene prompted him to try to flee. As the shooter left the gym, he stared down a LVMPD officer straight in the face for about a second, at contact range. Instead of trying to shoot it out with the officer, the perp attempted to sprint away before the rifle armed officer fired several shots from his own AR-15, fatally striking the perp.

The video below shows the mentality that is behind almost 99% of terroristic mass killers: They are absolute minimal effort cowards who only seek out the softest and easiest targets for their rampages. Contrary to popular myth fueled by action movies, VERY FEW of these kinds of criminals continue fighting after encountering resistance. Only a few fanatical, religiously indoctrinated and trained paramilitary operatives of certain warlord junta armies like those seen in Africa or Southeast Asia would engage responding fire in a drawn out, movie style firefight. The vast majority of spree shooters and stabbers either immediately quit and tries running away, or take their own lives once somebody else returns fire against them.
