6.5 Creedmoor

Run a 28" barrel if you want free speed and better brass life? Why so many 24" creeds these days? PRS vs NRLH vs hunting, what's the intended use? Curious.

Most factory barrels are 24” and under unfortunately. If people are putting on a new barrel they may look at that as the way to go. I have run 28” since I started with the cartridge in 2008 and won’t go shorter personally.

Question on Brass. I picked up some Norma Brass for my new 6.5 Rig, Running 34.2 of Stabol 6.5 with the 147ELD Match. Virgin Brass is incredibly tight groups, I get 2860 from a 26 inch. I then FL resize the brass and the groups open up a lot. IS this indicative of Norma brass or of 6.5. The reason I ask, I have Alpha on my 6 Dasher and im on the 6th or 7 reload and not a change in group sizes. Any thoughts?

Army M24 Build Thread

Well never say never and as I have said it has been a long time since I was out at R19. That said I would ask what students are using the rifle/s? The guys from Group and the 75th traditionally bring their issued rifles (perhaps this has changed). Also this rifle is nothing like anything they have at home station or will use operationally so why would they train on it in SFSC? Is SFSC issuing one of these to every student?
The “SFSC M24” (for a lack of better terms) which was mentioned previously, was in fact an issued rifle at SFSC Level 1, cira 2013ish. Essentially it was a M24 dropped into customs AI chassis, feeding from a standard SA AICS magazine.

While some students might bring their own issued rifles, generally most used school house guns. Advantage to this being you are not putting heavy round counts on your team guns. Barrel changes at the Company level is always an ass pain and could mean being down on an SWS come deployment time. Additionally the old school method of having to spend copious amounts of time with a gun to collect “DOPE” is essentially unnecessary, you can zero and chronograph a gun in 10 to 20min and a single box of ammo. So, learn on house guns and go home ready to work with team guns. Makes traveling easier too.

Second big factor for these M24s was keeping a functional 7.62 bolt gun in inventory to teach on. Everyone knows learning to run a bolt gun is easier by some order of magnitude than a gas gun. The functional aspect being the adjustments provided by the AI stock (identical in functionality to the Mk13) which allowed students to fit guns. Anyone issued a M24 can appreciate this as a major shortcoming of the original M24 stock.

Lastly the 7.62 component of the equation. A fare numbered of ranges on Bragg are limited by SDZ. Meaning platforms such as the Mk13s and M2010s were not permitted.

I Spy New Baby Razor G3 4-24

Since there’s already 4 pages of “hopes & dreams” of what this will be, do we have any confirmed dimensions? Bell size, weight etc?
Thanks y’all.

You will get all that when they are ready to get on the market but the weight and power range being mentioned in this thread are right there. Other dimensions we will have to wait.

I Spy New Baby Razor G3 4-24

I'm patiently waiting for Vortex to drop a Baby Razor and updated Fury 5000+, they've earned my money.
I stripped my AMG threads on the illumination cap recently, which I admitted, and they paid for the return, the fix, shipping back in quick time, on an 8 yo discontinued scope, and threw some goofy swag.
The baby Razor is the only one pulling me away from buying another ZCO 4-20...

6.5 Creedmoor

I wasnt really looking for any specific velocity as I have no idea what right looks like for this bullet/cartridge combo, as I've never shot the 153's before. This was my first serious load work up in it. I just started a little before book max and began working up slowly like normal. I'm just wondering why I'm getting pressure signs of this size when I was a grain & a half at least below book max.
I shoot 153 ATips in my 28” with H4350 and get in the 2680fpa area.

Best Sub $750 optic for target and varmint - 2025

I think you'd be a fool to overlook Meopta. The optika 6 in 5-30×56mm is a spectacular scope. I've used mine to shoot prs matches, tracks perfectly, and the glass is spectacular. Nothing in that price range is going to be as good as the meopta (it's my opinion, and it's correct). I think they are about $1,100 new, but I've seen them used for $750-$800.

Vudoo closed the doors…

At this point, I'm excited to see what MB comes out with.

I'm also looking forward to DPG and L3I coming to market with their rimfires.

As for VGW, I won't go back. I have my 360 but I won't get another. And as much as I like my other Zermatt actions, I don't think a RimX is in my future either.
Thanks, LD, very much appreciated. The response below is written in response to many such comments that have been made to me privately and not necessarily a direct response to your public stance above.

I wasn't going to say anything else about this, as I felt enough has been said and we've learned more about tractors than I thought possible :ROFLMAO:, but after some prior remarks made over the weekend, I've received considerable outreach that has indicated that many, justifiably, are at a loss to understand the current dynamic.

While I won't speak about VGW the company, as I've made my position clear, many know that I'm supporting the rifles, which I refer to as V22s, for one reason. To not abandon this community. But part of the head scratching amongst many is due to a struggle to understand the glibness by which many in the community are speaking of the "closing of the doors."

Whether the remarks from the CEO at Three Sigma are being shared or the absence of a vendor that's in receipt of some amount of money without providing some level of comfort to those that paid it (and there are many other examples), there's a part of our community that is normalizing the bad behavior from companies that serve this community.

So why has this behavior become more common? Because there's enough in this community that allow it, and that forces those engaged in the behavior to think, "well, we got away with-it last time." It doesn't matter to me what side anyone is on, but if one has allowed the behavior, there's nothing to gripe about the next time it happens. "Normal" is defined by how the "standard" is treated. Demand a higher standard or take what they give you.
